"Cookie." as she was affectionately known by all who knew and loved her, was a direct descendant of Texas pioneers and was a real Texas girl. She was horn to James and Lillie Bea (Crouch) McGinty in Alvin, TX. Her great-grandfather was James W. Winter, who with two brothers fought along side of Gen. Sam Houston at the Battle of San Jacinto.
It was James W. Winters who was responsible for placing various historical granite markers at certain spots on the San Jacinto Battlefield. He also donated several acres of land for the purpose of creating the Old Moulton Cemetery. where he now rests with many generations of relatives.
Cookie graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1945 and started working in the PX at Ft. Sam. She met and married Burl R. Willis 02-20-47 who preceded her in death. To this union were born James R. Willis. Sheryl D. (Willis) Lyles, and Steven J. Willis.
She is survived by her children and granddaughter Brandy D. Sims-Castillo. and great-granddaughter Tiana C.D. Haynes. She was preceded in death by Uncle V.B. and Aunt Penny Willis and her niece Jan Hight. Also left to celebrate her life are the remaining "Musketeers" and partners-in-crime, Audrey Gaddy and Joyce Rachal. Their children Kyle, Bat and Shane Rachal, Danny, Sean and Andira Hight. Jason Gaddy and Laura, Amy and Holly Bottom, several nieces and nephews, cousins and "family" members. Her two cats "Boots" and "Barney" also survive her.
In lieu of flowers. please make all donations to the Animal Humane Society in Cookie Willis' name.1
