In pr[im]is Doe you knowe the Partyes plaintiffe & defend[an]ts and did or doe you knowe Walter Williams now or late of the Citty of London Silk dyer & how long have you knowne them any or either of them Declare.

2. Item

Doe you knowe the messuage or tenem[en]t & lands late of the s[ai]d Walter Williams situate in the parish of LLangattock LLingoed in the County of Monmouth formerly in the tenure or occupac[i]on of one Richard Rawlins or one William Hughes & now or late in the tenure or occupac[i]on of the s[ai]d def[endan]ts William George Did the s[ai]d Walter Williams as you know beleive or have heard on or before and how long before the twenty eighth day of May w[hi]ch was in the yeare of o[u]r Lord god One thousand six hundred eighty and eight or at any time and when and in what month & day of the Month or yeare order or direct a letter or writeing to be writt or sent or signe any letter or writeing to you or to Mr William Prichard of LLangattocke LLyngoed afores[ai]d informing you or the s[ai]d William Prichard that the s[ai]d Walter Williams had Sold the s[ai]d messuage Lands & premisses to the s[ai]d pl[ainan]t & directing or desireing you or the s[ai]d William Prichard to deliver all the Deeds evidences and writeings in yo[u]r or his custody relateing to the messuage and p[r]emisses now in question to the now pl[ainan]t or to any other & whom to his use or to that or the like & what effect or what was the effect & Substance of the said letter Declare as you knowe beleive or remember, Is the writeing now produced and shewed unto you the s[ai]d letter it selfe or a coppy thereof. And was the s[ai]d Letter it selfe or a coppy thereof on or before the s[ai]d 28th of May 1688 or how long before or when in what month on what day of the month & in what yeare shewed or delivered to you or to the s[ai]d William Prichard & where when by whom & in whose presence was the s[ai]d deeds or writeings demanded of you or the said Mr Prichard when where & by whom and what answere did you or he make thereto, & what discourse happened thereupon or thereat were you present at the delivery of the said Letter or any other l[ett]re from the said Walter Williams to the s[ai]d William Prichard by the pl[ainan]t & when what discourse then happened betweene the pl[ainan]t & the s[ai]d William Prichard touching the same & about the Super scripc[i]on subscripc[i]on & date of the same letter Did you then or at any other time and when peruse or read the said letter & with whose hand were the sup[er]scripc[i]on date & subscripc[i]on or any & w[hi]ch of them wrott as you knowe beleive or have heard are you acquainted w[i]th the handwriting of the said Walter Williams if soe, Declare wheither you doe know or beleive the name of the s[ai]d Walter Williams subscribed to the s[ai]d letter & the date of the s[ai]d Letter & the directions thereupon to the said William Prichard or any & which of them the proper hand writeing of the said Walter Williams as you knowe beleive or have heard have you at any time & when had any discourse w[i]th the s[ai]d W[illia]m Prichard touching the said Letter or the delivery thereof to him or the delivery of the writeing of the aforesaid p[r]emisses to the pl[ainan]t Did the s[ai]d William Prichard then show you the said Letter or owne his Receipt thereof ^or acknowledge the same letter or any and what part thereof to have beene subscribed w[i]th the proper hand of the said Walter Williams^ declare the whole Discourse you had w[i]th him touching the p[r]emisses, were you p[r]esent when the pl[ainan]t shewed his deede of purchase to the s[ai]d W[illia]m Prichard when did he showe them to him did he p[er]use them and what s[ai]d he thereupon Declare what you knowe belive or remember to all and every the p[ar]ticular questions of this Interrog[ator]y w[i]th the reasons & circumstances of such yo[u]r knowledge or beliefe at Large..

