Petit De Grat, Nov. 27-The death occurred at the home of her brother
here of Mrs. Cecile Samson at the age of 54 years. She leaves to
mourn six sons, and one daughter: George,Wilfred, Louis,Cletus,
Lubin, Hermom; Mrs.Gerard Terrio (Isabelle). Also her father Charles
Boudreau, four brothers,Vander,George,Clifford and Lubin;three
sisters,Mrs.Wilfred Landry (Irene) Priscells and Blandine.
The funeral was held from St.Joseph's Church here.
MURDOCH SAMSON
Petit De Grat, Nov. 27-The death occurred at the Isle Madame
Hospital, Arichat, of Murdoch Samson at the early age of 47 years.
He leaves to mourn, one sister, Mrs. Minnie Marchand of Petit De
Grat. Willie Samson of Samson Cove and Ernest Samson of Petit De
Grat. His funeral was held Saturday.

ALFRED SAMPSON, 51, 6641 Chisholm Avenue, Halifax, died yesterday at
home. Born in L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, he was the son of Thomas and
the late Victoria (Ranson) Sampson. He was a civil servant.
Surviving besides his father, are his wife, the former Evelyn Green;
three sons, Alan, Paul and Robert, all at home; five daughters,
Carolanne, Cheryl, Deborah and Nancy, all at home, and Beverly,
Calgary, Alta ; four brothers, Patrick, Helier, Harry and John, all
of Halifax; four sisters, Melinda (Mrs. Finley Evong), Halifax, and
Mary (Mrs. Lawrence Martell), and Beatrice (Mrs. John Martell), both
at Rockdale, Cape Breton, and Alice (Mrs. Alonzo Sampson), Lower
L'Ardoise. Two children predeceased him. The body is at the R. D.
Lindsay Funeral Home, Halifax. Funeral service will be held Saturday
at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine's Church, Halifax. Burial will be in
Gate of Heaven

SAMPSON, Hubert H. - 77, Rockdale, died May 20, 1997, at home. Born
in Halifax, he was a son of the late George and Hilda (Landry)
Sampson. He was a veteran of the Second World War and was retired

Department of Transportation. Surviving are his wife, the former

December 24,1994, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born
in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Leonie (Legere)
Landry. Prior to her
marriage she was employed at Christie Trunk and Baggage. She was a
member of Nativity of Our Lady Church; ladies auxiliary of Amherst
Fire Department; Monday evening and Wednesday afternoon Womens
Bowling League; was an avid
bingo player and canvassed for several charitable organizations.
Surviving are her husband, Douglas; daughters, Deborah Landry,
Tracy, Amherst; Wendy, Calgary; Sharon (Mrs. John Boucher Jr.), New
Glasgow; sons, Stephen, David,
Todd, Amherst; 12 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was

with Longard's and Fundy Construction and a member of Royal Canadian

Sampson. He was a retired pipefitter
for Stora Forest Industries having worked for over 33 years. He was
a member of local 972, Canadian Paperworkers Union. He was an avid
hunter and fisherman. Surviving are his wife, the former Bernadette

SAMPSON, Louis Xavier - 92, Big Pond, died August 13, 1996, at home.
Born in Poulamon, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late Frank and
Agnes (Landry) Sampson. He was a member of St. Mary's Parish, Big
Pond, and was active in the community for most of his life. He was
self-employed as a carpenter and also delivered mail on the north
side of East Bay for several years. Surviving are daughters, Yvonne

Dartmouth; sons, Frank, Big Pond; Robert, Sydney; sister, Mary

SLADDEN, Ronald Anthony - 26, Halifax, died December 8, 1996, in
Westlock, Alta. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Albert and Anne
(Landry) Sladden, Halifax. He worked in Alberta as an earth resource
technologist consultant for the last year and a half. He died in a
tragic motor vehicle accident. His common-law wife, Shari Cameron
and son, Anthony James Cameron died in the same accident. He will be
sadly missed by his family and friends. Surviving are daughters,
Maegan Erica, Dartmouth; sister, Arlene Chase, Simms Settlement;
many aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by maternal grandparents
Jeffrey and Bertha (Bouchard) Landry; paternal grandparents, Arthur

was a retired steel worker and a member of St. Augustine's Church.
He is survived by a son, Reg, Sydney; four daughters, Ada (Mrs.
Harry Youden), Marjorie (Mrs. Norman Campbell), Leona Lloyd and
Kathleen (Mrs. Howard Coadic) all of Sydney; 17 grandchildren and 40
great-grandchildren and 11 great great-grandchildren. He was

