He is survived by two sisters and a brother; Miss Grace PORTER and Mrs. Herschel JENKINS of Albany and J. C. PORTER of Tifton. Graveside services were held at Camp Ground Cemetery August 1, 1981 with George LAHOOD of Valdosta officiating.3

Obituary*5 December 2014 Mr. William "Melvin" Holleman age 89 of Smyrna, GA went to his eternal home peacefully at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain Wednesday, December 3, 2014. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, December 6th at Smyrna First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton 9:30 AM Monday, December 8th. He was a lifelong resident of Smyrna for his 89 years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He worked at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for years as a Circulation Manager. He retired from the VA as an Adjudicator. He graduated from Middle GA College in Cochran, GA where he met his wife Mary Ruth Culpepper and began a 70 year love story on Love St., where they built their only home and still reside. Melvin was an active loyal member of Smyrna First Baptist Church for over 50 years and has served as Chairman of the Deacons and was a member of the church choir. He was active in his community and volunteered at the Smyrna Museum for many years. He was voted "Mr. Smyrna" in both high school and later in the community. He was an avid fisherman. He left a "Christ-centered" legacy and has been the perfect Christian example for his family and friends. Surviving are: Wife of 70 years Mary Ruth Holleman, Daughters & Sons-in-law - Dianne & George Spears of Marietta and Charlotte & Charles Winkles of Marietta; Grandchildren Christie Blankenship and husband Bryan; and Joshua Winkles of Marietta, and great grandchild Meghan Blankenship; Aunt-Chris Hall and many nieces and nephews.2
