Obituary* | Doyle Shelton Culpepper, age 77, of Maud, TX, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, in a Texarkana hospital. Mr. Culpepper was born September 4, 1924, in Weaver, TX. He was retired from Red River Army Depot; a member of the First Baptist Church, Maud; a Mason and member of Maud Masonic Lodge #859; and a Navy Veteran of World War II. During his tenure in the U. S. Navy, January 25, 1943 to January 25, 1946, he served in the Amphibious Force. He was an operator for an LCM landing craft. He was involved in the battles at Normandy Beach Head (D-Day), Saipan and Okinawa. He was preceded in death by a son, Rodney D. Culpepper and a grandson, Shanon D. Humphrey. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Peterson Culpepper of Maud; 1 brother, and a sister-in-law, Joe and Ramona Culpepper of Redwater; a granddaughter, Cheryl Von Staden; and one special niece, DiAnn Bransford and her children, Haley and John Bransford of Redwater.3 |

She graduated from Avery High School and was retired from Red River Army Depot. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Maud where she taught Sunday school classes for many years. Mrs. Culpepper was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Culpepper, her son, Rodney Culpepper and her grandson, Shannon Humphrey. Survivors include; her granddaughter: Cheryl Rios; two great granddaughters: Sarah and Mary; two sisters and brothers-in-law: June and Mike Storey of Avery, Texas; Judy and Martin Peek of Avery Texas; one sister-in-law: Ramona Culpepper of Redwater, Texas; her nieces and nephews: Steven Storey and wife, Stephanie and their children: Jordan Storey and Will Storey of Corinth, Texas; Kevin Peek and wife, Stacey of Avery, Texas; Jamie Eilers and husband,Clint of Avery, Texas, and their son Justin Eilers, of Arlington, Texas; Lacy Peek of Avery, Texas; DiAnn Bransford and her children Haley Bransford and John Bransford of Redwater, Texas; and a number of other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services will be 3:00 P. M. Sunday at First Baptist Church Maud with Rev. Chuck Carr and Rev. Ronnie Pipes officiating. Burial will be in Redwater Cemetery under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home.1 |
