Suffolk, Virginia, December 16, - Age 78, retired Ivor merchant, died here Monday, December 15, 1952 at 10:40 pm at the home of his son, ROBERT E. STEWART JR, 1021 Delaware Avenue, after a long illness. He was in mercantile business at Ivor for 25 years and retired 10 years ago. He was formerly employed by the John L. Roper Lumber Company at Gilmerton and the Shaw Land and Timber Company at Ivor. He was a member of Ivor Baptist Church, superintendent of its Sunday school and chairman of the Board of Deacons of the church. He was a son of the late SOLOMON and MARY DEFORD STEWART of Norfolk County. Besides his son, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. ETHEL HARRELL STEWART of Suffolk; 3 daughters, Mrs. ELSIE DIETY of Atlanta, Mrs. C. PEMBROKE PETTIT of Fredericks Hall and Mrs. W.S. BEAMON JR of Suffolk; a sister, Mrs. MINNIE CULPEPPER of Northwest and 6 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 18, 1952 at 2:00 pm at the Baker Funeral Home, by the Rev L.T. SAUNDERS JR of Cozart and the Rev J.S. ORRELL, pastor of the Ivor Baptist Church. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Members of the Board of Deacons of Ivor Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