How neare to the [sa]id def[endan]ts Arnold & William George doth the s[ai]d Mr Prichard inhabite are they not dayly or how often conversant or together & is there not an extraordinary freindship betweene them & are they not related to one another was the s[ai]d Mr Prichard by any & whom & when desired or required to shew or produce the s[ai]d Letter to the said Arnold
or William George or either & which of them or to acquaint them or either & w[hi]ch of them w[i]th the s[ai]d Letter or the content thereof and did you or the s[ai]d Mr Prichard on or before & how long before the s[ai]d 28th day of May 1688 & when in w[ha]t month or yeare & what day of the month Show or p[ro]duce the s[ai]d Letter to the said Arnold or [Willia]m George or either & w[hi]ch of them or acquaint them or either & w[hi]ch of them with the content or substance thereof and was the s[ai]d Walter Williams name subscribed or written to the s[ai]d l[ett]re or writeing or was or were the s[ai]d Arnold & William George or either & w[hi]ch of them by any and whom and when & how long before the 28th day of May 1688 acquainted w[i]th or informed of the s[ai]d letter or writeing or the contents or substance thereof or did they or either & w[hi]ch of them at any time & when see or p[er]use the s[ai]d letter or writeing or owne Say or declare that they or either & w[hi]ch of them was or were acquainted w[i]th or informed or know or had seene or heard of the said letter or writeing or the contents or substance thereof Or that the s[ai]d Walter Williams had sold the said messuage & p[r]emisses in question to or to the use of the now pl[ainan]t or to that or the like or any other & what effect Declare what you knowe belive have heard or remember to all & every the p[ar]ticular questions of this Inter[rogator]y w[i]th the reasons and circumstances thereof at Large.

Did you see all or any and which of the Deed or Deeds writeing or writeings now p[ro]duced & shewed unto you or any and which of them Sealed and delivered or Signed by all or any & w[hi]ch of the party or p[ar]ties thereto or by the p[er]son or p[er]sons whose name or names are or is subscribed or written as p[ar]tie or p[ar]ties or witnesse or witnesses thereto & w[hi]ch of them and is or are yo[u]r name or the name or names of all or any & w[hi]ch of the witnesse or witnesses thereto or to either or any & w[hi]ch of them of yo[u]r his their or either & w[hi]ch of their handwriteing Declare as you knowe beleive have heard or remember with yo[u]r reasons therefore at Large.

Was or is the name of the said defend[an]t Arnold George in the Mortgage or Conveyance made to him of the s[ai]d messuage& p[r]emisses in question by the s[ai]d Walter Williams in trust or for the use or to be in trust or for the use of the said def[endan]t William George his Father Declare as you knowe beleive have heard or remember.

When did you last see the s[ai]d Walter Williams where is he now, is he liveing or dead or what is become of him were you at any time or times & when & how often imployed by the pl[ainan]t to finde out the s[ai]d Walter Williams & have you used yo[u]r utmost endeavours soe to doe, where, when, and how; hath the pl[ainan]t done the like as you knowe or beleive Declare as you knowe beleive or have heard

Did you at any time heretofore & when owe the sum[m]e of One hundred pounds to the pl[ainan]ts wife If soe declare how you paid or ordered the same to be paid to the pl[ainan]t. Did you at any time & when & about what time charge a bill for repaym[en]t of the said One hundred pounds upon Mr Child goldsmith neare Temple barr in Fleet Street London or upon any p[ar]tner or Servant of his or any other p[er]son or p[er]sons & whom by name as you know or remember, Did you at any time & when consigne or deliver or give any bill chardged upon him them or any of them to the plaintiffe or any other for him to pay the said One hundred pounds Did you thereupon or afterwards receive up the bond or other Security you entered into for the said One Hundred pounds to be cancelled and had you any & what receipt or discharge thereupon for the same if soe sett forth the same Did you at any time & when receive any order or bill from Clement Gibbs liveing in or neare old Fish street London Vintner or from any other p[er]son or p[er]sons & whom by name charged upon the aforesaid Mr Child or his p[ar]tner or Servants or any bill or order whatsoever to pay to the pl[ainan]t by the name of Charles Morgan or to his order the sum[m]e of one hundred pounds If soe to whom by name & when did you pay the same & what discharge or receipt had you upon the said bill or otherwise for the said sum[m]e. Declare what you knowe beleive or have heard touching the receiveing of any & what sum[m]e or sum[m]es of money & when by the defend[an]t Walter Williams from the pl[ainan]t Charles Morgan or by his order as the considerac[i]on money for the purchase of the Lands and tenements in question or otherwise Declare what you knowe beleive have heard or remember to all & every the p[ar]ticular questions of this Interrogatory w[i]th the reasons & circumstances thereof at Large.

