Research note* Rachel's parents are uncertain. She may have been a sister of Thomas Culpepper since she was living near him in 1860 Norfolk. John Culpepper Jr., father of Thomas asked that his land be divided among "all his children" and so perhaps both Rachel and Thomas were living on their father's land. She was also living near George Washington Culpepper Jr. and wife Celia Ann Culpepper, and so might have been more closely related to his family. Living between Rachel and Thomas was Sylvester Moore, aka Sylvester Bond, who witnessed the will of Thomas Culpepper above, and who was the administrator of a John Culpepper who died in 1857, thought to have been Thomas' son.

The graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Culpepper family cemetery, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Roscoe A. Musselwhite. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling arrangements.4
