William 'Bill' Fox

William "Bill" Lee Fox, 87, of Lexington Health Care, formerly of Tyro School Road, died Monday, July 16, 2007, at the nursing home after an extended illness.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Victory Baptist Church, where he was a member, by the Rev. Roy Franks. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Fox was born in McDowell County on April 22, 1920, to Derman Fox and Oma Miller Fox. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW Post 3074. Mr. Fox retired from Erlanger Cotton Mill. He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepdaughter, Kathryn Guill.

Surviving are his wife, Dessie Lamb Fox of the home; one stepson, Larry Cosby of Lexington; two sisters, Loraine Fox of Marion and Frankie Duncan and her husband, Warren, of Delaware; five stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, and other times at the home of the stepson on Tyro School Road.

Memorials may be made to Victory Baptist Church General Fund, 2490 N.C. Highway 47, Lexington, NC 27292.

STONY POINT - Ralph Floyd Miller, 71, died unexpectedly Saturday evening at his home here. He had been in declining health for two years. He was born in Alexander County May 22, 1898, to the late Sidney and Nancy Price Miller, and was a retired textile worker. Funeral services will be held at three o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Stony Point Baptist Church, with the Rev. Henry Cook and the Rev. R. H. Hager officiating. Burial will be in Stony Point cemetery. The body will be taken from Adams Funeral Home at Taylorsville to the residence at five o'clock this evening, where it will remain until taken to the church to lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the funeral services. Surviving are his wife, Birchie Vickes Miller; three sons, Thomas H. Miller of Statesville, Sidney L. He was born in Alexander County January 6, 1907, the son of the late John Cleveland Miller and Cordie Payne Miller. He was a retired textile worker and a charter member of Taylorsville Church of God, where he was a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent for over fifty years, Church Clerk, and was also a member of the choir. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Sloope Miller; one sister, Ruby Lonon; six brothers, Arthur, Clarence, Clyde, Ray, Bill and Espie K. Miller; and one granddaughter, Debbie Shook. Survivors include four daughters, Mary Lea Hope of Statesville, Colleen Hammer and husband Kenneth of Taylorsville, Mickie Teague and husband Joe of Hickory, and Rachel Shook and husband Herman of Taylorsville; one grandson, Kenny Hammer of Taylorsville; nine granddaughters, Barbara Overcash, Nancy Cloer, Brenda Sloan, and Maralene Barker, all of Statesville, Janet Mitchell of Taylorsville, Beverly Bryant and Joye Hollar, both of Hickory, Tanya Comer of Taylorsville, and Dana Beach of Hickory; nineteen great-grandchildren; and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. TAYLORSVILLE - Earl Emmitt Miller, 97, of 125 Fifth St., SW, Taylorsville, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at Iredell Memorial Hospital following an illness of one week.

He was born in Alexander County on Jan. 6, 1907, a son of the late John Cleveland and Cordie Payne Miller.

He was a retired textile worker and charter member of Taylorsville Church of God, where he was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent for more than 50 years and church clerk. He also was a member of the choir.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Sloope Miller; one sister, Ruby Lonon; six brothers, Arthur, Clarence, Clyde, Ray, Bill and Espie K. Miller; and one granddaughter, Debbie Shook.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary Lea Hope of Statesville, Colleen Hammer and husband, Kenneth, and Rachel Shook and husband, Herman, all of Taylorsville, and Mickie Teague and husband, Joe, of Hickory; a grandson, Kenny Hammer of Taylorsville; granddaughters, Barbara Overcash, Nancy Cloer, Brenda Sloan and Maralene Barker, all of Statesville, Janet Mitchell and Tanya Comer, both of Taylorsville, and Beverly Bryant, Joye Hollar and Dana Beach, all of Hickory; 19 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

G. Louise Williams Miller (September 29, 1914 - October 4, 2005)

G. Louise Williams Miller of Grand Strand Health Care, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina passed from this life on Tuesday, October 4, 2005. Born in Maiden, North Carolina on September 29, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Jettie and George Williams. She was of the Methodist faith and was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had many friends and will be missed by all who knew her. She made it her life�s work to help other people. She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence E. Miller and her only son, John C. Miller, two sisters, Ira Williams English and Joyce Williams Watkins and a brother, Bandy Williams.