Weare you at any time and when as neare as you can remember desired by the plaintiffe to give the def[endan]t William George notice that the plaintiffe had bought the Messuage Lands and tenements in question of the defend[an]t Walter Williams and that a certaine Oake growing in or neare a hedge devideing parte of the same Lands and the pl[ainan]ts Lands w[hi]ch was then in dispute betweene the pl[ainan]t and the said defend[an]t as to the property thereof was then out of question by reason of the plaintiffs said purchase Did you at any time & when give notice ^or declare^ to the said defend[an]t ^W[illia]m George^ or acquaint him that the plaintiffe had bought the s[ai]d premisses of the said Walter Williams & that the s[ai]d Oake was out of dispute and what did the defend[an]t George say thereupon was the plaintiffe absent from his dwelling house for any & how long time before such notice given or in or before the Month of May 1688 and upon what occasion was he soe absent and when did he returne home & how long after did you give such notice to or acquaint the s[ai]d defend[an]t of the said purchase and where was the plaintiffe dureing such his absence Did you then or in May 1688 live neare and how neare to the same defend[an]t and how long did you before live neare to the said def[endan]t William George Did the same defend[an]t presently after such or any other notice of the said purchase or delivery of the letter. menc[i]oned in the Second Interrog[ator]y to the
other defend[an]t William Prichard or in the month of May 1688 & when in the said month as you have heard or beleive goe to London to the said Walter Williams to purchase from him a Release or any other Estate of the premisses Doe you knowe when & where the plaintiffe was married and when after his marriage did he ^first^ returne to his dwelling house Doe you knowe when the plaintiffe purchased the Equity of Redempc[i]on of the tenem[en]ts in question of the afores[ai]d Walter Williams and how long after his marriage & before his returne to his dwelling house did he make the same purchases Sett forth what you knowe beleive or have heard touching the times of the pl[ainan]ts marriage of his s[ai]d purchase & of his returne to his dwelling house. Declare as you knowe beleive or have heard w[i]th yo[u]r reasons therefore at Large.

