The Loxton's in the United Kingdom

Information is still being compiled for this page.

1821
Ann Loxton, Guilty of the crime of being a Single woman now with child
... she was 7 months pregnant with Albert Rich, my great Grandfather.

The Justices of the Peace in North Wootton (a few miles South of Wells) directed the Churchwardens of North Wootton Parish to remove Ann from their Parish and return her to the Parish where she had last resided, St Cuthbert's, in the same County of Wells.

North Wootton Church near Wells, Somerset, England
St Cuthbert's church is located right in the heart of Wells , Somerset, just around the corner from the Wells Post Office. It is the church where many of the Loxton family worshiped and celebrated births and weddings and said good bye to the departed. Chances are strong that the Ann (unwed mother) and Ann (born 1800) are one and the same.

"FORASMUCH as Complaint hath been made unto us, whose names are hereunto set and seals affixed, being two of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and for the said County of Somerset, and one of us being of the Quorum, by you the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of North Wootton in the said County of Somerset, That Ann Loxton - a Singlewoman now with child hath intruded herself into the said Parish of North Wootton endeavoring there to settle as an Inhabitant thereof, not having in any way acquired or obtained a legal Settlement therein, and is actually become chargeable to the said Parish of North Wootton.
