Welcome to my space. This is where I am going to collect information about my family. This journey back in time has been fascinating. I am discovering some of the sources of my interests and passions. My love of music, my delight in singing; my creativity with the needle, the pencil and the brush! So much has come through from the past.
Learning history is part of this journey too. As I trace my French roots back, I discover new things about the history of my adoptive country. For example to Revolutionary calendar that tried to get away from all things religious! Names of the months followed the seasons, so one ancestor was born in 'Thermidor 2' This was the hot season - so July and August. 2 represented the second year of this calendar.
When people ask me what my nationality is I find it very hard to be precise. With roots in France, England and Germany, Poland and Holland it is far simpler to say I am European in the fullest sense of the word. Born of a French Father and a Geman mother I grew up in a truly european home enjoying French and German food; Hearing the languages throughout childhood - so now I am tri-lingual - well sort of! My parents' dream eventually realised. So what next? I live in France now, will I become a French citizen ? Perhaps. Certainly immigration and migration has been a family trait. Time will tell.
I hope you enjoy journeying with me.