Were you p[re]sent and when att any and what Discourse or Proposalle betweene the Pl[ainan]ts and the Def[endan]t Walter Williams touching the Pl[ainan]ts purchaseing of the Lands and Tenem[en]ts in Question from the same Def[endan]t or his Estate Right or Equity of Redemption therein & thereto and were you concerned in the makeing or receiveing any such proposalls? Did the Def[endan]ts William George and William Prichard or any or either and w[hi]ch of them or any other p[er]son or p[er]sons for them or either and w[hi]ch of them at any time or Times and when by L[ett]re or otherwise acquaint or informe or Declare or owne to you that they or {either of them the said Def[endan]ts had rec[eive]d notice by the} l[ett]re menc[i]oned in the second Interr[ogatory] or by any other and what wayes or meanes or had heard {and were informed and when and how that the} said Walter Williams had sold the p[r]emisses or his Estate or Right therein {to the pl[ainan]t? Was} the said l[ett]re shewed to you att any time or times and when and by whom? Did you then and doe {you now belive the same was subscribed w[i]th the proper hand writeing} of the said Walter {Williams and are you acquainted w[i]th his hand writeing Did you write any L[ett]re to the pl[ainan]t acknowledging that you had heard or had beene informed and acquainted from or by the Def[endan]ts William George and William Prichard or either and w[hi]ch of them of the pl[ainan]ts said Purchase and when was the said l[ett]re Dated as neare as you can remember Was it wrott by you before and how long before the said Walter sealed or contracted for or agreed to seale a Release of his Equity of Redemption to the Def[endan]t Arnold George? Was the said Def[endan]t Walter Williams after the aforesaid Notice given of his aforesaid sale to the Pl[ainan]t arrested and kept in custody or imprisoned in any Acc[usati]on or Acc[usati]ons and by whom and at whose suite and where and upon what Contrivance or Designe? Did the Def[endan]t William George or you or any other p[er]son or p[er]sons treate or p[r]evaile w[i]th the said Walter Williams and procure or agree w[i]th him whilst he was imprisoned or in Custody or soone after his Discharge to seale a Release of his Equity of Redemption in the pr]emisses to the Def[endan]t William George or Arnold George or either and w[hi]ch of them and was such Release treated for agreed to and p[ro]cured or sealed before or after such time as the said Def[endan]ts William George and William Prichard or either of them had in any sort owned acknowledged or Declared to you that he or they had rec[eive]d Notice or were inform'd of the aforesaid sale made by the said Walter Williams to the pl[ainan]t? Were you p[r]esent at or assisted in the treaty or Agreem[en]t had and made touching the Execuc[i]on of the aforesaid Release to the said Def[endan]t William George or Arnold George or either of them or at or in the Execuc[i]on of the same Release? Did the said Walter Williams then or at any time before and when declare to the Def[endan]t William George that he the said Walter Williams had sold the p[r]emisses to the pl[ainan]t and rec[eiv]e of him any and what sum[m]e or sum[m]es of money in Considerac[i]on of such Sale? Declare all that you knowe belive or have heard touching the Agreem[en]t Discourse Contrivances and Treaty had and used by and betweene the said William George or any other for him and the said Walter Williams touching or concerning the obtaining of the same Release and att and in the time of the Execuc[i]on thereof and all other Discourses} you have {had w[i]th the said} Walter Williams touching the aforesaid sale to the Pl[ainan]t {Declare the truth of yo[u]r} Knowledge therein and what you belive or have heard touching this Interr[ogator]y and yo[u]r Reasons and Circumstances thereof

Were you p[r]esent at the tendring of any and how much money by the Pl[ainan]t att the Def[endan]t William Georges house when and to whom and in what man[n]er and wherefore was such Tender made? and was the money soe Tendered accepted or refused and by whom and what Discourse happened thereupon Did the Pl[ainan]t at any time and when and by whom give Notice to the Def[endan]t William George that he would tender the said money and to desire him and his sonne the Def[endan]t Arnold George to be & stay att home to receive the said money and was the money Tendred upon the Day appointed according to such Notice Declare all that you Knowe touching the said Tender and the truth of yo[u]r Knowledge herein and what you belive or have heard touching this Interr[ogator]y and yo[u]r Reasons and Circumstances thereof

of Witnesses had taken and Examined att the Dwelling House of Zachariah Heyward Inneholder being the signe of the Kings Head situate in the Towne of Monmouth in the County of Monmouth upon the Twentieth Day of Aprill in the Third yeare of the Reigne of o[u]r Sovereigne Lord and Lady William and Mary now King and Queene over England And in the yeare of o[u]r Lord God One Thousand six hundred Ninety and One By vertue of a Com[miss]ion out of their Ma[jes]ties High Court of Excheq[ue]r at Westm[inste]r to - - - Thomas Gunter and Robert Needham and to James Parry and David Price gent. directed for the Examinac[i]on of Witnesses in a Cause there depending and all Issue betweene Charles Morgan Esq[uie]r Pl[ainan]t and William George and Arnold George an Infant by the said William George his Guardian Def[endan]ts as followeth.