SAMPSON, Francis Henry - 72, Port Hawkesbury, passed away Friday, May 15,
1998, surrounded by his wife and family. Born in 1925, in Samsons Cove,
he was a son of the late Henry Sylvester and Marie Eva (Samson) Samson,
also of Samsons Cove. In his earlier years, he travelled all over the world
with the Foundation Josephine Salvage Tug. He also worked on the draggers
out of Petit-de-Grat. Upon his moving to Port Hawkesbury, he owned and operated
the Harbourview Lounge and the Schooner Restaurant. He later managed the
KFC on Reeves Street for 18 years. In his retirement, he was actively involved
in
the Knights of Columbus where he held a 4th degree and was chairman of
council activities. He was also a loyal and long serving member of St. Joseph's
Parish Council, the choir and served as a eucharistic minister. He was a
campaign fund-raiser and volunteer fund-raiser for the Canadian Cancer Society.
He was a member of Evergreen Club, Cape Breton Tourist Association and Port
Hawkesbury Quilting Club. He had a lifetime love for gardening, sewing, cards,
quilting and knitting, which he shared with all of his loved ones. He also
received several beautification awards for the love and pride he took in
his home and property. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Clara
Whitty; sons, Wayne and wife Toots, Port Hawkesbury; Darrell and wife JoAnn,

SAMPSON, Francis Henry - 72, Port Hawkesbury, passed away Friday, May
15, 1998, surrounded by his wife and family. Born in 1925, in Samsons Cove,
he was a son of the late Henry Sylvester and Marie Eva (Samson) Samson,
also of
Samsons Cove. In his earlier years, he travelled all over the world with
the Foundation Josephine Salvage Tug. He also worked on the draggers out
of Petit-de-Grat. Upon his moving to Port Hawkesbury, he owned and operated
the Harbourview Lounge and the Schooner Restaurant. He later managed the
KFC on Reeves Street for 18 years. In his retirement, he was actively involved
in the Knights of Columbus where he held a 4th degree and was chairman
of council activities. He was also a loyal and long serving member of St.
Joseph's Parish Council, the choir and served as a eucharistic minister.
He was a campaign fund-raiser and volunteer fund-raiser for the Canadian
Cancer Society. He was a member of Evergreen Club, Cape Breton Tourist Association
and Port Hawkesbury Quilting Club. He had a lifetime love for gardening,
sewing, cards, quilting and knitting, which he shared with all of his loved
ones. He also received several beautification awards for the love and pride
he took in his home and property. He is survived by his loving wife,
the former Clara Whitty; sons, Wayne and wife Toots, Port Hawkesbury; Darrell
and wife JoAnn, Halifax; Sheldon and wife Catherine Jane, Little Narrows;

Lloyd for the many lives he had inspired through his sense of humor, caring

was a member of St. Louis Parish and St. Louis CWL. She was a full-time homemaker,
who devoted her life to her husband and children. She will be sadly missed
by all. She is survived by her son, Bobby and wife Debbie; daughters, Bertha-Mae
Jeffrey and husband Danny, Diana Marchand and husband Benny, Eileen Samson
and husband Leopold, with whom she was residing, all of Louisdale; 11
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Thomas and Godfrey,
Louisdale; Eugene, Melrose, Mass. She was predeceased by her husband,
Alfred; sister, Leda Goyetche, Mary Landry, Eva Doucette; brothers, Wilfred,
Charles, John, Arthur. The late Mrs. Sampson will be resting in the Glen
Sampson Room, Louisdale, with visiting hours 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4, 7-9 p.m.

Navy on August 29, 1989; was posted on HMCS Terra Nova and he served in the
Gulf War, December 1990-May 1991. He was an air traffic controller, employed
with Transport Canada for the past two years in Moncton Centre. Surviving

in Arichat. Born July 27, 1926, in Petit de Grat, he was a son of the late
Andrew and Cecile (Boudreau) Samson. He attended Consolidated School 13,
Morrison High School and Johnstown Academy. He served in the Merchant
Marine during the Second World War (1942), Canadian Army active duty (1944-1946)
in the Infantry Corps and West Nova Scotia Regiment, Merchant Marine (1946-1950)
and the Royal
Canadian Air Force (1953-1970). At that time, he served as councillor
for Ward 11, Greenwood, and was chairman of the Home and School Association.
He was a retired teacher from Canso Regional Vocational School (1970-1988).
He was
representative of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union and Sub-Local Canso
Regional Vocational (1986-1987); secretary and chairman of IMDH School;
Board of Trustees (1974-1978); officer in Cadet Corps Arrow (19721984);
vice-president
of the Arichat Recreation Commission; past president and life member
of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 150; served as secretary on the executive
board of Le Courrier de la Nouvelle-Ecosse; elected member of Our Lady of
Assumption Parish Council for eight years and was a member of Isle Madame
Boat Club. At the time of his death he was president of Charles Forest Coop.

