Hello,

Thank you for visiting the Johannes Hahn Family History site. I hope you will find what you are looking for.

For those with questions about these pages, perhaps the following will help:

Probably the first on the list should be confusion about why Hahn turned to Hawn and Honn and Haun, et al. There is really no good explanation, except that when Johannes arrived in Philadelphia on the Janet in 1751, his name on the passenger manifest was Hahn. However it could have been Gahn, as the German "H" looks much like an English "G". Some in the family later spelled it Hawn, or it could have been the census-taker, who also spelled our name Hone, Hahne, Haun and perhaps others. Johan Jacob Hahn born in 1747 had a number of children, some of whom later moved to Indiana and spelled their name Honn. But there are also Hawns in Indiana. Most of our family in Missouri are Hahns. Other states are a mixture.

Here are a few more:

--If it isnt in these pages, I dont know it. However I love to know if you like my work and whether it helped you on your genealogy quest.

-- If you absolutely have to ask something, you MUST provide name, dates of birth and/or marriage and/or death, and preferably city and state.. These are the building blocks of genealogy. To say Im looking for information about my father (grandfather, etc.) is not helpful. Within the Hahn/Hawn/Honn family there are many duplicated names so the additional information will help me sort out the object of your question.

-- This work is named Johannes Hahn Family History for a reason. Female Hahn lines are not continued, only male. I know, its sexist, but Im trying to trace the Hahn name, not the Sigmon, Abernethy or any other surname who might have married a female Hahn.

-- Except for a few stray instances, the people in this work lived in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Beginning in the 20th century, some of the descendants might still be alive and would not want their names spread over the Internet. Some are adamant about their privacy so this is an effort to protect them.

-- I appreciate all letters, even those seeking information. I'll answer, even if only to say I don't know. If I can help, I will. But see #1.