    Jane Morgan of Bergavenny in the County of Monmouth Spinster aged One and Thirty yeares or thereabouts a Witnesse produced sworne and Examined on the Compl[ainan]ts behalfe deposeth as followeth:

To the First Interr[ogator]y this Depon[en]t sayth That she knowes all the Partyes in that Interr[ogator]y named and hath knowne them for severall yeares Last past
2:8:11 To the Second Eightth and Eleventh Interr[ogator]y this Depon[en]t sayth That the Pl[ainan]t and his now wife were marryed att St. James's Church in the County of Midd[lese]x upon or about the Three and Twentith Day of February w[hi]ch was in the yeare of o[u]r Lord God One Thousand Six hundred Eighty and Seaven at w[hi]ch Marriage this Depon[en]t was p[r]esent And that from the time of the said Marriage till the beginning of May One Thousand Six hundred Eighty and Eight the said Pl[ainan]t and his wife and this Depon[en]t remained and continued together for some time in and about the Citty of London and then removed from thence to Farneham Castle (the place of Residence of ^the^ then and p[r]esent Lord Bishiopp of Winchester) and remained there for sometime and from thence returned againe to London and remained there together till the beginning of the said Month of May One Thousand Six hundred Eighty and Eight And sayth that on or about the Third Day of May One Thousand Six hundred Eighty and ^Eight^ She this Depon[en]t went from London to the Citty of Oxeford leaveing the Pl[ainan]t in London and about Three or Fower Dayes after the pl[ainan]t came to this Depon[en]t to the Citty of Oxeford where he remained for a Day or Two and afterwards began his Journey towards his now Dwelling House in the Parish of LLangattocke LLyngoed in the said County of Monmouth leaveing this Depon[en]t in Oxeford and belives the pl[ainan]t arrived att his said Dwelling house on or about the Tenth Day of May One Thousand Six hundred Eighty and Eight And further saith That to this Depon[en]ts Knowledge the said Pl[ainan]t had not beene from the Time of his said Marriage till on or ab[ou]t the said Tenth Day of May One Thousand Six hundred Eighty and Eight att his said Dwelling House for that this Depon[en]t saw him Dayly from the Time of his said Marriage till her leaveing of him in London as aforesaid in or about the Citty of London and att Farneham Castle aforesaid and in the Road betweene those places this Depon[en]t travelling and Lodgeing and Resideing dureing all the same Time in the same House w[i]th the Pl[ainan]t And this Depon[en]t further sayth that after the Pl[ainan]ts said Marriage and before his Returne to his aforesaid Dwelling house and dureing the Time this Depon[en]t was w[i]th him in London this Depon[en]t sawe Walter Williams in the First Interr[ogatory] named oftentimes at the Pl[ainan]ts Lodgeings offering to sell to the pl[ainan]t his Equity of Redempc[i]on in and to the Lands and Tenemants in the second Interr[ogator]y menc[i]oned as this Depon[en]t than understood and was informed and verilly belives that the said Walter Williams did after the Pl[ainan]ts said Marriage and before his First Returne after his said Marriage home to his Dwelling house contract for and sett and seale Conveyances of his said Equity of Redempc[i]on to the Pl[ainan]t for that this Depon[en]t was soe informed and understood whilst she remained as aforesaid w[i]th the Pl[ainan]t in London.             Jane Morgan
    John Morgan of the Parish of LLangattocke LLyngoed in the County of Monmouth gent aged Fower and Twenty yeares or thereabouts A Witnesse produced sworne and Examined on the Compl[ainan]ts behalfe Deposeth as followeth.

