(Daughter) 1930 Census1 April 1930 Mary, Rubie and Earline was listed as a daughter in James David Culpepper Jr.'s household on the 1930 Census at Pontotoc Co., Mississippi.1
Marriage*17 August 1941 She married John Calvin Russell on 17 August 1941 at age 19.
Married Name17 August 1941  As of 17 August 1941, her married name was Russell.
Death*24 December 1991 She died at Tupelo, Lee Co., Mississippi, on 24 December 1991 at age 69.
Burial* Her body was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Houlka, Chickasaw Co., Mississippi
Biography* Houlka Mississippi Journal, Dec 27, 1991, by Pat Hill
It is with sadness that I report the loss of my good neighbor, Mrs. Earline Russell. Mrs. Earline Isabell Culpepper Russell was born April 1, 1922 to James David Culpepper, Jr. and Beulah Bell Aston Culpepper in Pontotoc Co. She died December 24, 1991 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo at the age of 69. She was a retired employee of Indianapolis Glove Co in Houlka and a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. She had lived most of her life in Houlka. Her husband, the late Calvin Russell, preceeded her in
death by a little over 10 months. Mrs. Russell leaves two daughters, Mrs. Peggy Stepp and Mrs. Hazel Davidson of Houlka; two sons, Jerry Russell of Pontotoc and Johnny Russell of Houlka; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Collins of Shannon, Mrs. Ruby Gregory of Smithville, Mrs. Elsie Gregory of Bruce; three brothers, Mr. Milton Culpepper of Tupelo, Mr. Bob Culpepper of Okolona, and Mr. Bill Culpepper of Amory. She also leaves seven grandchildren and five great-grand children. Services for Mrs. Russell were held at 10:00 am at the
Houlka Funeral Home in Houlka. Officiating for the services were Rev. John Flippian, Rev. Junior Ritchie and Rev. Glenn Washington. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Witt Gregory, Rodney Culpepper, Kenneth Linton, Steve Culpepper, Robert Culpepper and Roger Warren. Houlka Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. In thinking about Mrs. Earline Russell, one thing stands out in my mind--she was always smiling. And I remember a little saying: "A smile is the light in the window of your face that tells people you're at home". That was certainly true of Mrs. Earline Russell. That smile kept her surrounded by her loved ones and friends. She greeted visitors at her door with a smile and one felt so warmly welcomed into her home. She was a good mother who loved her children and was loved in return. She lived her brothers and sisters and they, too, returned that love. Her brother Bob expressed what a good sister she had always been and he said, "She was always smiling". In this day and age when so many ungrateful children turn their backs on their elderly parents, it's a blessing to find a family like the Russell family who shared the happy times with their mother and also stayed by her bedside during her final days--a true testament of the kind of mother that Earline Russell was. My sympathy goes out to this family....their loss is great. Ane the community has lost a very worthwhile neighbor and friend. (Obit provided by Royce Culpepper.)
