The cemetery is located in Coopers community, Elm City, NC on the farm belonging to Blanche Joyner, my wife's great aunt. My wife's parent's farm borders Blanche's. It is in the back of a field surrounded by trees. If looking on a map it is about 1/8 mile from where NC hwy 58 crosses I- 95. There are some other Hunts in the cemetery... Littleton's gravestone had the southern cross on it Regiment # and CSA.

POMPANO BEACH, FL. - Lula Culpepper Thomas, 86, passed away quietly Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Born in Nash County on December 16, 1925, Lula was the second oldest daughter of the late Harvey A. Culpepper and Etta Hackney Culpepper. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Mable Parker Culpepper and brothers, Jackson Culpepper & Harvey A. Culpepper, Jr.. She was formerly married to the late V. W. "Pat' Thomas.
She is survived by her daughter, Marion Lowry of Fort Lauderdale, FL; granddaughters, Manya Morando, Kim (Michael) Picazio, Ginger Knop all of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Shannon Nagle of New York, NY; five great grandchildren, Sonny, Stella, and Sloan Picazio, and Mac and Savannah Clark.
Other family members left to cherish her memory include: brothers and sisters, Merle C. Taylor, Milton Culpepper, Sr. and wife Lucy, Dennis Culpepper and wife Brenda, and Jeanette Culpepper of Rocky Mount, NC; Vernon Culpepper and wife Alva, and Armerelous (Amie) C. Hunt of Raleigh, NC; John W. (Bill) Culpepper of Savannah, GA; Sheila C. Burnett of Spartanburg, SC; sister-in-law, Ann Culpepper of Cornelius, NC.
Lula enjoyed life and people... playing golf and tennis until her early 80's. She was involved with numerous volunteer organizations. She made it a priority to attend the Culpepper Family Reunion held each Thanksgiving in Rocky Mount and also visited Myrtle Beach, SC each April for an annual vacation with her siblings. She was lovingly known as 'Aunt LuLu' to many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held December 6, 2012 in Boca Raton, FL.⁴

     Vernon grew up in Rocky Mount. He graduated from Rocky Mount High School and later attended Mars Hill College and the University of North Carolina, where he obtained a Master's in Education degree. He taught 10 years at Williams High School in Burlington and then went to serve with the NC Teachers' Association as an education and teacher advocate. Vernon was always an advocate for peoples' rights and benefits and loved and served his church and church family. He was a generous man who lived a full and joyful life, who spread "donuts and joy." Vernon was a much loved and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. We shared ordinary and extraordinary blessings. Having shared his life for 59 plus years - "I can no other answer make than thanks and thanks and ever thanks."
     Vernon is survived by his wife: Alva Wallace Culpepper; son: Clay Culpepper (Diane) of Raleigh; daughter: Julie C. Harp (Glenn) of Cassatt, SC; grandchildren: Glenn Harp, Jr. (Danielle), Geremy Harp (T. K.) and Nicholas Culpepper; great-grandson: Dilon Harp; brothers: Milton C. Culpepper (Lucy) of Rocky Mount, John W. Culpepper (Robin) of Savannah, GA and Dennis W. Culpepper (Brenda) of Rocky Mount; sisters: Merle C. Taylor of Rocky Mount, Amie C. Hunt of Raleigh, Sheila C. Burnett of Spartanburg, SC and Jeanette Culpepper of Rocky Mount.
     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Harvey A. Culpepper, Jackson B. Culpepper and a sister: Lula C. Thomas.
     A service to celebrate Vernon's life will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 18, 2104 at New Hope Baptist Church, 4301 Louisburg Road, Raleigh, NC 27604.