To the First Interr[ogator]y this Depon[en]t sayth That he doth knowe all the Persons in that Interr[ogator]y named and hath Knowne them and every of them for severall yeares last past
2:8 To the second and Eighth Interr[ogator]yes this Depon[en]t sayth that he doth very well Knowe the Messuage Lands and Tenem[en]ts in these Interr[ogator]yes menc[i]oned And that this Depon[en]t being the Pl[ainan]ts Brother dwelt and resides in the Pl[ainan]ts now Dwelling House situate in the aforesaid Parish of Llangattocke LLingoed from Christmas One Thousand six hundred Eighty and seaven till the beginning of the Month of May One Thousand six hundred Eighty and Eight dureing all w[hi]ch Time the Pl[ainan]t was absent from his said House and in or ab[ou]t London as this Depon[en]t verilly belives being in that time Marryed to his now wife in or - - - London as this Depon[en]t alsoe belives And sayth that the First Time the Pl[ainan]t returned to his said house after his said Marriage was on or ab[ou]t the Tenth Day of May One Thousand Six hundred Eighty and Eight And this Depon[en]t further sayth that the Pl[ainan]t some few Dayes after his said Returne home informing this Depon[en]t of the Delivery of a certaine L[ett]re by him to William Prichard in the second Interr[ogator]y named w[hi]ch had beene sent him the said Prichard by the Def[endan]t Walter Williams in that Interr[ogator]y ^alsoe^ named desireing the said Prichard to deliver the writeings of the Lands and Tenem[en]ts in that Interr[ogator]y menc[i]oned to the Pl[ainan]t and that the said Prichard had desired of the Pl[ainan]t time to consider touching his Delivery up of those writeings He the said Pl[ainan]t desired this Depon[en]t to goe w[i]th one Hudson then the Pl[ainan]ts serv[an]t to the said Prichard and Demand the said Deeds and Writeings of him for the pl[ainan]ts use And thereupon this Depon[en]t im[m]ediatly did goe together w[i]th the said Hudson to the said Prichard and did Demand of him the said Deeds and Writeings for the Pl[ainan]t to w[hi]ch ^Demand^ the said Prichard then replyed that he had delivered the said Deeds and Writeings elsewhere but would not then acquaint this Depon[en]t to whom he had Delivered them And this Depon[en]t further deposeth That some short time after (but the p[ar]ticular time this Depon[en]t remembreth not) he was p[r]esent and did see the pl[ainan]t show his Deeds of Purchase of the aforesaid p[r]emisses from the said Walter Williams to the said William Prichard and did heare the pl[ainan]t read the same or the most materiall p[resen]ted thereof to the said Prichard who lookeing upon them whilst the pl[ainan]t was reading of them scratched his Head and seemed to be much troubled ab[ou]t those Deeds and said I Knowe his ugly Fish too well meaneing as this Depon[en]t verilly belives the Name of the said Walter Williams subscribed to the said Deeds And this Depon[en]t further sayth That upon the very Day that the Pl[ainan]t first returned as aforesaid to his Dwelling house he desired this Depon[en]t to acquaint the Def[endan]t William George that the Oake then in Dispute betweene them and menc[i]oned in the Eighth Interr[ogator]y was then out of Question and to give him Notice that the Pl[ainan]t had bought the Messuage and Lands in Question of the aforesaid Walter Williams or to that effect and that some few Dayes after and severall Dayes before the Twentyth Day of May One Thousand Six hundred Eighty and Eight this Depon[en]t and the same Def[endan]t met together and im[m]ediatly the said Def[endan]t William George told this Depon[en]t that he had heard that the Pl[ainan]t had bought the Estate wherein the same Def[endan]t then Dwelled being the Messuage and Lands in Question to w[hi]ch this Depon[en]t replying that the Pl[ainan]t had bought it the said Def[endan]t William George im[m]ediatly Replyed these words or words to this effect Much good may doe him w[i]th it And ab[ou]t a weeke after the said Discourse betweene the said Def[endan]t William George and this Depon[en]t the same Def[endan]t and his wife did goe for London and procured the said Walter Williams to seale and Release of his Equity of Redempc[i]on in the p[r]emisses to the same Def[endan]t or his sonne the other Def[endan]t Arnold George as this Depon[en]t verilly belives - - - -

