  1. THOMAS4 BLACKSHAW (WILLIAM3, ROBERT2, JOHN1 BLACKSHAW) was born 1581, in Parish of Prestbury, Adlington, England. He was the son of WILLIAM BLACKSHAW and MAUDE BENNETT. He later lived in Chestshire. He married (1) MARGARETT SALISBURY, daughter to THOMAS SALISBURY, of Flint, relict of Massey of Audton. They had no children. He married (2) SARA DAVENPORT of Prestbury, the daughter of THOMAS DAVENPORT (b. 1527) of Butley, descendant from Henbury. She was born about 1585.

Children of THOMAS BLACKSHAW and SARA DAVENPORT are:

  1. MARY BLACKSHAW, b. 1607.
  2. JOHN5 BLACKSHAW , b. August 5, 1608; m. MAUDE BARLOWE

  1. JOHN5 BLACKSHAW (THOMAS4, WILLIAM3, ROBERT2, JOHN1 BLACKSHAW) was born June 18, 1608, in Adlington, in the Parish of Presbury, England. He was christened on August 5, 1608. He was the son of THOMAS BLACKSHEAR and SARA DAVENPORT. He married MAUDE BARLOWE, born ABT 1608 in Cheshire, England.

Children of JOHN BLACKSHAW and MAUDE BARLOWE are:
  1. THOMAS6 BLACKSHAW, b. September 25, 1631, Piscataway, Middlesex, New Jersey; d. bef 1723, Woodbridge, New Jersey.

Wife, ELLINOR ...?.... was born about 1659 in Woodbridge, NJ an died in Woodbridge before 1750.

  • 1663, land (WOODBRIDGE AND PISCATAWAY) first purchased from Indians by John Bailey, Daniel Denton, Luke Watson, and others, who obtained patent in 1664 from Gov. Nichols, who acted under the Duke of York. The names of the first settlers on record are: the Gillmans in 1663, the Blackshaws, Drakes, Hands, and Hendricks in 1677, others in the following decade. It is supposed that most of these were Baptists (but the Blackshaws are not mentioned as Exhorters or Organizers of any Baptists Church).
    Vol. 2, p. 175, Monnette quotes Barber pp. 322-3. Vol. 3. p. 402, mentions NY Gen. and Biographical Record Vol. XLII (1906) pp. 109 etc. Includes reference to Thomas Jenner's will and Sam'l and Rachel Blackshaw, which see. Vol. 3 p. 361, mentions Randall Blackshaw as one of the JERSEYMEN who wandered up and down the Falls of the DE. No date given. (Randall was a much used name, this one probably the son of Robert, which see) Vol. 6 p. 1155 Thomas listed in Deed Record Indices, "Recordal Significance", 70 names appear after Thomas Blackshaw's.
  • 1664 and later "The Ship 'Phillip' in which the Governor (Carteret) had come from England, returned thither in about 6 months, and the next year brought out more people and goods on account of the Proprietaries; and other vessels similarly laden, followed from time to time."
