LAND: GALLIA COUNTY, OHIO; 1859; John McFarland deeded land to his son, James McFarland in Gallia County on 14 Oct 1859; Deed Book 30, page 237. COMMENT: John McFarland repeated twice that he was born in Pennsylvania (1850 and 1860 census). Since he is first recorded in Rockbridge County, Virginia (1799 marriage and 1810 census) and later in Bath County, Virginia (1820), and the Rockbridge and Bath county McFarland's came from Pennsylvania sometime in 1778, this evidence would suggest that (1) John was descended from the Rockbridge/Augusta/Bath County McFarland's and (2) his parents were from Pennsylvania, probably Cumberland County (that part now in Franklin County), PA. Only four John McFarlands out of 81 listed of name John were born within 10 years of 1778 in Pennsylvania or place unknown. Two were likely born in Pennsylvania and lived in Virginia in 1800. ****The two are: #### 1.John born probably about 1778 in Cumberland County, PA, probably grandchild or nephew of Robert McFarland who moved to Rockbridge County, VA. NOTES: Since her husband, Andrew, sister, Polly McFarland married a Miller, it must be checked out that possibly the marriage of Andrew and Matilda was later in life, and that her name was actually Matilda MILLER. ===CHILDREN of Andrew McFARLAND and Matilda (or Malinda) _____ 19 [Son] McFARLAND b abt 1827 Virginia(?). + 20 Martha Jane McFARLAND b 1828/1831 Salem Township, Meigs County, Ohio.
