Will of James Jones 1838

This is the last Will and Testament of me James Jones of Greathouse within the parish of Llangattock Lingoed in the County of Monmouth yeoman being of sound memory and understanding I will and devise that all my just debts Funeral expenses with the costs and charges of proving this my will be fully paid and satisfied by my Executors hereinafter named I give and devise my Messuage Tenement Lands and other hereditaments situate in the parish of Grosmont in the afforesaid county unto my beloved wife and sons and their assigns for and during the term of her natural life (if said shall so long remain my widow) and from and after her decease or second marriage which soever shall first happen give devise and bequeath the said Messuage Tenement Lands and other hereditaments unto my son Thomas Jones his heirs and assigns for ever I give and bequeath all and every principal sum and sums of money due to me and secured by mortgages Bonds Notes or otherwise unto my sons James Jones and George Jones upon Trust that they and the survivors and survivor of them the Executors and administrators do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid to my beloved wife the full interest of all my money before named yearly and every year during her natural life if she shall continue so long my widow and the first payment to be made in twelve months next after my decease and from and after that decease or intermarriage which ever may first happen upon Trust to pay the sum of one hundred pounds part of the principal money unto my son Job Jones which payment to be made at the end of one year next after my decease and the decease of my wife and the decease of the survivor of us but without interest in the meantime Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Ann Millet out of the afforesaid principal money the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds to be paid in the same time as before directed and her signature to be a full and effectual discharge to my Executors (notwithstanding her coverture) Item from and after the decease of me and my beloved wife or the survivor of us I give and bequeath to my Daughter Sarah Tailor out of the principal moneys before mentioned the sum of Two hundred pounds payable as before directed and the signature to be a full and effectual discharge to my Executors (notwithstanding her coverture) Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Eleanor Jones the sum of Five hundred pounds part of the principal money in Trust as before therein expressed to her sole use and benefit payable as before directed and her signature to be a full discharge to my Executors (notwithstanding her future coverture) if it should so happen Item I give and bequeath to my son George Jones the sum of Three hundred pounds out of the afforesaid principal money before expressed to his sole use and benefit subject nevertheless to the before mentioned rules as in the before mentioned bequests set forth and directed by this my will Item I give and bequeath to my son William Jones the sum of Two hundred pounds to be paid him out of the principal money before named in one year next after my decease and the decease of my beloved wife and the decease of the survivor of us without interest in the meantime Item I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Ann Jones the Daughter of my late son James Jones the sum of one hundred pounds to be paid her out of my principal money when she arives at the age of Twenty one years the money to be placed out on Land or Government security as it may appear most secuer to my Executors and the Interest to be laid out to cloath and educate her the aforesaid Ann Jones during her minority I give and bequeath all my Household Goods and Furniture of every description and all my Dairy and Brewing utensils unto my beloved wife Ann Jones to be disposed of by her as she may think proper Item I give and bequeath all the Rest and Residue of my said moneys securities for moneys and all my Cattle Horses Sheep and all other living Stock Hay Grain Implements of Husbandry Goods Chattels Personal Estate and Effects whatsoever or wheresoever situated unto my son James Jones but subject to the payment of all the Legacies and just debts as before directed in this my Will and the remainder to be to and for the sole use and benefit Also I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said James Jones and George Jones my two sons joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all others and declaring this to be my last In Witness whereof I the said Testator James Jones have set my hand and seal this second day of January one thousand eight hundred and Twenty Three the mark of the Testator x James Jones Signed Sealed declared and published by the above named Testator James Jones as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto   John Gwillim of the Waine Elizabeth Powell Servant to the Testator Samuel Gwillim of the Hendee.

This will was proved at London on the 29th June 1838 by James Jones
and George Jones, sons of the deceased.
