Biography* Mrs. Charles (Margaret Whatley) Lee wrote 3 Feb 1979 that "Elizabeth lives in Ashland in her Daddy's home place. She never did marry." Elizabeth had a Bible published by A.J. Holman and Company in 1893 which contained the Bible records for the William Lawrence Gray and Edna Isabella Culpepper family. The following obituary notice is from an unknown source: Miss Ethel Elizabeth Dempsey, 59 Miss Ethel Elizabeth Dempsey. 59. a resident of Ashland, passed away Thursday, June 25, 1981 at her residence following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 28, 1981 at 2 p.m. from the Ashland First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Drinkwater officiating Burial followed in the Lineville City Cemetery with Brock Funeral Home directing. Survivors include her mother, Mrs Edna G. Dempsey of Ashland; one sister, Mrs. Edna G. Elrod of Marianna, Florida; and one nephew, Fred Elrod, Jr., of Atlanta, Georgia. Miss Dempsey was a native of Lineville and had lived all her life in Clay County. She was retired from the State of Alabama, Department of Pensions and Security. She was a member of the Ashland First Baptist Church. Active pallbearers were Alan Smith, Jim Shack Gay, Arthur Hardegree, Jr., Bob Wynn, DeForest Nolen. E.D. Riley, Jr., Leonard Brooks. Dr. C. P. Horn and Dr. George Beale. Funeral arrangements by Brock Funeral Home.
