M, (circa 1851 - )
Birth* | circa 1851 | He was born circa 1851 at Georgia.3,4 |
Marriage* | 3 February 1880 | He married Sophronia (?) at Muscogee Co., Georgia, on 3 February 1880.3 |

Research note* | 2012 | The names of the parents of the siblings William Commodore Culpepper, Josephine Culpepper, James D. Culpepper and Walter Culpepper, are unknown.2 |
Research note | 2012 | As established in the commentary for William Culpepper, the unidentified John F. Culpepper of Muscogee Co., GA is most likely a grandson of James I. J. Culpepper and his wife, William. Since he apparently doesn't appear in the 1850 or 1860 censuses, this unidentified Culpepper most likely was born after the June 1860 census and before 1864, since his oldest child was born in 1882. His father's death could have occurred in the Civil War during 1862-1864.
One of the sons of James I. J. and Martha was George Washington Culpepper. His children are of the right age such that one of them could be the unidentified Culpepper. But that seems unlikely since George and his wife Mary Ann have three known children born after their Jan 1859 marriage and before or shortly after George's Sep 1863 death in the war. Thus the unidentified Culpepper must not be a son of George and Mary Ann as they had no time for any other children.
Another son of James I. J. and Martha was John G. Culpepper. His first wife, Rhody, died during or after the birth of their child Martha in 1857. She is presumed to have died prior to the 1860 census which shows John living in a household with his daughter, Martha, along with his sister Virginia and their mother Martha. John appears to have married again circa 1866 and died circa 1867. However, as established above, the unidentified Culpepper most likely was born between 1860 and 1864, so he is not likely to be a son of John.
A third son of James I. J. and Martha was Nathan F. Culpepper. Nathan married Sarah Herren in Apr 1858 and their first child was an otherwise unidentified girl born circa Jan 1860. Their son, John Washington Culpepper, born 5 Feb 1861, is the right age to be the unidentified Culpepper, but John's children are well accounted for and only one name, Josephine, overlaps with the four children of the unidentified Culpepper. Thus, we conclude that the unidentified Culpepper must not be a son of Nathan F.
The only other son of James I. J. and Martha is William Culpepper. While William is not proven as a son, we conclude most likely that the unidentified Culpepper is the son of William.2 |