Mary Almira Boudreau; two daughters, Marlene (Mrs. Paul Landry), Lisa
and fiance Dennis Pollard; son, Earl, all of Dartmouth; four sisters,
Eileen
Sampson, Louisdale; Donzella (Mrs. Teddy Sampson), Grand Anse;
Mrs. Marcella Burne, Sackville; Ann Scanlan Ellis, Halifax; three brothers,
John, Wilfred, both of Halifax; Paul, Winnipeg, Man.; four grandchildren,
Sonya, Lia, Derek, Chad. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service
will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Pius X Church, Fairview, Rev. Basil Carew

in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown. Born in Louisdale, Richmond

Marchand. Throughout her life she resided in Louisdale, St. Peter's,
Amherst, Fort Erie, Ont. and Parkdale. Because of her talent for cooking,
she worked as a cook and also kept borders in her home. She is survived

HENRY SAMPSON,aged 68,a native of Arichat,died in the Psychopathic hospital,Boston,last
Friday night after being taken there from Gloucester for observation.He
was a son of the late John and Mary Sampson,of Arichat and was unmarried.For
a number of years he sailed to the Banks in Boston and Gloucester vessels.At
the outbreak of the Spanish-American War he enlisted and served in
the United States navy.Two brothers and one sister survive,Fred Sampson,of
Gloucester;John,of Boston,and Mary Foreson.of Arichat.

died Wednesday in St. Rita Hospital. Born in Lower L'Ardoise,
he was a son of the late George and Sarah Sampson. He resided in Lower
L'Ardoise most of his life and lived in Sydney for number of years.
He was a member of St. Mary's Church and Club 55. He is survived by
his wife, the former Margaret Peters; two sons, Napoleon, Pondville,
and Martin, Cheticamp; nine daughters, Laura (Mrs. Fred Pottie), Halifax;
Kathleen (Mrs. Alonzo Pottie), Toronto; Rose (Mrs. Roy MacLean), Sydney
River; Sarah (Mrs. Alvin Pyke), Annerine (Mrs. Jonathon Desveaux), Marie
(Mrs. Albert Mombourquette), and Janet (Mrs. Allan Arsenault), all of Sydney;
Mary (Mrs. David Campbell) and Doris (Mrs. Ralph Allen), both of South
Bar; a brother, Ernest, Sydney; 41 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by five brothers, a daughter and two infant sons. The
body is in T. W. Curry's Parkview Chapel. Funeral will be 11 a.m.

Carmen H. Sampson
Haverhill - Carmen H Sampson, 69, of 21 Farrwood Drive, died Tuesday
at Penacook Place. He was born in Watertown. During the Korean Conflict,
he served in the Navy aboard the destroyer USS Hailey. Mr. Sampson was
a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Cambridge for 35 years until
retiring in 1986. He was a member of VFW Post 2104 in North Andover, Elks
Lodge 165 in Haverhill, Disabled American Veterans in Billerica and Knights
of Columbus in Tewksbury. Mr Sampson bowled in the Senior Citizen and North
Andover leagues. He leaves wife of 46 years Aline M. (Fontaine) Sampson;
children Donna M, of Tyngsboro, Raymond of Cabot, Ariz., Carlene of Lowell,
Joseph of Haverhill and Theresa of Bradford; brothers Joseph Bourque of San
Jose, Calif., and Gerald and Peter Burke, and sisters Phyllis Burke, Agnes
Casey and Hattie Sampson, all of Canada; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were this morning at Dole, Childs, & Shaw Funeral
Home, 148 Main St, Haverhill. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

