Original Parish Established c1654, was divided into two parishes c 1700 which was known as St. Paul's and Overwharton. The latter is still serving parish and was named after Overwharton Parish Staffordshire, England.
Overwharton Parish was the first parish that we find our Mays ancestors in America. The Aquia Church, built at the time of Benjamin Mays was born in 1757, is just north of Fredericksburg, VA. Overwharton is actually named after Henry Meese's home in Oxfordshire.
