CORMIER, LAURA LEE
CORMIER, Laura Lee - 88, Pictou, died November 12, 1997, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Pictou, she was the daughter of the late James Lee and Mary Jane (Landry) MacNeill. She was a lifelong member of Stella Maris Parish,
Pictou. She worked at the Pictou Advocate and served on the executives of the Shire Figure Skating Club and auxiliary of the Pictou Fire Department. Throughout her lifetime, she excelled in needle arts, especially knitting and embroidery. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by daughter, Margo (Mrs. Joseph Hawes), Pictou, and granddaughters, Sandi-Lee and Christine. She was predeceased by her husband, A.J. (Paddy) Cormier. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Stella Maris Roman

CAMPBELL, Leonard Charles - 84, Halifax, died July 21, 1994, in Veterans Memorial Building, Camp Hill Medical Centre. Born in L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Martin and Justine (Boucher) Campbell. He served in the Canadian Army from 1942-45. He was a former longshoreman for over 35 years. He is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Stan (Butch) Adams), Lower Sackville; Betty (Mrs. Walter Casson), Halifax; Diane (Mrs. George Leadley), L'Ardoise; brother, Felix, L'Ardoise; two sisters, Dora (Mrs. Fabian Landry), Peterborough, Ont.; Theresa (Mrs. Cyril Myatt), Dartmouth and Florida; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his companion, Cecelia Pello. BENJAMIN COIFFIE (as spelled in the clipping)

The death occurred early this morning at his residence, 317 Esplanade of Benjamin Coiffie, a resident of this city for the past 35 years.  He was born in St. Pierre, Miquelon, fished out of Gloucester, Mass. for years and came to Sydney (Nova Scotia) where he took up permanent residence.  His wife predeceased him several years ago and he is survived by six sons:  Benny, Joe and George in Ontario; Dan in Montreal, Richard and Alex at home; three daughters; Mrs. Charles Warner (Mary) in Sydney; Mrs. Lloyd Staples (Theresa) in B.C.; Mrs. Leonard Wyatt (Elizabeth), in Los Angeles.  Four brothers, Paul in Sydney, Peter in d"Escousse; Amos in Boston; Joe in France.  Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

William Cordeau- June 21, 1961
William Cordeau, 95, a native of River Bourgeois, Cape Breton, died Monday at the home of his  niece, Mrs. Octave Chaisson, 8 Niven Avenve, Tufts Cove, Dartmouth. Mr Cordeau was the son of the late Leslien and Elizabeth Cordeau and
worked as a fisherman all his life from River Bourgeois. His wife the former Celeste Sampson, died many years ago and besides his niece he is survived by his nephew, Basil Sampson, at River Bourgeois. The body rested at Walker's Funeral
Home, Halifax, until Tuesday when it was taken to Mr. Sampson's home, at River Bourgeois. The funeral wil be conducted today at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Father Samson at St. John the Baptist Church.

Leo A. Coffie, 52, of 195 Charlotte Street died early yesterday morning in City of Sydney Hospital after a long illness.  A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Coffie, he was born in Sydney.  He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas with the Cape Highlanders for four years.  Mr. Coffie is survived by three brothers Gus, Sydney; Bill and Peter, Quebec and two sisters, (Mabel) Mrs. Howard Redmond, and Mrs. Lillian MacLellan, with whom he resided, both in Sydney.  His body rests at T.W. Curry's Downtown Chapel, 390 George Street.  Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Church and interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetary.

Elmer Coffie, 60, Aylmer, P.Q. died October 9.  Born in Sydney, he was the son of the later Peter and Anna (Joyce) Coffie.  He is survived by his wife, Angela, two sons, two daughters and four grandchildren, all in Aylmer; two sisters:  Mabel (Mrs. Howard Redmond) and Lillian MacLellan, both of Sydney.  He was predeceased by three brothers:  Gus, Leo and Wilfred.  Cremation took place.