knew her because she touched each and everyone in her own special way. A

SAMSON, Lloyd Phillip - 48, died Tuesday, February 3, 1998, in the QEII
Health Science Centre, VG Site, Halifax. Born in Petit-de-Grat, Richmond
Co., he was a son of the late Hyacinth and Jeanette (Arsenault) Samson.
He graduated from IMDH in Arichat. He was a very active member of the
Halifax Cerebral Palsy Association, serving as treasurer for six years
and, until the time of his death, serving on the public relations and
fundraising committees. He volunteered his time and effort to Access-A-Bus
and Access-A-Taxi advisory committees. He was also on the board of directors
for DIAL (Disabled Individuals Alliance) and the Halifax Taxi Commission.
Prior to moving to Halifax, he was involved with the Cerebral Palsy Association
of Cape Breton and worked as a bookkeeper for LIP Grant for five years.
Lloyd was a special, loving brother and will be sadly missed by his brother,
Patrick; sisters, Mrs. Anita Boudreau, Berthilda (Mrs. Nicholas Boudreau),
Muriel (Mrs. Abraham Berthier), all of Petit-de-Grat. He was predeceased

SAMPSON, Francis Henry - 72, Port Hawkesbury, passed away Friday, May
15, 1998, surrounded by his wife and family. Born in 1925, in Samsons Cove,
he was a son of the late Henry Sylvester and Marie Eva (Samson) Samson, also
of Samsons Cove. In his earlier years, he traveled all over the world
with the Foundation Josephine Salvage Tug. He also worked on the draggers
out of Petit-de-Grat. Upon his moving to Port Hawkesbury, he owned and
operated the Harbourview Lounge and the Schooner Restaurant. He later managed
the KFC on Reeves Stree for 18 years. In his retirement, he was actively
involved in the Knights of Columbus where he held a 4th degree and
was chairman of council activities. He was also a loyal and long serving
member of St. Joseph's Parish Council, the choir and served as a Eucharistic
minister. He was a campaign fund-raiser and volunteer fund-raiser for
the Canadian Cancer Society. He was a member of Evergreen Club, Cape Breton
Tourist Association and Port Hawkesbury Quilting Club. He had a lifetime
love for gardening, sewing, cards, quilting and knitting, which he shared
with all of his loved ones. He also received several beautification awards
for the love and pride he took in his home and property. He is survived
by his loving wife, the former Clara Whitty; sons, Wayne and wife Toots,
Port Hawkesbury; Darrell and wife JoAnn, Halifax; Sheldon and wife Catherine
Jane, Little Narrows; daughters, Donna (Mrs. John Brokken), Halifax; JoAnne
(Mrs. Paul MacDonald), St. Louis, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by brother, Arthur and wife Viola, Samsons Cove; sisters,
Alvina Samson, Little Anse; Lorraine Dill, Lower Sackville; Lorretta (Mrs.

SHAW, Ivan George - 87, Arichat, Richmond Co., died September 21, 1998,
in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Arichat, he was a son
of the late Thomas and Ada (Parker) Shaw. He was the last surviving member
of his immediate family. Surviving are daughters, Helen Pursey, Riverview,
N.B.; June (Mrs. John Belliveau), Moncton; Ruth (Mrs. Thomas McKeown),
MacIntyres Lake; Mary, Arichat; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former

SAMPSON, Gilbert - 82, L'Ardoise, died November 25, 1998, in St. Martha's
Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the
late William Flavian and Mary Alice (Martell) Sampson. After working
in Halifax during the Second World War, he returned to L'Ardoise where
he operated a shoe repair store until his retirement. Surviving are brothers,
Lorenzo and wife Sadie, L'Ardoise; Wilfred, Whitinsville, Mass.; several
nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Herbie in infancy,
Raymond, Napoleon, Alphonso; sisters, Martha, Florence. Visitation 2-4,

SAMSON, Lorraine - 72, Petit-de-Grat, died November 28, 1998, at home,
surrounded by her children. Born in Little Anse, she was a daughter
of the late Jimmy and Clemence (Marchand) Samson. Always very proud of
her Acadian heritage, she was actively involved in her community and took
leadership roles in St. Joseph's CWL, le Mouvement Guides, le Festival
Acadien, Charles Forest Co-op and New Horizons Senior Citizens Club,
to name a few. Surviving are her daughters, Yvette (Leon) Samson; Odille
(Edward) DeRoche, Petit-de-Grat; Yolande Samson, Halifax; Selene (Tony)
DeRoche, Petit-de-Grat; Danette (Glen) Landry, Port Hawkesbury; sons,

Rita Landry, Arichat; brother, Norman, Truro; grandchildren, Raynelle,

Anne's Centre, Arichat. He was a son of the late Stephen and Eugenie (Boudreau)
Samson. He operated a grocery store for 25 years. He is survived by his wife,
Viola Samson; daughter, Theresa (Mrs. Larry Burke), River Bourgeois; sons,
