ROHRBACH, Herman Albert - 61, 21 Dinn St., Glace Bay, died December 5, 1994, in Glace Bay Hospital, South Street. Born in Birch Grove, Cape Breton County, he was a son of Angelina (Caty) Rohrbach, Glace Bay, and the late Richard
Rohrbach. He was employed as a construction labourer with Landry Construction until retirement in 1987. He was an adherent to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay. He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Lynn MacLeod, at

RECTOR, Amos Joseph - 81, White Birches Retirement Residence, Amherst, died June 5, 1995, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Maccan, he was a son of the late Tupper and Cora (Cooke) Rector. He served overseas during the Second World War for over four years with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders 85th Battalion. He was employed with Enamel Heating for a number of years after the war and then as a carpenter throughout the area. He was a member of Nativity of Our Lady Roman Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, North Nova's Memory Club and Royal Canadian Legion, branch 10, Amherst. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed helping others. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Louise Landry; daughter, Avalon (Mrs. Thomas J. McGann), North Ridgeville, Ohio; sisters, Joan Morris, Halifax; Doris Clarke, Mary Perry, Amherst; brothers, John, Halifax; Tupper, Joseph, Amherst; two grandchildren. RUSSELL, Daniel J. - 44, Lakefront Road, Dartmouth, and Tobin Road Extension, North Sydney, died Thursday, November 21, 1996, in Halifax. Born in North Sydney, he was a son of John and Louise (Landry) Russell, North Sydney. He was employed as night shift supervisor with the Halifax Shipyards and he was a former yard manager of North Sydney Marine Railway. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, North Sydney; former member of North Sydney Kinsmen Club. He was a hard worker, a great lover of horses and played the guitar. He will be sadly missed by his many friends, co-workers and loved ones. He is survived by his companion, Johnena MacDonald; daughter, Nancy at home; grandchildren, Daniel and Cody; sisters, Jean (Mrs. Doug Cavanaugh), Ruth (Mrs. Roy Steffens), both of North Sydney; brother, Peter, Georges River; a number of nieces and nephews. He was in the Black Watch Regiment for six years, four of which were in Germany. In later years he joined Irving Oil Ltd., as a seaman on the tankers and stayed for over 30 years. Surviving are daughters, Amanda, Halifax; sons, Wallen Jr., Wade; stepson, Cory, Arichat; granddaughter, Kayleigh; brothers, Gaston, Clifford, Arichat. He was predeceased by his brothers, Paul, Alfred, two in infancy, Omer and Wilfred. Cremation has taken place. RICHARD, Alfred Herman - 80, River Bourgeois, passed away March 26, 2000, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, surrounded by his loving family. Born in South River Bourgeois, he was a son of the late Charles and Vina (Landry) Richard. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, River Bourgeois. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in the Merchant Marines which took him to all corners of the globe. He sailed the Great Lakes. He was employed by Patterson Steamships Ltd. prior to working for Stora Forest Industries, Point Tupper. He was a victim of the 1982 mill explosion which left him totally disabled. He spent his
retirement years carving decorative ducks. During his courageous battle over the last 18 years he kept his sense of humour. She was one of the founding members of St. John the Baptist CWL Council, River Bourgeois, Cape Breton and a past member of St. Peter's CWL, Dartmouth. St. Peter’s – Genevieve Helen Rankin, 65, St. Peter’s, died Saturday in Strait Richmond Hospital.  Born in River Bourgeois, she was a daughter of Agnes and the late Charles P. Sampson.  She was a former president of St. Peter’s Community Club and until recently was a member of the board of St. Peter’s Co-Op.  She was a past member of the St. Peter’s Altar Society and the town’s home and school association.  She retired last year from the staff of Richmond Villa, where she had worked since the nursing home opened.  