54. Simeon GOSNELL (Ninevah, Morris, Charles, Charles) was born on 28 Oct 1843 in Yancey Co, NC. He died on 23 Jan 1914 in Madison Co, NC. He was buried in In a lone grave, on a hillside of his farm, at his request. Simeon Gosnell enlisted on September 1, 1863. Union Regiment, Company E, 2nd North Carolina Mounted Infantry. During his Civil War service, Private Simeon Gosnell was wounded in the hip and walked with a cane the rest of his life. Simeon married Margaret Stanton FRANKLIN on 8 Feb 1866 in Yancey Co, NC. Margaret was born in 1845 in Yancey Co, NC. She died on 8 Jan 1917 in Madison Co, NC.
She was the widow of Francis Marion Franklin who was killed by Rebel Bushwhackers in 1864 while home in Madion County from his Union Regiment, Company E, 2nd North Carolina Mounted Infantry, the same regiment in which Simeon Gosnell enlisted on September 1, 1863.

He was buried in Gosnell Cemetery, Madison Co, NC on Lonesome Mountain Road. Tillman was a successful farmer, lumber hauler and in partnership with Spencer Gosnell, owner of a grist mill. He operated a General Store on Lonesome Mountain in the early 1900's. He was Deputy Sheriff under the famed Sheriff Jesse James Bailey and aided in efforts to destroy the "moonshine" trade in Madison County.
Tillman married Tennie NORTON on 5 Mar 1891 in Madison Co, NC. Tennie was born on 14 Feb 1872. She died on 12 Jan 1954 in Madison Co, NC. She was buried in Gosnell Cemetery, Madison Co, NC on Lonesome Mountain Road. The daughter of Martin "Dick" Norton and Vinnie. Family traditon says Vinnie was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian, raised by Simeon and Melinda Chandler.

ELVERT MARION ROBERTS, SR., 76, OF 11 BRICKYARD PLACE DIED SATURDAY, MARCH 10, 2001 AT MEMORIAL MISSION HOSPITAL FOLLOWING A LONG ILLNESS.
A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF BUNCOMBE COUNTY, HE RETIRED IN 1983 FROM THE ASHEVILLE V.A. MEDICAL CENTER AFTER 38 YEARS OF SERVICE AS A NURSES AIDE. MR. ROBERTS ATTENDED LOCUST GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH, WAS A VETERAN OF WORLD WAR II AND KOREAN WAR SERVING IN THE U.S. MARINE CORPS. HE WAS AN AVID OUTDOORSMAN AND LOVED TO HUNT AND FISH.
HE WAS THE SON OF THE LATE GUY AND ALMA EMBLER ROBERTS AND WAS ALSO PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS BROTHERS, RALPH, HERMAN, MELVIN AND CLAUDE ROBERTS.
SURVIVING ARE HIS WIFE, GENEVA EVELEEN GOSNELL ROBERTS OF THE HOME; DAUGHTERS, DEBRA KAY ROBERTS OF ASHEVILLE AND LINDA ROBERTS BRISSON OF FAIRVIEW; SONS, ELVERT MARION ROBERTS, JR. OF ASHEVILLE AND BRO. Eugene Sumner, 75, of 9 Sequoia Drive, died Wednesday, November 8, 2006. Born in Buncombe County, N.C., he was the son of the late James Leonard and Robena Hunter Sumner. Mr. Sumner served in the U.S. Army and graduated from Blanton Business College. He retired from Spartan Express. Surviving are his wife of fifty-four years, Leona Daleen Gosnell Sumner of the home; two sons, Wayne Sumner of Pelzer and Rodney Sumner of Tega Cay; a sister, Anne Huffman of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest with visitation from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, West. The family is at the residence.

Christopher Shane Herman, age 28, of Claremont passed away Friday, May 16, 2008 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Born November 18, 1979 in Catawba County, he was the son of Eric Herman and Darla Gosnell Chavero. Mr. Herman worked for W & W Services. He was an avid lover of ball and played ball with the Rejects and other local teams.
