Medie G. Gentry1,2
M, (circa 1894 - )
Birth* | circa 1894 | He was born circa 1894 at Mississippi.1 |
Marriage* | 4 February 1915 | He married Bertha S. Culpepper at Covington Co., Mississippi, on 4 February 1915. Bertha was only thirteen when she married. She was an orphan, lived with a relative, and her father had deeded her 160 acres before he disappeared from the county.
Bertha is found in 1920 living next door to Hamilton Cooper Rutland, Mary's father, and in 1930 her youngest son is named Matthew. I am thinking that she named a son after her father, after the death of H. C.3,2,1 |

After the two marriages noted on Culpepper Connections, there were two other marriages.
She was noted in Griffin, Georgia, City Directory, 1913 and in Columbus, Georgia, City Directory, 1914 as Annie Bullard. She wasin the 1920 census with two daughters, Katie and Georgia, and her husband,George William Bullard, who died in 1923.
Shethen married David L. Deese about 1925 and they lived in Chester, South Carolina per 1930 census, where David was born. Her daughters, Georgia Bullard and Katie Hand, were living with David and Annie.
She died of uterine cancer in the home of her daughter, Georgia Bullard Crenshaw in Chester, South Carolina. The death certificate says her mother's name was Katie Culpepper but that's probably because Katie raised her after her mother, Mary Pate's, death when Annie was two.4 |

Obituary* | say 25 March 1924 | The Pike County Journal March 28, 1924 Major Boggs Killed By Hunt Patton Mr. Major Boggs, a farmer about thirty-five years of age living on the farm of Mr. J.A. Wilson near Dunbar school, was killed last Friday night by Mr. Hunt Patton in an outhouse on the LeRoy Neely place near the Spalding county line. It seems these two gentlemen in company with Messrs. Jasper Coggin, Jim Glass, Jean Coggin, Will Allen and Will Taylor, were having a fish fry in the house where the killing occurred. Some kind of difficulty arose between Patton and Boggs the outcome of which was that Patton hit Boggs on the back of the head with a one by three inch of wood and killed him. The affair is most unfortunate and is deeply regretted by all. Mr. Boggs leaves a wife and five children. Mr. Patton was living with his mother at the old Patton home place. The deceased was buried Sunday at the Driver cemetery. Mr. Patton has not yet been arrested though the sheriff is making efforts to apprehend him. The Pike County Journal April 3, 1925 A Proclamation Whereas, official information has been received at this department that on March 21, 1924, in Pike county, Royal Hubbard Boggs was killed by Hunt Patton who has escaped and is now a fugitive from justice; and Whereas, the malignity of the crime and the promotion of justice require that said Hunt Patton be brought to trial for the offense with which he stands charged, it is therefore ORDERED, that the Secretary of State recored and issue a proclamation offering a reward of three hundred dollars for the apprehension and delivery of the said Hunt Patton to the Sheriff of Pike county, with evidence sufficient to convict. Clifford Walker, Governor. By the Governor: Myrtle White, Sec'y. Executive Dept.6 |
