Barrett Mitchell Culpepper (b abt. 1998). William and Tracy Culpepper were blessed with an angel, Barrett Mitchell Culpepper, who went to heaven to be with the Lord on 7 May 1998. Along with his parents, he is also survived by a brother, Brenen R. Culpepper; grandparents, Betty Culpepper, Gordon Culpepper, Willis Mitchell Carraway, Linda Carraway, Margaret Davenport; great-grandparents, William Vaughan, Mary Vaughan, Faye Culpepper, Mary Carraway and Helen Clark. He also had numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, who loved him very much.¹

Clara Leigh Culpepper, 87, formerly of Shore Drive, died Saturday, June 9, 2001 in a Chesapeake nursing home.
     A native of Johnson County, N.C., she was the widow of Russell S. Culpepper and had worked for The Famous in Portsmouth. Mrs. Culpepper was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church, Beazley Senior Center and was a volunteer at Maryview Medical Center.
     Survivors include one daughter, Frankie Lucado Redmon and husband David of Chesapeake; three sisters, Grace Lassiter of Chesapeake, Clyde Powell of Emporia and Hilda Wade of LaGrange, N.C; three grandchildren, Robynne Redmon, David Michael Redmon Jr. and Autumn Redmon; and one great-grandson, David Michael Redmon III.
     A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Pinecrest Baptist Church by the Rev. Tom Potter. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.¹

Florence C. Culpepper, 84, a former of resident of Suffolk, died 4 Apr 1990, in a retirement home. Mrs. Culpepper, a native of Ottumwa, Iowa, had retired as secretary to the Clerk, Nansemond County Clerk's Office in 1971. She was the widow of Edward Rawles Culpepper (probably #503, b 7 Jul 1896, d Nov 1967) and a member of Suffolk Christian Church. Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis C. Welliver of Richmond; two sons, Edward R. Culpepper Jr. of Altamont, N.Y., and Charles R. Culpepper of Suffolk; a sister, Alice C. Murray of Keokuk, Iowa; a brother, Paul D. Carlson of Ottumwa; and eight grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Suffolk, by the Rev. Robert B. Marr. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. Friends may join the family from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home and other times at 2936 Old Wharf Road, Suffolk. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Disease & Related Disorders Association, P.O. Box 2794, Norfolk, Va. 23501.¹
