Obituary* | say 26 February 2011 | Dr. Mike Kerrigan passed away after a courageous battle with Cancer early Friday morning February 25, 2011 at the age of 71. Dr. Kerrigan was born in Detroit Michigan on November 5, 1939. Dr. Kerrigan attended Wayne State University in Detroit where he completed his PhD in anatomy in 1968. He spent his life continuing his education through research in every aspect of his career. Dr. Kerrigan had a passion for teaching. He taught at various colleges and universities around the country including: Louisiana State University, Nova University, Troy State University and also Pensacola Junior College. He spent the last 26 years perfecting his extraordinary talent creating medical trial exhibits for the law firm Kerrigan, Estess, Rankin, McLeod and Thompson. Dr. Kerrigan revolutionized the practice of personal injury law, participating in some of the largest civil verdicts in the history of American jurisprudence. Dr. Kerrigan will be most remembered as a cherished husband, loving father and grandfather, incredible brother and uncle, confidant, advice guru, carpenter, mechanic, computer technician, historian, weapons expert, sailboat captain, fishing partner and friend. Throughout his life Mike endured many medical illnesses beginning at age 38. He always fought each battle with courage and perseverance and outlived the expectations of multiple medical professionals. Mike stood as testament that with the right focus and determination you can overcome anything to live and pursue your dreams. He will be dearly missed by all. He was preceded in death by both of his parents Robert Wedge and Florence Louise Kerrigan. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara Lorine Kerrigan of Milton, children James Michael Kerrigan, Jr. (Janine) of Allentown, FL, Lori Finch (John) of Newport News, Va and Lynnie Hannel (Eric) of Milton, grandchildren include Chelsea Finch, Maria Kerrigan-Haupt, Logan Kerrigan, Mitchell Finch and Hannah Jones, beloved brother and sister Robert and Patricia Kerrigan both of Pensacola, multiple cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial service honoring Dr. Kerrigan will be held at the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel, Pace Chapel on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 10:00 am.3 |
