Biography* | | Mrs. Harvey W. (Glenna Harris) Mauldin wrote 27 Feb 1985 that F. Earl Mauldin gave her and her husband "Grandpapa's pecan satchel." This was probably an affectionate family reference to F. Earl Mauldin's father who promoted the Pecan business. According to Mrs. Mauldin: [The satchel] contained a photograph album and some other papers. They also gave us the apothecary jar, or whatever you call it, that he carried paper shell pecans in on his sales trips. The glass has a slight lavender tinge. I made copies of the main pictures in the album.... In the state fair booth picture you will see a pecan satchel in center front and the tallest jars with pecans on the counter is the type we were given. |

Biography* | | From Colleen Morris, Feb 2004: "John Thomas Mauldin was born 29 January 1866 and raised on a cattle ranch in West Texas. He eloped with 16-year old Nannie Elizabeth Loving. They married in 1888 and operated a sizeable ranch out of Childress where Josephine Iris Mauldin was born 22 February 1898. I recall grandmother Nannie Elizabeth telling of one occasion when Indians raided their ranch for horses, she and Iris hid behind the woodshed door with her old single barrel 20-ga. shotgun until Indians went away. J.T. was the third son of John Bryant Mauldin and Matilda Culpepper Mauldin. Shortly after the turn of the century, health of his father (John Bryant Mauldin) began to fail. He sold his Childress ranch and moved the family and parents to Southerland Springs health resort. He found work laying track on the SAU&G railroad south of San Antonio. When his parents died, J.T. and wife moved to San Antonio."
Mrs. Harvey W. (Glenna Harris) Mauldin noted on the John Thomas Mauldin Family Group Sheet that Mrs. J. F. (Iris Mauldin) Andrews wrote that "her father [J. T. Mauldin] was active until age 95, eye sight and hearing were poor, but had the mind of a young man, was sick only a short time before his death."1 |

Biography* | | Mrs. Harvey W. (Glenna Harris) Mauldin noted the following on the Daniel Boone Mauldin Family Group Sheet: Uncle Boone was a beloved and jovial memeber of the family who livened up any gathering. His nephew, Earl, recalled that he [Boone] could go into a bar without a dollar in his pocket and, in five minutes, everyone in the place was laughing and buying him drinks. He enjoyed the family get-togethers with the many tubs of ice and beer. The men would stay up all night playing "42", a domino game. A town in Arizona was named for him [can't locate] when he had so many mexican nationals working for him that a post office had to be established. In later years he lived in Grants Pass, OR where he happened to have to go into a cemetery to drive out some stray cattle. He thought the cemetery was so beautiful that he told his wife he would like to be buried there. Aunt Elma was known for her well-groomed appearance at all times. She always looked "bandbox fresh" with her makeup and hair, even in her old age. |
