The Roller Family John (Johann) Roller was born in Germany about 1728-30. He first married Anna Ocher (Ocker, Acker). She died circa 1787. He married again on the 12th of January, 1788 Catherine Dosserin. John had 11 children by his first wife Anna and 6 by his second wife Catherine. The children by Anna were as follows: 1. Jacob; 2. Casper; 3. Catherine; 4. Mary; 5. John; 6. Barbara; 7. Rachael and 8. Lea were twins; 9. Paul and 10. Andrew were twins; 11. Infant unknown. The children by Catherine were as follows: 1. George; 2. Margaretha; 3. Sarah; 4. Michael; 5 David; 6. Peter. In a county history, "Annals of Orange County", there was an article on county court papers that listed John Roller's Last Will as such: Paper endorsed: John Roller's Last Will, A copy. I John Roller, of the County of Shenandoah. Some of children of very tender age. All real estate to be sold by executors and proceeds divided between all the children, Viz: Jacob, Casper, Catherine Roller, Mary ?, John, Barbara, Rachael, Paul, Andrew, George, Margaret, Sarah, Michael, David, Peter. All to share alike, except my son Paul Roller, whose share is to be $200 less than any of his brothers or sisters. This deduction I make from his share in consequence of his disobedience to me and --- of before he come of age and taking up with a woman of profligate character. Sons to be put to learn trades. Executors: Casper Roller and Andrew Zirkle Jr. Dated 7 June, 1806. (Signed in German) Test: John Crondson, James Anderson, Jane Allen, James Allen. Proved in Rockingham County, April Court, 1816 by Anderson; and in June, 1816 by Crondson. Executors refused to execute, Widow refused to administer. Administration granted George Roller. Test: S. McWilliams, clerk. Test: H. G. Gambil, C.R.C. A copy. John and Anna Roller's son, Jacob, was born circa 1763. In an 1850 census of Scott County, Virginia, he was listed as 87 years of age. He died circa 1860. He married Eve Zirkle, daughter of Lewis Zirkle and Mary Magdalena Rouse. She was born in 1773 in New Market, Shenandoah County, Virginia. Their children were as follows: 1. Jacob Roller Jr. married Sarah Anderson; 2. Sarah Roller married Rial V. Lawson; 3. Elias Roller married Elizabeth Payne; 4. George W. Roller married Lela Powers; 5. Mary Ruth Roller married George Carter; 6. Magdalena Maria Roller; 7. John Roller; 8. Eleanor Roller married J. Archibald Forgey; 9. Ann Roller married Andrew Forgey. Jacob Roller Jr., son of Jacob Roller and Eve Zirkle, was born in 1799 in Lee County, Virginia. He married Sarah (Sally) Anderson in Scott County, Virginia about 1850. They had 8 children: 1. Eli Roller married Ludema Fallin; 2. Mary "Polly" Roller married Ira E. England; 3. Elias Roller married Rebecca Robinett (my ancestors); 4. Elijah Roller married Mary ? ; 5. Rochinda Roller married John H. Horton; 6. Eletha Roller married John W. Mooney; 7. Elizabeth Roller married John R. Reed; 8. Eve Roller married William R. Gray. Elias Roller born 1826 in Scott County, Virginia married Rebecca Robinett who was born in 1831 also in Scott County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Zachariah Robinett and Elizabeth Fletcher. They had 9 children: 1. Martha Roller married Jasper N. Holland; 2. Annie R. Roller married ? Mooney; 3. William R. Roller never married; 4. Lydia Roller married ? Tillman; 5. Elizabeth Roller married ? Mooney; 6. John Wesley Roller married Mary Forgey; 7. Ellen Roller married ? Reed; 8. Eletha Roller; 9. Ira Roller. They came to Christian County, Missouri about 1854. There was Jacob Roller Jr. and his family, plus their son Elias Roller and his wife Rebecca Robinett. My great grandmother, Martha Roller Holland was only 4 years old when they came here. There was supposedly several other families that came with them. Possibly some Bloomers, Forgeys and Paynes. Actually, our Roller family was not the only Rollers who came to Missouri. In fact, one group came several years before our family and yet another came several years later. In the "History of Green County Missouri, 1882", published by Western Historical Company, states the following: John Briscoe, with his son-in-laws, Jacob and Andrew Roller, arrived from Tennessee in 1831 or 1832 (Christian County was then Green County), and settled in the south part of the County. The Rollers and Briscoes left in a few years. In the 1833 Tax list of Green County, Missouri completed 8 July, 1833, Andrew Roher (Roller) and Jacob Roher (Roller) were listed. They left Missouri sometime after 1833 and went into Arkansas. They were listed in the 1840 census of Benton County, Arkansas. When the Civil War ended, a third group of Rollers came to Missouri from Scott County, Virginia. Phillip and William Roller, cousins of our Roller family, were grandsons of Casper Roller and Elizabeth Bowman. Casper Roller was a brother to my 4th great grandfather, Jacob Roller Sr. Phillip and William along with their two sisters and their husbands, who were Gincy Ann Roller and her husband Ira Lawson and Emaline Roller and her husband Daniel Bloomer, came in wagons loaded down with all their household possessions. The Lawsons and Bloomer families settled in Christian County, Missouri. The Roller brothers chose to move a few miles south in search of a place more suited to their liking. They settled in an area in Taney County, Missouri about 4 miles west of Bradleyville, Missouri. It is known now as "Roller Holler", named after the two brothers, Phillip and William. My 2nd great grandfather Elias Roller and wife Rebecca (Robinett) Roller, settled in Christian County, Missouri on land laying between Rogersville and Sparta, Missouri where the old Roller Cemetery is now located. Elias Rooler and his wife Elizabeth (Payne) Roller owned the land and farm where the old Roller Cemetery is located. This information was given to me by Mrs. George Wesley Roller of Sparta, MIssouri. Her husband was a brother to my great grandmother Martha (Roller) Holland. John Wesley Roller and Mary Forgey's children were: 1. Guy Roller; 2. Mary Roller married a Smith; 3. George W. Roller married Mabel ? of Sparta, Missouri; 4. Jamie Roller of Sparta, Missouri. Mrs Mabel Roller writes; They have all passed away now, except for Jamie who still lives in Sparta, and are all buried in the old Roller Cemetery north of Sparta, near Rogersville, Missouri. Mrs. Linda (Gray) Porter of Rural Route 1, Rogersville, Missouri has also given me lots of help on researching the Roller family. She is the daughter of Mr. Noel Gray, son of Mrs Maggie (Holland) Gray, a younger sister of my grandmother Mary Ann (Holland) Boyd. 1860 census of Christian County, Missouri Elias Roller - 32 Eli Roller - 38
Elijah Roller - 30 This Elias, Eli and Elijah Roller were brothers and sons of Jacob Roller Jr.
Jacob Roller Jr. - 62 Elias Roller - 50
Enock Roller - 24 This Jacob and Elias Roller were brothers. This Enock Roller was son of Elias Roller and Elizabeth (Payne) Roller. Mrs. Mabel Harp of Wagoner, Oklahoma has given me more help than anyone on the Roller family. She is descended from Elias and ELizabeth Payne Roller (her 2nd great grandparents), and Enoch and Margaret Johnson Roller (her great grandparents). They all left Christian County and moved over into Douglas County, Missouri where they lived out their lives and are all buried there near their old home place. From a paper sent to me by Mrs. Mabel Harp, evidently from the office of the Recorder of
Deeds, states the following: From the Court House Scott County, Virginia.