1: To the First Interr[ogator]y this Depon[en]t sayth that he doth very well Knowe the Partyes Pl[ainan]t and Def[endan]t and hath knowne them for severall yeasres last past
2:3:8 To the Second Third and Eighth Interr[ogator]yes this Depon[en]t sayth that he knoweth the Messuage and p[ar]te of the Lands in Question in the second Interr[ogator]y menc[i]oned and hath Knowne them for the space of Tenn ^last past^ yeares haveing beene for all that time an Inhabitant in the Parish in w[hi]ch the said p[re]misses are situate And that in the month of May One Thousand Six hundred Eighty and Eight but the p[ar]ticular Day of the Month this Depon[en]t rembreth not He this Depon[en]t being in Company w[i]th William Prichard in the Second Interr[ogator]y named in his the said Prichards then and now Dwelling House asked the said Prichard whether the then generall Report in the Neighbourhood That the Compl[ainan]t had bought the Messuage and Lands in Question of Walter Williams in the Interr[ogator]y menc[i]oned was true or not to w[hi]ch the said Prichard replyed He shew you p[r]esently or words to that effect and im[m]ediatly fetched a L[ett]re and Delivered it to this Depon[en]t to read and this Depon[en]t than p[er]used the same the Contente whereof was That the said Walter Williams had sold his Estate in LLangattocke LLingoed being the Tenem[en]ts in Question to the Compl[ainan]t and to direct the said Prichard to deliver the Deeds and Writeings in his possession touching the said p[re]misses to the Compl[ainan]t for that he the said Williams had sold the p[r]emisses to the Compl[ainan]t or to that effect and this Depon[en]t then observeing that the body of the said L[ett]re was wrott w[i]th a Faire hand and the same L[ett]re was subscribed Walter Williams in a very ill hand asked the said Prichard who wrott the body of the said L[ett]re to w[hi]ch he answered that it was the Compl[ainan]ts hand and im[m]ediatly this Depon[en]t alsoe asked the said Prichard whose hand had subscribed the name of the said Walter Williams to the said L[ett]re to w[hi]ch the said Prichard replyed it was the hand of that unlucky Bird Walter Williams or words to that effect And this Depon[en]t further sayth That this L[ett]re was soe showed to and p[er]used by this Depon[en]t and the aforesaid Discourse betweene this Depon[en]t and the said Prichard was had some Time before the said William George (as it was ^then^ generally reported in the said Neighbourhood) did goe to London to purchase the p[r]emisses from the said Walter Williams And shortly after it was generally reported in the said Neighbourhood that the Def[endan]t William George had beene in London and had bought the p[r]emisses of the said Walter Williams.        Cha[rles] Powell

To the Tenth Interr[ogator]y this Depon[en]t sayth That upon the Fifth Day of January last past this Depon[en]t together w[i]th one William Morgan of Bergavenny Apothecary Mr. John Morgan of LLangattocke LLingoed Mr. John Jones and the Comp[lainan]ts serv[an]t whose name this Depon[en]t knoweth not did accompany the Compl[ainan]t to the Def[endan]t William George's Dwelling house being the Messuage in Question where finding the Doore shutt and after severall Times Pushing at the said Doore and receiveing noe Answer the Compl[ainan]t asked a serv[an]t or doorwoman of the Def[endan]t William George's where the same Def[endan]t then was who answered he was gone to Comyoye And the Compl[ainan]t then asked him where the Def[endan]t Arnold George then was and the said doorwoman answered he was gone to Monmouth and p[re]sently after the wife of the Def[endan]t William George appearing the Compl[ainan]t asked her whether the said Def[endan]ts were att home to w[hi]ch she replyed they were both from home whereupon the Compl[ainan]t tould her That he had brought thither the Mortgage money and Interest due for the same that were due upon the Mortgage made by Walter Williams of the Messuage and Lands in Question or words to that effect w[i]th a Designe to pay the same and then viz. upon the said Fifth Day of January last past ab[ou]t Twelve of the Clocke of the same Day the Doore of the said Messuage being shutt the Compl[ainan]t did lay upon the stones or grounds before the said Doore several Baggs of money in w[hi]ch were contained in sylver and Gold Four hundred and Thirteene pounds of Lawfull money and then i[m]mediatly Declared to her that he did then and there Tender and the Compl[ainan]t did then and there tender the said Fower Hundred and Thirteene pounds as the said Mortgage money and Interest and was then and there ready to pay the same in satisfact[i]on of the said Mortgage and then and there asked her whether she would receive it and w[i]th all then opened one of the said Baggs and then the Compl[ainan]t or some of the aforesaid p[er]sons then p[re]sent by his order did take p[ar]te of the said money and she then refused to receive any p[ar]te of it giveing scurilous Language to the Compl[ainan]t whereupon the Compl[ainan]t Desired this Depon[en]t and the rest p[er]sons to beare Witnesse that he had Tendred the money as aforesaid and then tould the said Def[endan]t William George's wife that since she would not receive it now or any other p[er]son was there to receive it he would take it home againe accordingly soe did And further Deposeth that the full sum[m]e of Fower hundred and Thirteene pounds was in man[n]er and att the Time and Place aforesaid Tendred for that this Dep[onen]t together w[i]th the aforesaid William Morgan did some short time before the said Tender take the said Sum[m]e and put it

