Death* | 4 September 1976 | He died at Hazel Green, Madison Co., Alabama, on 4 September 1976 at age 89.1 |
Biography* | James Milton Jones, my father, was born in northeast Madison County near Hazel Green, Alabama on September 10, 1886. He was the first son of John David Jones and Alice Manerva Beard who were from the same area of Madison County. His siblings were Thomas, Clayton, Beamon, and Mary. He became an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church. While pastor at Mountain Home Presbyterian Church USA, in Franklin County Alabama, he met and married a young school teacher, Lucille Ezzell. She was born near Russellville in Franklin County to Thomas W. (Sam) Ezzell (b. 1849, d. 1932) and Sarah Jane Dempsey Ezzell (b. 1858, d. 1950). Lucille was the youngest of five children. Her siblings were Lenorah, Willie, Walter, and John F. While living in Belgreen, AL, their first daughter, Ruth was born. Soon after, they moved to Clifton, TN. The next move took them to Waynesboro in Wayne County, TN. They lived there for over twenty years and had three more daughters, Mildred, Nellie, and Grace. Lucille had given up public school teaching by then, but continued to teach in Sunday Schools and Bible Schools. My parents retired in 1944 and moved back to "the Home-place", a farm in Hazel Green, AL. They lived there until the time of their deaths. My father died September 4, 1976 at the age of 90. My mother died when she was 99 years old on October 10, 1996. I was the second daughter born in my family. When my parents left Tennessee, I was away at college. I met my husband James (Jim) A. Culpepper while attending the School of Nursing at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He was at home on leave from the Air Force. After my graduation, we were married. We drove to the Al-Can highway to Anchorage, Alaska, where we lived for the next two and a half years while Jim was with the Armed Forces Radio, SAC. After that we lived in Florida, Alabama, Ohio, Maine, and then back to Huntsville, AL. In Huntsville, Jim worked in TV photography and radio broadcasting. He had a fatal heart attack July 18, 1978. I worked at Huntsville Hospital and the UAH Medical Clinics until retirement in 1991. Our first two daughters, Karen and Katherine, were born in Orlando, Florida. Our third daughter, Carol Ann, was born in Presque Isle, Maine. Karen is married to Tim Hartselle. She teaches second grade at Madison Elementary School and is working on her Masters in Elementary Education. Tim is a paramedic for H.E.M.S.I ambulance service and for MedFlight. Katherine (Kathy) completed her Master's of Divinity at Princeton University. She is an ordained minister in The Presbyterian Church, USA. She is living on Lake Michigan where she operates The Culpepper Inn Bed & Breakfast. Carol Ann married John Neff, who is an Insurance Claims Specialist. They live in Orlando, Florida with their two children. Their daughter Wallis Ann, is three years old. Their son, James Robert, is nine months old. (Written circa 1998 by Mildred Culpepper.)1 |
