BUT I find in Lavaca Co., TX 1860 census Margaret listed with the Wm. E. Guthrie family as age 27, spinster. Another place on the 1860 census of Lavaca County is H. H. Vick, wife Margaret age 27 KY and children named Silas R. ca 1853 TX, Mary A. ca 1854 TX, John E. ca 1856 TX, & Hinton ca 1858 TX. WHICH IS CORRECT?

Boy, it is a mess trying to sort out all of the children isn't it?

You had a question concerning: Margaret Guthrie, Female, #24315, (12
November 1833 - 7 March 1909)

The date on her Pilot Grove Tombstone is dated the same, and the 1860
US Census has her birth year as c. 1833.
It is curious to why she is listed as a spinster, unless she was
visiting the family when the census taker stopped by.
I often question how the enumerators would gather the info. Yes,
Margaret was a Guthrie. Maybe a sibling filled in for the
parents and rattled off names and ages without thinking to say, "Oh,
Margaret is married and just visiting."

At Pilot Grove is a stone for a child named Silas Vick. It was very
common for children to be named after an uncle.
All the families are interwoven like a grapevine in that cemetery. I
am tied to the someone who is a Goode, and she is
tied to the Vicks. I got the names from her, and she said Margaret
was one of Oren/Orin's children. But after looking at the
census, now I think she does belong to William E.

I've got a headache now! Ha.Just all the Williams is a mess to
straighten out. The most difficult part is not having records to
sort them before certain years.

If you haven't looked at the Lavaca Co. Tx Genealogy site, look at
Pilot Grove. We have had quite a few new graves since it
was transcribed, but you can see the Hintn Vick family.

I hope I have helped and not hurt your research. You have done a
great job. I am trying to research all the families there,
and I know what a job it can be!
