Henry David Culpepper

M, (February 1833 - 1908)
FatherHenry Culpepper of Lauderdale Co., MS (c 1795 - a 1870)
MotherNancy Martin (c 1805 - a 1850)
Extinct Surname?* The family branch headed by Henry David Culpepper is believed to have no living male descendants with the Culpepper surname. If you know otherwise, please contact Lew Griffin using the link at the bottom of this page.
Birth*February 1833 Henry was born at Georgia in February 1833.
1860 Census*1 June 1860 Henry was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census at Lauderdale Co., Mississippi.1
Civil War*between 1861 and 1865 He served in the War Between the States between 1861 and 1865

     Co. F, 46th MS Infantry.
Marriage*16 April 1863 He married Sarah M. (?) at Lauderdale Co., Mississippi, on 16 April 1863 at age 30.2
1870 Census*1 June 1870 Henry was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census at Lauderdale Co., Mississippi.3
1880 Census*1 June 1880 Henry was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census at Lauderdale Co., Mississippi.4
1900 Census*1 June 1900 Henry was listed as the head of a family on the 1900 Census at Hurricane Creek, Lauderdale Co., Mississippi.5
Death*1908 He died at Lauderdale Co., Mississippi, in 1908.
Research note*3 October 2004 From Bill Draper: You include Henry David (1833), but he is not listed in the 1850 census in Henry's household. What is his source?

From Lew Griffin: As for Henry David as a son of Henry, this is from a process of elimination. Unlike Henry, some of his brothers left wills or estates, which help with the process of elimination. Also, Henry (H. D.) was listed as a farm laborer in 1860, and he might well have been one in 1850 as well. After looking at many census records over the years, I feel that farm laborers, particularly young ones, were often excluded from census records. The census taker assumed they would be recorded at home, and yet they were not at home: so young farm workers not living at home were often missed in census records.

If you have records proving the ancestry of this Henry David Culpepper let us know.6
