Born in New Bern on August 20, 1920, the daughter of Charles Edward and Maggie Morning Wilhalf, Sarah moved to the Oak Level community after marrying her husband in 1942. An active member of the Oak Level Baptist Church for over sixty years, and an honorary member of the Oak Level Ruritan Club, her presence in the community will be missed. Loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sarah leaves behind her a son, William H. Culpepper Jr. and wife, Brenda of Carmel, IN; daughter, Donna Culpepper Tilley of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, William H. Culpepper III and wife Krispen of Carmel, IN, Jeffrey Scott Culpepper of Lebanon, IN, Sara Lynn Fourr and husband Brian of Frederick, MD, James McDonald Tilley II of Boone, and Adolphus Linwood Tilley IV of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Meridian Gray Culpepper, Morgan Abigail Culpepper and William H. Culpepper IV, all of Carmel, IN, Benjamin Speed Fourr and Morgan Grey Fourr, all of Frederick, MD; and sister, Minnie Virginia Wilhalf Munden. Friends and relatives will be received by the family from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Culpepper in the Woodlief chapel at 11:00 am Wednesday morning, Dr. George Shore, Rev. Horace Ward, and Rev. Kip Vinson officiating. Burial will follow at the Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Her family expresses their sincere gratitude for the outpouring of love shown to Mrs. Culpepper from all her friends in the community and church; the cards, prayers and visits were greatly appreciated. The family sends special thanks to the caregivers from Friends of Hospice of Nash General for their care and support.
