George Mason1
M, (say 1761 - before 1822)
Birth* | say 1761 | He was born say 1761. |
Marriage* | say 1785 | He married Elizabeth Douglas say 1785. |
Death* | before 1822 | He died before 1822. |
Biography* | | Belinda Smith wrote Warren Culpepper on 15 Nov 2004: "I am currently working on the Doulgas family history. Elizabeth Mason was daughter of John Douglas (this was established per his Will, deed gifts he gave her, and also her death announcement). I'm looking for something to prove that George Mason was her husband. I note that she and George witnessed several documents together, and that George Mason along with some of Elizabeth's brother-in-laws also witnessed documents together. Also, the Daniel Mobley that witness the will of Elizabeth Mason was her nephew (son of Rachel Ann & Cheeves). If George Mason is husband of Elizabeth - he is a legend himself and there is a writeup in the history of Edgefield on this man. I'm sharing this information with you in hopes that if you come across anything to document that George was husband that you would not mind sharing it with me."
Gary Young added on 26 Jul 2005: "I am a Mason researcher, but I have been interested in a George Mason of Prince William and Loudon counties in Virginia who migrated to SC settling in the Saluda River area that became Edgefield County. It is my opinion that George Mason did marry Elizabeth Douglas and I believe there is some deed of gift from John Douglass to his Mason grandchildren. My impression is that George had several daughters, but only one son named Benjamin Mason."2,1 |

Blaney Culpepper1
M, (circa 1864 - )
Birth* | circa 1864 | He was born circa 1864 at South Carolina.1 |
Biography* | | In the 1870 census, a 5 year old Blaney Culpepper was living with 60 year old Malvina Culpepper, the mother of the Blaney Culpepper who was born circa 1847. It is therefore assumed that young Blaney is Malvina's grandson, and may be the son of the elder Blaney. However, the elder Blaney appears in the 1870 census with no wife and a one year old son. More work is needed to sort these records out. |

Henry Alexander Culpepper
M, (circa 1810 - 17 March 1843)

Birth* | circa 1810 | He was born circa 1810 at Marion District, South Carolina. |
(free wh male 0-10) 1820 Census | 7 August 1820 | Henry was probably a free white male, age under 10, in Henry Culpepper of Marion SC's household, on the 1820 Census at Marion District, South Carolina. Unaccounted for is 1 male 0-10..1,2 |

1840 Census* | 1 June 1840 | Henry was listed as the head of a family on the 1840 Census on 1 June 1840 at Georgetown District, South Carolina.4 |
Death* | 17 March 1843 | He died at Georgetown District, South Carolina, on 17 March 1843.3 |
Probate* | 7 February 1844 | Probate action was taken on Henry's estate, with Mary Catherine Culpepper and Sarah C. Culpepper as heir(s) on 7 February 1844 at Georgetown District, South Carolina,
Sarah C. Culpepper vs. Mary C. Culpepper. Bill for Partition of Lands. Filed 7 Feb 1844. The oratrix Sarah C. CUlpepper shows that Henry A. Culpepper her late husband of the District of Georgetown died March 1843 intestate leaving the oratrix his widow and Mary Catherine Culpepper their daughter, a minor of tender years his only heirs and distributees at law. Henry A. Culpepper possessed as a tenenat in common with the oratrix a certain parcel of land on SW side of road leading from Marion Court House to Godfrey's Ferry in Marion District containing about 108 acres originally granted to John Cunningham which land was the property of the oratrix and her brother James S. McLean as heirs at law of their deceased mother. H. A. Culpepper died 17 Mar 1843. (#151)
Similarly on 19 Feb 1844, another Bill of Partiton was filed by Sarah vs. A. L. Scarborough and others, regarding a tract of land in Marion District, east side and adjoining Marion Village 298 acres. (#218.)3 |
Biography* | | Henry Alexander Culpepper is proven to be Henry Culpepper's son by the reference in the elder Henry's will of 1856 to his granddaughter Mary C. Culpepper (who is Henry Alexander's daughter).
The 1840 census shows H. A. Culpepper to own 208 slaves in Georgetown Distirct. This considerable wealth was apparently acquired through his marriage to Sarah C. McLean, who had inherited from her mother.
On 19 Jan 1842, Henry A. Culpepper & Sarah C. his wife and James McLean (her brother) recovered against Ed B. Wheeler the lands and damages so found and $46.14 for costs and charges. (Marion CCP, pp 122 & 124.)5,6 |
