In the name of God Amen I James Prichard of the parish of Langattock Lingoed in the County of Monmouth Gentleman do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say) I Give and Devise all and singular my Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever with the appurtenances situate lying and being in the said Parish of Langattock Lingoed or elsewhere in the said County of Monmouth unto my niece Ann Howells (wife of John Howells) and her Assigns for and during the Term of her natural life and from and after her decease I Give and Devise the same premises unto and to the use of James Howells (Son of the said Ann Howells) his Heirs and Assignes forever — I Give and bequeath unto my wife Sarah Prichard the sum of Two pounds And also all such Household Goods and Furniture as she was possessed of at the time of my marriage with her (Except only one Silver Tankard) — I Give and bequeath to my Cousin Elizabeth Jones the Sum of Five pounds — Also I Give and bequeath to my Cousin William Jones the Sum of Two pounds and Two Shillings over and above what wages shall be due to him at my decease — Also I Give and bequeath to my servant Ann Prichard the Sum of Ten pounds in lieu of all demands which she may have on me at my decease. And I also Give and bequeath to her the said Ann Prichard the Bed and Bolster in my Little Chamber and the Bedstead in the Hall — Also I Give and bequeath to Mary the Wife of John Williams the Sum of One pound and one shilling — Also I Give and bequeath to my Cosen Thomas Symonds the Sum of Five pounds — Also I Give and bequeath to Thomas Jones of Upper Bullingham in the County of Hereford Weaver the Sum of One pound — I Give and bequeath to the said John Howells my Suit of Black Cloaths And also my Ash coloured Coat — Also I Give and bequeath to my Servant the said William Jones my Suit of Thickset Cloaths — Also I Give and bequeath to the said Ann Prichard one Gown with woosted flowers — Also I Give and bequeath to the said Elizabeth Jones one Yellow Quilted petty-coat — I will and direct that all the above mentioned pecuniary Legacies be paid out of my personal Estate by my Executrix herein after named at the end of Twelve Calendar months next after my decease — I Give and bequeath all the rest and residue of my personal Estate of what nature or Kind soever and where soever after payment of my Debts Funeral Expences and the respective Legacies aforesaid unto the said Ann Howells for and during the Term of her natural life for her own separate use and benefit and not to be Subject to the controul Debts or engagements of her present or any future Husband with whom she may hereafter happen to intermarry. And from and immediately after her decease I Give and bequeath the same unto her Son the said James Howells — I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said Ann Howells sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament — And I revoke all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made and do declare this only to be my last Will and Testament. Proved at Abergavenny on the fifteenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Seventy seven before the Reverend Owen Jenkins, Clerk, Master of Arts, the Chancellor’s Surrogate by Ann Howells (wife of John Howells) the sole executrix in the within written Will named who was first on the holy Evangelists personally sworn well and faithfully to execute the same, to exhibit and inventory &c and to render a just account of her administration thereof when thereunto lawfully required