M. Thelma Campbell, 64, Sydney, died November 3, 1995, at home in Sydney.  Born in Whiteside, Richmond Co., she was a daughter of the late Duncan A. and Mary Margaret (Cameron) White.  Trained as a nurse, she graduated from St. Martha’s Hospital in 1953.  She worked at St. Rita’s Hospital, as well as hospitals in the Boston area prior to being married.  She was very involved in St. Joseph’s Church Parish activities where she was president of the Catholic Women’s League and a eucharistic minister.  Volunteer work was a part of her life in many facets including Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, and Cape Breton Right to Life.  Surviving are her husband, John Colin; daughters, Clare (Mrs. Gordon H. We were blessed to have such a wonderful mother, friend and sister for 68 years. She surrounded us with an atmosphere of love and caring. She volunteered and dedicated her time to many community events. CAMPBELL, Felix Bernard - 92, died July 4, 2000, in Strait Richmond Hospital, after a brief  illness. Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Martin and Justina (Boucher) Campbell. He worked for many years in the Halifax area and retired after 33 years service with Nova Scotia Light and Power in 1972. On retiring he moved back to the family home in L'Ardoise with his first wife Mary (James) who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his second wife Agnes (Mombourquette) Deveau; an infant son of his first marriage, Joseph; sisters, Cecelia, Bertha, Minnie and Dora; brothers, Lawrence, Henry, Cornelius, Leonard and James. CONRAD, Derek Graham - 28, Cole Harbour, passed away Monday, March 26, 2001, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Graham Conrad and the late Diane (Evong) Conrad. He is survived by brothers, David
and Craig; grandfather, Finley Evong; many wonderful and supportive aunts, especially Dawn, Gloria, Barbara Anne and Marlene; as well as numerous uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Melinda (Sampson) Evong and paternal grandparents, Ray and Lillian (Adams) Conrad. He enjoyed all sports and played minor and high school hockey in Cole Harbour. He graduated from Cole Harbour High School and went on to attain a Bachelor of Commerce degree from St. Mary's University. He was a certified St. John Ambulance instructor and at the time, was enrolled at Edison
College studying nutritional consulting. He will be greatly missed by family and friends, especially his kindness, smile and love for life. He served in the Merchant Navy, then in Customs for 37 years until he retired in July 1982. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 110 and L'Ardoise Men's Club. He was one of the founding members and first fire chief of L'Ardoise Volunteer Fire Department. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Helen (Barrett); sons, Francis and Charlie in infancy. Sydney Mines – Stanley Perry Cordeau, 58, of 44 Convent Street, Sydney Mines, died Thursday in Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.  Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of Emma (Fortune) and the late Jean Pierre Cordeau.  A lifelong resident of Sydney Mines, he was a member of Immaculate Conception parish.  He was a navy veteran of the Second World War and a former employee of Seaview Golf Club, North Sydney.  Surviving are seven sisters, Mary (Mrs. Arthur Crane), Chateauguay, Que.; Theresa (Mrs. Elmer Doiron), St. Peter’s; Sister Geraldine, CND, and Sister Agnes, CND, both of Holy Angels Convent, Sydney; Sister Anna, CND, Innisfail, Alta.; Detta (Mrs. Ted Haley), Sydney Mines, and Betty, at home: five brothers, Daniel, Montreal; Francis, Dartmouth; Joseph, Sydney Mines; Rev. Leo, Vermillion, Alta., and Charles, Belleville, Ont.  He was predeceased by a brother John.  The body will be in George R. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Johnstown. Dannie was a very sociable man who had a great love for Scottish music, Gaelic singing and fishing from his
loved boat in Bras D'Or Lakes. She was involved in many charitable organizations. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Loretta MacDonald, Poirierville; Mrs. Marie MacDonald, Stellarton; a son, Raymond Victor, Kingston, Ont.; three sisters, Mary Bella (Mrs. Joseph Bonna), Mrs. Margaret Ann Bona, both of Poirierville; Mrs. Ada O'Neil, Halifax; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband, Victor E.; a son, Nicholos; four brothers, Wilfred, Joseph, Martin, Cornelius; two sisters, Carolyn, Armenia. The funeral was held June 2 in St. Hyacinth Church, with burial in the parish cemetery