Besides her mother, she is survived by four sons, John, Port Hawkesbury; Kemp, Point Edward; Clair, Truro; Charlie, at home; four daughters, Ann (Mrs. Michael Labelle), Doris and Susan, all of Ottawa; Sharon (Mrs. Gilbert Castelin), Alabama; seven sisters, Rita (Mrs. Leo Wood), Pittsfield, Mass.; Cecilia (Mrs. Charlie Pace), Kay (Mrs. Clinton Woods), Gret (Mrs. Elmer Elliott), and Patsy (Mrs. William McKay), all of Halifax; Jean (Mrs. James Richards), Dartmouth; Joan (Mrs. Bernice Viscount), River Bourgeois; one brother, Arthur, Lower Sackville; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two husbands, D.K.             ROCHE (Mury), Antoinette M. - Passed away in Wingate Nursing Home in Reading on March 20, 2004, she was 89. Antoinette was born and raised in Nova Scotia and has been a resident of Melrose for over 50 years. She came to the United States, worked as a seamstress for the Jordan Marsh Company in the upholstery division in Boston and thenb worked for many years in the lunch  program at the Coolidge Elementary School in Melrose. Mrs. Roche was an avid seamstress and knitter, was a member of the Tuesday Morning Women's Bowling League in Wakefield for 40 years and was a founding and active member of The Church of the Incarnation in Melrose. Antoinette traveled home to Cape Breton, every year until her
illness in 2004. She was the wife of Harold E. Roche. Mother of Anne Marie Braid and her husband Robert of Wilmington.

RUSSELL, Daniel J. - 44, Lakefront Road, Dartmouth, and Tobin Road Extension, North Sydney, died Thursday, November 21, 1996, in Halifax. Born in North Sydney, he was a son of John and Louise (Landry) Russell, North Sydney. He
was employed as night shift supervisor with the Halifax Shipyards and he was a former yard manager of North Sydney Marine Railway. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, North Sydney; former member of North Sydney Kinsmen
Club. He was a hard worker, a great lover of horses and played the guitar. He will be sadly missed by his many friends, co-workers and loved ones. He is survived by his companion, Johnena MacDonald; daughter, Nancy at home; grandchildren, Daniel and Cody; sisters, Jean (Mrs. Doug Cavanaugh), Ruth (Mrs. Roy Steffens), both of North Sydney; brother, Peter, Georges River; a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Sheila. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. RANSON, Ferdinand Peter - 85, Halifax, died peacefully November 11, 2004, in  Northwood Centre. Born in D'Escousse, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late  Albert and Elzada (Pettipas) Ranson. He is survived by his son, Brian,  Dartmouth; sister, Doris, Cape Breton; brothers, Wilfred, Lower Sackville;  Tom, Prince Rupert, B.C.; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his  beloved wife, Bridget Genevieve; sisters, Eva and Martha; brothers, Nat and  Raymond. He worked for DND as a carpenter and supervisor for 37 years, retiring in 1983. He was a long-time member of St. John Vianney Roman
Catholic Church, where he was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, St. John Vianney Council No. 7077. He was also a 4th degree member of the Jerald Berry Assembly 2579 of the Knights of Columbus. Peter loved life and had a great sense of humour. He enjoyed many activities such as woodworking, oil painting, leatherwork, ceramics, darts, bowling and cribbage. He was also active in many community organizations. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. John Vianney Church, Lower  Sackville, followed by a reception in the church hall, and by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. RICHARD, Godfrey Edward - 92, Hureauville, Richmond Co., passed away peacefully Friday, April 14, 2006, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Cape Auget, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late Henry and Mary Ann (Goyetche) Richard. He retired from A.E.C.L. Point Tupper in 1979. He also worked for the CNR for over 30 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Lower River Inhabitants. He is survived by sons, James (Bernice), Hureauville; Leo (Cathy), Louisdale; Paul, at home; daughters, Gladys (Roger) Feener, Dartmouth; Rose Marie (Jack) Goyetche, Arichat; Evelyn (Dave) Sartor, Victoria, B.C.; sister, Mary C. Cogswell, Princeville; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by wife, Mae (LeBlanc); sisters, Eva, Bertha, Janie Louise, Julia, and one in infancy; brothers, William, Phillip, Alexander. Also left to mourn is special friend, Mabel Baker. COGSWELL, Mary Cecilia - 95, Hureauville, Richmond Co., died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Hureauville, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mary Ann (Goyetche) Richard. In her younger years, Mary worked as a clerk in the former Fred Grant Store, Grantville. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Parish, Lower River Inhabitants, and was a former member of St. Francis CWL. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick J.; sisters, Louise, Janie, Julia, Bertha, and Eva; brothers, Alexander, Phil, Willie, and Godfrey. ROBICHAUD, Edward Henry - 86, Arichat, died October 22, 2006, in St. Anne's Community and Nursing Centre after a long period of declining health following a major stroke in 1978. Born in Whitman, Mass., he was the youngest son of the late Charles and Dauphine (Plausse) Robichaud. Eddie was a noted high school athlete and attended Louisiana State University on a football scholarship before enlisting in the United States Navy in June of 1942. He rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer and participated in the D Day landings. He married army nurse Elizabeth M. Stevens in August 1942. After discharge from military service, they built their home in Manomet, Mass., and raised seven children while owning and operating a prosperous roofing and sheet metal company. While residing in Manomet, Eddie was active in beekeeping, youth sports, scouting and the local volunteer fire department. Eddie was an accomplished operatic tenor, having studied voice in Boston and New York. He had frequent guest roles with the Boston Opera and also the Handel and Hayden Society. He was the host and star of his own radio show in the 1950s and after abandoning a full-time music career to attend to his growing family, he continued to perform with many local theaters and choirs. Betty and Eddie retired in 1972 and moved to Arichat, where they proudly restored their 19th century heritage home and stayed active in community affairs, particularly Isle Madame's Volunteer Fire Department and public health services. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; his sons, Edward, Reston, Va.; Paul, Newmarket, N.H.; Phillip, Antigonish County; grandchildren, Colette, Rebecca, and Dylan. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth; children, Arthur, Stephen, and Michelle. A private memorial service for family is planned for the spring of 2007. She is survived by daughter Patricia (Pat) and Kenneth Christopher, son George and Vivian Rose and daughter in-law Paula Rose, grand children, Lea Anne, Donald, Robert, Tony and Martha, sister in-law Helen Langlois and six great grand children, two step great grand sons. She was predeceased by husband George Rose son Joseph Rose, twin daughters and siblings Leonard, Marie and Hubert. RANSON, Wilfred Amadee - 83, Sackville, passed away March 3, 2008, in QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in D'Escousse, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Albert and Elzada (Pettipas) Ranson. Wilfred was a member of Sackville 50 Plus Club and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Calais Branch 162. He owned and operated his own barbershop in the old CN Hotel for many years before working for VIA Rail, from where he retired in 1986. He loved playing darts, dancing and playing cards. He was a jack-of-all-trades, an avid camper, and loved boating. He had a great sense of humour and lived life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many close friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, the former Margaret "Peggy" Miller; daughter, Heather (Nick) Mansfield, Beaver Bank; son, Paul, Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Jillian and Chelsea; sister, Doris (Del) MacRae, Cape Breton; brother, Tom, Prince Rupert, B.C.; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Eva, Martha; brothers, Peter, Nat, and Raymond. No visitation by request. He is survived by sons, Ronnie (Christine) and John; brothers, Alfred (Margaret), Saint John; Kenny, St. Peter's; sisters, Pauline MacKay, Bonnie (Edward) Gardiner, Ann Marie (Sandy) MacDougall, Port Hawkesbury; Gail Poirier (Clifford Marchand), Poirierville; many nieces and nephews; maternal uncle, Ronnie (Etta) Whyte, Poulamon; aunt, Estelle Ranson, Louisdale; grandchildren, Marshall, Evan and Owen Ranson and Jada O'Toole, all of Saint John, N.B. Paul was predeceased by brothers, Cecil in infancy and Wayne. He was a man of few words since his illness of 15 years but he seemed happy