Biography* Over the years, Lavyn has painstakingly collected and generously shared material about the John Malcolm Culpepper family. In a 15 Apr 1994 letter, Lavyn noted that she had returned to teaching in Sulphur Springs, TX in 1980. She also noted that Texas celebrated its sesquicentennial in 1986:

That year most Texas counties published histories of their county. I submitted information on both volumes for Hopkins County.1

About that same time, I submitted materials on our Bradford family for Gibson County Tennessee.... I came across a friendship quilt which gave me an idea for a cousins quilt. This project was well received and we not only had a first cousin's quilt but a second generation quilt also. We auctioned the quilts and with the money received from the auction, we replaced the broken marker of Sarah Ann Elizabeth Stephens Culpepper at Pine Forest Cemetery, giving additional information on the marker for future generations. We also placed markers for this family members who did have one. I spent lots of time that year with shaving cream making sure I knew all family members were identified. I have a collection of monuments pictured in my file should they ever be needed.

In a 14 Jul 1994 letter, Lavyn wrote:

I feel fortunate to have been reared in a community of kinfolk. Cousins, Tessie (Tommie Smith's mother) Annie (Mattie's daughter) and Robbie (my mother) sat on the big front porch of our house and look at pictures and talk about family. 
Death*28 August 2015 She died at Sulphur Springs, Hopkins Co., Texas, on 28 August 2015 at age 78.
