Welcome

Ancestors of Lester L. Noll

God Bless America God Bless America

Currently there are four sections in this poor library.  The cemeteries section  contains listings of, at present, three south-eastern Pennsylvania cemeteries, for which I must thank my friend, Patty Gehman. The book indices section contains surname indices to family genealogies. It currently contains a combined index of all the families listed in Counting Kindred, the genealogy of the Christian Deppen family in America. To my great joy, my Noll family married into this Deppen line and much of the genealogy contained in this website comes directly from this book.

The genealogy section contains works that are in some way related to genealogy. The book report section contains synopses of (non-genealogy) books I have recently read.  I am the author of all of the works in the latter two sections and the editor and formatter of those in the first two:  not only is this library poor, it is also cheap.

Genealogy Section

The History of (Recent) Time  describes the introduction of the Gregorian Calendar into the different countries, kingdoms and empires of the world.  It didn't happen everywhere at the same time.  In countries under the control of Great Britain it occurred in 1752 but France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Luxembourg had been using it since 1582 and Greece only adopted it in 1923.  In the year the calendar changed, some number of days were also lost, to make up for the difference in the Gregorian and previous Julian calendar systems.  Birth and death dates may be noted in old style or new style dating format and it may be necessary to know the difference.

Cemetery Section

The following files are available in Microsoft Excel format. If you have Microsoft Excel installed you may click on the links below. To download the Excel file, right click on the Excel link, then select Save Target As and specify a file location.

Cemetery List (file size: 30 K) lists some of the cemetery locations I have explored. It contains addresses and many have GPS latitude and longitude notations. These notations are in degrees and minutes. For example, Schaefferstown cemetery is at N40 18.007 and W76 17.509. That is north 40 degrees, 18.007 minutes and west 76 degrees, 17.509 minutes. These measurements are very exact so they actually pinpoint some location within the cemetery. I entered some of these locations after the fact using the Garmin MapSource software so they may not all be real close. Some of the individual headstones now also have GPS notations with them. This will help in finding them a second or third time. You may also download the Microsoft Excel file Excel File (file size: 32 K).

Denver Fairview Cemetery (file size: 700 K) lists records of the Fairview Cemetery in Denver, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. You may also download the Microsoft Excel file Excel File (file size: 572 K).

Swamp Cemetery (file size: 1.2 M) lists records of the Swamp Cemetery in Blainsport, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. You may also download the Microsoft Excel file Excel File (file size: 358 K).

Old Swamp Cemetery (file size: 132 K) lists records of the Old Swamp Cemetery in Blainsport, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Many of the stones are broken or faded. You may also download the Microsoft Excel file Excel File (file size: 78 K).

H. M. Mellinger, Funeral Director (file size: 2.5 M) lists the records of H. M. Mellinger, Funeral Director, antecedent of the Roseboro Funeral Home, Denver, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, between May 9, 1906 and July 30, 1941. The dates probably denote either the date that family members made arrangements for the dearly departed, perhaps the date of the funeral, or maybe the date final payments were made. In any case, they should give a good target range when looking for newspaper obits. You may also download the Microsoft Excel file Excel File (file size: 496 K).

Book Report Section

I've always been a reader but ask me afterward what a book was about and I'd be hard pressed to be able to tell you. So now, after being away from school for over 30 years, I've discovered the great benefit of doing book reports. And now, if I'm asked what a book was about I just say, "Ah, wait a minute while I call up my web page ... just a minute ..."
