Biography* | Obituary: Pearl Graves Applebaum, 92, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2004, in Houston, Texas. She was born in Hohenwald, Tennessee on September 27, 1911, to Charlie and Isabel Graves, and raised in Arkansas. She was working in Wilson, Arkansas as a hairdresser when she married Joe Applebaum in 1942. The Applebaum family moved to Houston in 1955. Pearl opened two beauty salons in Spring Branch, which she successfully operated for 25 years. Pearl was a member of the Memorial Church of Christ for 25 years, and for the last 12 years was a member of the Katy Church of Christ. She was a faithful Christian woman who encouraged everyone who knew her. We will all continue to love and miss her. She is survived by her daughter Lana Jo Applebaum Culpepper, and son-in-law Jim Culpepper; also her daughter Pearl Anne Applebaum Stentz, and son-in-law, Dr. Michael Stentz. Her grandchildren are Joanna Culpepper Birchfield, married to Kevin Birchfield; Michael Pride; Benjamin Stentz, married to Julia Stentz; and Rachael Stentz-Baugher, married to Danny Baugher. Her great grandchildren are Michael's children, Noah and Jessamine Pearl; Benjamin's and Julia's children, Julius, Noah, Rachel, Michael; and Rachael's and Danny's son, Trevor. Pearl had five brothers who predeceased her. Her only sister, Ginny Graves, lives in Houston, and was dear to Pearl all her life. Pearl loved and appreciated her friend and caregiver of 10 plus years, Betty Bailey. The family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, in lieu of flowers. Jim Culpepper and H.A. Dobbs will direct our thoughts and prayers in a graveside services at Woodlawn Cemetery on Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Twelve Noon.2 |
