LINCOLN COUNTY COURTHOUSE

Early view
The courthouse, made of native limestone, was opened in 1900. After more than a century, it is still one of the most beautiful courthouses in Kansas. This photo was taken circa 1907.

Lincoln County Veterans Memorial
Erected in 1999, the memorial includes the names of Lincoln County residents killed in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Cold War. For a list of those named on the monument, click here.

Indian Raid Monument
The monument was dedicated in 1909 to the 15 people who lost their lives in the 1864 and 1869 Indian raids. For more on the Indian raids, click here.

Memorial for Union Soldiers and Sailors
This statue of a Union soldier stands on the southeast lawn of the courthouse, near the cannon mentioned below. It says "In Memory of the Union Soldiers and Sailors, 1861-1865." Many of the settlers of Lincoln County were Civil War veterans; most served in the Union army but a handful were Confederates.

Civil War cannon
This is a lousy photo of the cannon but I'll try to substitute a better one later. The Union soldier's shadow is falling across it.