She spent her early adult years working for Cross Cotton Mill, Marion, North Carolina. She and her husband moved to Myrtle Beach in the early sixties where she was a dining room manager for her son-in-law at various restaurants until 1992.

She is survived by two sisters, Alma Williams Workman and Mildred Williams Webb, one daughter, Brenda Miller Arakas and her husband James (Jimmy) Arakas, six grandchildren, Michael Arakas, Joseph (Joey) Arakas, Christopher (Chris) Arakas, Anastasia (Stacy) Arakas Legge, Clint Miller and Brant Miller, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Westmoreland Funeral Home Chapel, Marion, North Carolina at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2005. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park directed by Westmoreland Funeral Home. Myrtle Beach arrangements are being handled by McMillan-Small Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. John�s Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund, 3301 33rd Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina 29577 or to the Charity of one�s choice.

E.K. "Dutch" Miller, 85, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, April 6, 2004, after an extended illness. He was a loving husband to his wife of 58 years, a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Ola David Miller of Nebo; two sons, Gary Hal Miller and his wife, Vicki, of Dallas, Texas and Terry Davis Miller and his wife, Diane, of Charlotte; a daughter, Kay Miller Irvin and her husband, Mike, of Morganton; two grandsons, Terry Davis Miller II and Joseph Miller Irvin; two granddaughters, Holly Miller Duke and Ehrin Morgan Irvin; two great-granddaughters, Sloan and Sutton Duke; and one brother, Earl Miller of Taylorsville.

Dutch was an active member of First Baptist Church of Nebo for over 50 years. He served as a Sunday school teacher, song leader, Deacon, Treasurer and on many other committees. He retired from Durham Life Insurance Company after 35 years of service. He supported his community through many volunteer positions, including coaching the Teenage League Baseball team for 15 years. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Marine Corps.

The funeral service will be held at 11 .am. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Nebo. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mary Lea Miller Hope, 79, of Wilkesboro Hwy., Statesville, died Saturday, June 16, 2007, at her home. Born in Alexander County April 22, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Earl Emmitt Miller and Elsie Mae Sloop Miller. She attended Alexander County Schools and was a retired beautician and homemaker. Mrs. Hope was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and was a member of the Red Hatters. She enjoyed camping, knitting, and quilting. She married William Gill (Bill) Hope July 9, 1945, who preceded her in death November 23, 1995.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great- granddaughter, Anna Marie Sheets.

Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Overcash and husband Monroe, Nancy Cloer and husband Sonny, Brenda Sloan and husband Lynn, and Marlene Barker and husband Allen, all of Statesville; grandchildren, Kevin Hope, David, Doyle, Darrell, Danny, and Donnie Summers, Suzanne Smith-Sharpe, Jennifer Cloer, Chris and Randy Sloan, Jamie Sheets, and Kristy and Kory Miller; great-grandchildren, Jason Summers, Travis and Tanner Summers, Morgan Summers, Jadyn Summers, Taylor Ann Summers, Christopher Smith, Devan Black, Amber Sharpe, Victoria Sloan, Austin Sloan, Claudia Hope, Connor Hope, Keagan Torrence, and Emma Grace Sheets; and three sisters, Collene Hammer and Rachel Shook, both of Taylorsville, and Mickie Teague of Hickory.

Services celebrating Mrs. Hope's life were conducted Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Eades and Rev. Mitchell Rash officiating. Burial followed in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers included David, Doyle, Darrell, Danny, and Donnie Summers, Jamie Sheets, Randy Sloan, and Kory Miller. Honorary pallbearers included Donavon Campbell, Wayne Sharp, Chris Smith, and Kevin Hope.