living in St. Anne's Centre, Arichat where the staff treated him like family. RANSON, Bert Joseph, 81 - D'Escousse - It is with deep sadness that we announce his passing on September 1, 2011. Born in D'Escousse, he was the son of the late Joseph Wilfred and Marie Katherine (Forgeron) Ranson of Poulamon. Bert was an employee of Moirs for 25 years then moved back to Cape Breton in 1972 to work at the heavy water plant as an insulator and was also a member of the Heat & Frost Insulators Union, Local 116. He leaves to mourn his daughters Shelley Regan, Dartmouth; Sharon (Ricky) Stone, River Bourgeois; step-daughter Linda (Dennis) MacDonald, Janvrin's Island; sons David (Donna) Ranson, Poulamon; Glenn (Brenda) Ranson, Janvrin's Island; Mark Ranson, Ontario; sisters Lillian Landry, PDG; brothers James (Delores) Ranson, Bennie Ranson, all of D'Escousse and Chesley Ranson of Poulamon; 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife Frances (Lunn) Ranson; sister Mary Diliah Ranson, Poulamon and brother Ambrose Forgeron, England. Bert had been living in River Bourgeois for the last 3 ½ years with his daughter Sharon (Ricky) Stone. He was an avid card player who didn't mind travelling to D'Escousse, Janvrin's Island, River Bourgeois, St. Peter's and L'Ardoise, making many friends from all over. He will be sadly missed by all. RYAN, Marion Edith - 91, of Hali-fax, passed away peacefully September 28th, 2011, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in St. Peter's, Richmond Co., Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Captain Patrick and Ellen (Landry) Campbell. Marion was educated in St. Peter's and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Sydney City Hospital in 1942. She worked as a private nurse in Sydney, Halifax Infirmary and the VG Hospital. She was a long-time member of St. Lawrence Roman Ca-tholic Church as well as an active member of the CWL. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is
survived by daughter, Marguerite Ryan (Richard Lever) and several nieces and nephews. Bernadette had been employed with MacKenzie's  Photo Studio, New Glasgow and for many years, a homemaker and caregiver for numerous children whom she loved dearly. She loved attending dances with her husband Bill. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. Her best friend for 50 years was Betty MacDougall, New Glasgow and her special friend was Linda Willett, MacLellans Brook. She was a member of St. John's Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. Survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert William (Bill); son, Duncan William, New Glasgow; daughter, Florence Craig, Westville; sisters: Anita Fraser, NewGlasgow; Agnes (Lubin) LeBlanc, Halifax; brothers: Wilbert (Jean) DeCoste,

ROBERTS, RALPH DONALD - 80, Little Anse, passed away February 2, 2012, at St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish. Born in Windsor, Ontario, he was the son of the late Joseph and Blanche (Primeau) Robert. Ralph joined the Navy and served from 1950 to 1971 on HMCS Crescent, Iroquois, Portage, Granby, Fort Erie, Nootka, Magnificent, Cape Scott, La Hulloise, Bonaventure, and Gatineau. He received the Korea Medal, the Korean Volunteer Service Medal, the Special Service Medal, the Peacekeeping Medal, the UN Medal (Korea), the Queen's Jubilee Medal, and the Canadian Forces Decoration and Bar. After his discharge, he worked for the Legion for 13 years, retired, was the Service Officer for more than 18 years and a Life Member of the RCL Isle Madame Branch #150, he also received the Legionaire of the Year and various certificates. He received many awards, including the Minister of Veteran's Affairs Commendation, the Meritorius Service Medal and the Democracy 250 Medal and the 50 years Legion Service Medal. He is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Ann Roberts companion Gary Boudreau, PEI, Lorna Clannon (Gerard), Little Anse; sons, Walter Patrick (Jeannette) Arichat, J. Russell (Michelle) Michael companion Susan all of Ontario; sisters, Gloria Souilliere, Marlene Goddard (Ronald) both of Ontario; brothers, Jack (Josephine), Rene (Barbara) and sister in law Daisy, all of Ontario; grandchildren, Keith (Lina), Jill (Emilio), Erik (Melissa), Ashley, Tyler, Caitlin, Cory, Candace, Brianne and Bryson; great-grandchildren, Luciano, Anthony, Nicholas, Dominique, Valentino and Cayden as well as his companion of 13 years, Theresa Hill.
