Lee also preserved the following funeral notice from p. 2 of the Weekly Moultrie Observer for Thursday, 1 Nov 1979: Rites Held For Mr. Cooper Funeral services for Edgar W. Cooper, a resident of Route 6, Moultrie, were held Wednesday at the Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Brown officiating. Burial was at Wesley Chapel cemetery. Mr. Cooper died... Monday morning at his home. He was 55 years old. Pallbearers included J. E. Edwards, Dykes Smith, Roy Hiers, Max Herndon, Floyd Crosby, and Huey Hiers. Mr. Cooper was born on Aug. 11, 1924, in Colquitt County, the son of Cora Mae Burley Cooper and the late Bascom Cooper. He was a retired farmer and had lived in the county all his life. He was an Army veteran and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Survivors include his mother, who lives in Moultrie and a sister, Mrs. T. D. Williams of Norman Park. |

Funeral services were held Saturday at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Berlin, with burial in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. The Rev. Don Powers officiated. Pallbearers were James Alfred O'Kelley, Wilburn O'Kelley, J. W. O'Kelley, Charles Williams, Scottie Cooper, James Filyaw, Dykes Smith Jr., Emmett Edwards, Freddie Hunt, Joey West, Johnny Lipsey and Huey Hiers. Mrs. Williams was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Colquitt County to the late Willie Bascom Cooper and Cora Mae Burley Cooper. She was married to the late Thomas Dillard Williams and was a homemaker. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. |

(Betty Lee Collins) Hale and is from p. 2 of the Weekly Moultrie Observer 25 Oct 1979: Norman Thomas Funeral Held Funeral services for Norman Joel Thomas were held Sunday afternoon in Hopewell Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. J. E. Moak officiated and active pallbearers were Clifton Corley, Tommy Tompkins, Levi Wilcoxon, Herbert Bruce, Curtis Bynum and Ernest Hopper. Mr. Thomas died Friday morning in Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was 67 years of age. Mr. Thomas was born on June 7, 1912, in Gordon County, the son of the late William Lester Thomas and Alice Keen Thomas. He was a resident of 1166 3rd Street SE since 1929 and was a retired farm superintendent. He was a member of the Baptist denomination. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Norman Thomas of Moultrie; one daughter, Mrs. Dotti Bynum of Moultrie; one brother, Bryan Thomas of Route 2, Moultrie; one sister, Mrs. Faye Clark of Henager, Ala; and one grandchild, Ashley Joel Bynum. |
