Biography* | | The following appeared on p. 3 of the Thursday, 18 Apr 1985 edition of The Herald in a column entitled "RAMBLING WITH BILL" edited by Bill Lowe: For Let (Reasonable): One Cabin Mr. and Mrs. Bob Boyd of Brazell Street have recently completed extensive renovations of a 150-year-old log cabin located at the corner of Brazell and Hwy. 29. The cabin was originally built about 150 years ago, in either Coweta or Meriwether County (the Boyds have not been able to find out exactly where). It was taken apart and then put back together at its present site in 1922 and/or 23 by Hugh Brazell. Brazell used the cabin as the office for his nursery (which was the other side of Brazell St.) and later married and lived in the cabin with his wife. The cabin stayed in the Brazell/Trimble family until the Boyds purchased the cabin from Mrs. Florence Trimble Jones (now of Macon) last year. The cabin has been completely modernized. It now features central heat and air, raised ceilings, modern kitchen, fireplaces, and much more. It was quite an effort to preserve an historically valuable house. Mr. Boyd commented that their interest in the cabin began with the fear that someone might buy the lot, tear down the cabin, and build something highly commercial at the corner, such as a gas station or a hamburger joint. The Boyds live across Brazell Street from the cabin. They didn't want their privacy invaded by such a retail establishment across the street. They now hope to find a suitable tenant, such as a doctor, lawyer, or small gift or antique shop, for the unique log cabin. "We want to rent to somebody that will do something good for Hogansville," Mr. Boyd commented. Boyd said that they would rent it at a "real good price" to the right tenant. I salute their efforts and I urge my readers to help Mr. and Mrs. Boyd find a suitable tenant. |