Born in Grand Greve, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late Donald "Dan" and Elizabeth (Barron) Cote. Gordon was a former piper with the Black Watch Regiment R.C.A. He was a member of the Cape Breton Symphony Orchestra. Hewas a well-known fiddler and teacher. LITTLE ANSE - John William Clannon, Little Anse, Richmond County, 79 died Wednesday in Strait-Richmond Hospital. Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Hugh and Alexina (Sampson) Clannon. He was postmaster of Little Anse, Sampson's Cove, for 27 years, retiring in 1971. He was a member of St. Joseph's Society, Petit de Gras. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Evangeline Samson; a daughter, Geraldine (Mrs. Hubert Martell), Pondville; three sisters, Anna (Mrs. Narcisse Briand), Montauk, N.Y.; Mary (Mrs. Ambrose Boudreau), Halifax; Leontine (Mrs. Lawrence Samson), Petit de Gras; a brother, Hughie, Little Anse; three grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Catherine and Sarah; four
brothers, George, Benedict, Raymond and Peter. The body is in St. Joseph's Church, Petit de Grat, where funeral mass will be
10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Star of the Sea Cemetery, Petit de Grat.

CONRAD, Leo Francis "Sonny" - 63, passed away peacefully March 27, 2006, surrounded by his loving family in QEII Health Sciences Centre. He was a son of the late Leo and Florence (Bowman) Conrad. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jeanette (Sampson); daughter, Ann Marie (Wells); sisters, Grace (Ron Murphy), Eileen Connors, Joan (Ron Hogan), Maureen (Fred Wile); brothers, Brian and Mike (Rhonda); many special nieces and nephews. Sonny was a member of the Plumbers Union Local 56 for 42 years and owner of Leo's Plumbing and Heating. Together with his wife and son-in-law, John, he managed the business for 18 years. Sonny will be remembered for his wonderful smile, his quiet wisdom and the wonderful kindness that he shared. He was a wonderful husband, great Dad and father-in-law, and loving grandfather "Puppy". He will be missed by family and many friends. We would like to thank the staff of 6A, VG Site, QEII, for the exceptional care they provided. We are truly grateful. She served as postmistress in Little Anse for many years prior to her retirement. COSMAN, Kenneth Gregory Sr. - River Bourgeois. It is with sadness that the family of Kenneth Cosman announces his peaceful passing on December 27, 2007, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Mabou on April 19, 1930, he was a son of the late Earl, Anne and Jessie Cosman. Ken lived in River Bourgeois for the past 49 years. Kenneth began his career at the Royal Bank in Port Hood and Sydney Mines, and then went on to become the manager of the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission in St. Peter's. Ken also had his own insurance business. After his retirement in 1986, Ken and Mary enjoyed many years of traveling and camping. Ken was an avid reader and loved going for walks, fine crafts and Celtic music. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 55 years, Mary (Cholock) Cosman; children, Debra (David) Digout, Kenny (Joanne) Cosman, Maureen (Neil) Burke, all of River Bourgeois; Brenda (Jeff) Bourque, Mount Uniacke; grandchildren, Tanya, (Chris) Boudreau, Halifax; Christian (Pam) Digout, Edmonton; Shauna Digout, Halifax; Tasha Lynn Burke, Toronto; Joel Burke, Halifax; Alisha Burke, Antigonish; great-grandchildren, Ella and Addison Boudreau. Service was held in Uticah, Michigan on Feb 28, 2008, followed by a celebration of life at her residence in Sterling Heights.
