Daniel served with his brother, Thomas J. Cooper, as third corporal (Mar 1862) in Company H, 59th Regiment GA Volunteer Infantry, during the Civil War.
A "Daniel S. Cooper" was received by certificate in 1882 by R. B. Bryan according to The Church Register of the Wesley Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church, South Colquitt County, Georgia by Lee Collins Hale, Nov 1978. He remained a member of the church until his death. Lee also noted that there was a Daniel Cooper who was a Tax Collector and Tax Receiver for Colquitt Co., GA from 1881-1889. It has not been verified that this was the same Daniel Cooper, but it seems likely. |

Biography* | | Elizabeth was known as "Bettie." Mrs. F. D. (Betty Lee Collins) Hale wrote in 19 Jan 1994 notes on a Cooper/Croft Family Group Record that in the 1900 census Elizabeth was listed as having been married 33 years and was the mother of four children, three of whom were still living. Walter, Laura, Augustus and Maggie were listed in the 1880 census. Laura has not been located in later records. Perhaps she died before the 1900 census. Unfortunately the 1890 U. S. census burned so it is difficult to follow the transition of the children. In the 1900 census, Elizabeth and Francis Marion Croft appear to have taken in their widowed daughter, Maggie, and her children. A widowed 66 year old Elizabeth was recorded (ED 35, Sheet 10) in the 1910 census in Colquitt Co, GA again with Maggie and her children plus the children of son, Thaddeus, and his wife, Melissa. Also in the house was Fred, the a son of another son, Augustus, by his first marriage. |
