This is to inform you that my father's name was Marion Elton Culpepper, son of James Benjamin Culpepper of Texas. He was born in Big Spring, Texas, in 1908. He married my mother, Maurice Ernestine Dulin, in 1942. He was a career Army person, when, in 1943, he lost an eye while opening a box of grenades for his platoon in preparation for the Normandy invasion. He was medically discharged as a Top Sergeant. He was assigned to the 4th Army in San Antonio, Texas. He and my mother had three children. There is me: Joe Elton Culpepper, born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in 1943. My father was stationed there for a while. My two brothers are William Eugene Culpepper, born in 1946 in Trenton, NJ while my father was stationed at Fort Dix. My youngest brother, Wayne Lee Culpepper, was born in 1947 in San Antonio, Texas. My family settled there as Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio was my father's last duty station before being medically discharged.
He and my mother both worked for Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base, and then Brooks Air Force Base. They both retired from Civil Service. My father died in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 72.1 |

Obituary* | 18 October 2013 | Joe Elton Culpepper, age 70 of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013; He was born June 9, 1943 in Hattiesburg, MS to the late Marion and Maurice Culpepper. On June 5, 1982 in Seneca, SC Joe married his wife Ruth Culpepper (Treece). Joe loved softball, so much that he played until the age of 68. He was also a certified celebrant, a Navy veteran and a retired engineer. He is survived by his wife Ruth Culpepper; his children April Culpepper of Lisle, IL, Captain Casey Culpepper of Vacaville, CA and Parrish Culpepper of San Antonio, TX; one grandchild, Addison Culpepper; his brothers Wayne and Gene Culpepper; also survived by numerous friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister in law Josie Culpepper. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 3PM at the Avance Funeral Home and Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield 45014 with a visitation prior to service beginning at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Shared Harvest Food Bank, 5901 Dixie Hwy, Fairfield OH 45014. |