1:3 To the First and third Interr[ogator]yes this Depon[en]t sayth that he doth very well know the Compl[ainan]t and ^the^ Def[endan]t Def[endan]t [sic] William George and alsoe very well Knoweth William Prichard in the Third Interr[ogator]y named and hath Knowne them from his Childhood and hath seene the Def[endan]t Arnold George And sayth That the said William George and William Prichard doe inhabite and have for ab[ou]t Fower yeares since inhabited w[i]thin lesse than halfe one Mile the ^Distant^ one from the other and that there is a very greate Kindnesse Familliarity and Friendship betweene them and are as this Depon[en]t belives very neare related the one to the other for that they call one another Cosen
10: To the Tenth Interr[ogator]y this Depon[en]t sayth That upon the Fifth Day of January last past this Depon[en]t together w[i]th his brother John Morgan of Langattock LLingoed James Price of Bergavenny Dyer Mr John Jones and William [blank] the Compl[ainan]ts then and now serv[an]t went w[i]th the Compl[ainan]t upon his request to the Messuage where the Def[endan]t William George did then and now Inhabite being the Messuage in Question and upon their arrivall there this Depon[en]t Knocked severall times at the Doore of the said House then shutt and the Compl[ainan]t Called aloud for the Def[endan]t William George and his sonne Arnold George and after some time staying there the Compl[ainan]t seeing a serv[an]t of the said Def[endan]t William George asked him where the same Def[endan]t then was who answered that he was gone to Comyoye and the Compl[ainan]t then inquired of the said serv[an]t where the said Arnold George then was and he answered that he was gone to Monmouth and some short time after the wife of the said William George appeareing the Compl[ainan]t inquired how far the said William George and Arnold George and she tould him that neither of them was at home whereupon the Compl[ainan]t then viz. ab[ou]t one of the Clocke of the same Fifth Day of January tould her that he was come thither to pay the Mortgage money and Interest for the same due upon the Mortgage of the Lands in Question made by the aforesaid Walter Williams according to the Content of the said Mortgage due im[m]ediatly then and there did lay upon the stones or ground before the Doore of the said Hoouse the same Doore being shutt in severall baggs the full sum[m]e of Fower hundred and Thirteene pounds in silver and gold of Lawfull money viz.   To the Third Interr[ogatory] this Depon[en]t sayth That the aforesaid William George and Arnold George and the aforesaid William Prichard doe inhabite in the aforesaid Parish ab[ou]t a Quarter of a Mile distant the one from the other and have soe inhabited for the space of ab[ou]t fower or Five yeares last past and that dureing the same time this Depon[en]t hath observed a great freindship Kindnesse and familliarity betweene the said William George and William Prichard and does belive that they are nearely related together.   John Oliver
