She was baptised on the 21st.¹ She moved to at Engebok, Karlskoga Parish, Örebro County, Sweden, in 1814. She moves back to Kysund Parish the following year..² Anna was not found on the Clerical Survey for Rudskoga Parish in 1826.³ She resided, at Kritinehamn Parish, Värmland County, Sweden, before 1829. The 1829 - 1834 Clerical Survey Record indicates that she is living there at the beginning of the period, although there is no record of her in the previous Clerical Survey. Only Erland, who is not identified by surname is living with Anna. They move within the parish in 1831, but return to orginal location in 1833. The locations are identified by number only. The residence is probably furnished by a factory for its laborers.⁴ She appeared on the church records of Kristinehamn Parish, Värmland County, Sweden, between 1841 and 1845. Erland is shown living with his mother untel he leaves in 1843.⁵ She died on 25 December 1874 at Kristinehamn Parish at age 76 She died of tubercuiosis. She was buried on 1 Jan 1875.⁶

She and August Magnusson appeared on the church records of Lervik, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden, between 1881 and 1882. August made application to move oversease to Amerika 15 Mar 1881. His family accompanied his parents in 1882.¹ She married August Magnusson, son of Magnus Magnusson and Cajsa Stina Gustafsdotter, on 6 March 1881 at Väse, Värmland, Sweden. Caroline Larson immigrated in 1882 to Varna, Marshall County, Illinois, with son Oliver, and her husbands family. Caroline died on 29 December 1929 at Varna, Marshall Co., IL, at age 71. Her body was interred at Swedish Cemetery, Varna, Marshall County, Illinois.²

     Lars Larsson Fröding married Karen Andersdotter.¹ Lars Larsson Fröding died on 16 April 1711 at Uddevalla Parish, Göteborg and Bohus County, Sweden.²

     Eric was born on 15 September 1803 at at Säfsjön, Nysund Parish, Örebro County, Sweden.¹ He moved in 1821 away from home.²

     Johan was born on 28 December 1789 at at Säfsjön, Nysund Parish, Örebro County, Sweden.² He moved away from home in 1808 and returned in 1810. This may have been his required military service.³ He married Anna Larsdotter in 1812 at Nysund Parish, Örebro County, Sweden.⁴ Johan Larsson and Anna Larsdotter appeared on the church records of Säfsjön, Nysund Parish, Örebro County, between 1813 and 1816. Johan and his family are living on the same farm with his father.⁵

She married Carl Gustaf Magnusson, son of Magnus Magnusson and Cajsa Stina Gustafsdotter, on 23 September 1882 at Varna, Marshall County, Illinois.² Sophia Amelia Ekstrom moved circa 1885 at Nebraska He farmed there for about 5 years, and then moved to Oklahoma. (Details to be included.). Sophia died on 8 March 1905 at Pond Creek, Grant County, Oklahoma, at age 45. Her body was interred at Pond Creek Cemetery, Grant County, Oklahoma.

     Marjorie Rose Lass was born on 11 August 1925.¹ She married Arthur Roland Extrom, son of Harry Arthur Extrom and Frances Goodyear Fincham, on 7 March 1946.¹ Marjorie Rose Extrom and Arthur Roland Extrom had no children.² Marjorie Rose Lass died in May 1995 at LaGrange, Cook County, Illinois, at age 69.²

     He married Inga Maja Olsson on 22 April 1888 at Öjervik, Sunne Parish, Värmland County, Sweden. The couple move to their own house nearby in Ojervik two days later.¹

     Jacob Herman Löfman was born in 1753 at Råda Parish, Värmland County, Sweden.¹ He married Englelborg Moblad, daughter of Daniel Moblad and Eva Catharina Fröding, on 9 April 1778 at Säfsnäs Parish, Kopparberg County, Sweden.² Jacob Herman Löfman and Englelborg Moblad appeared on the church records of Grangesberg, Grangärde Parish, Kopparberg County, Sweden, between 1785 and 1791. They move to Fågelvik on 14 Apr 1791.³ Jacob Herman Löfman and Englelborg Moblad lived between 1794 and 1799 at Lund, Östra Fägelvik Parish, Värmland County, Sweden, Niece Eva Maria Öjebom is living with them.      Kerstin Magnusdotter was born in 1735.¹ She married Olof Wistman circa 1763.¹ Kerstin Magnusdotter died on 27 October 1782 at Östra Ämtervik Parish, Värmland County, Sweden.¹

     Marja Magnusdotter was born on 9 August 1787 at Ryholm, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden.¹ Marja was employed at as a maid at Hammar, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden, in 1811. She returns to her parents' home in 1815.² She married Magnus Pärsson, son of Pehr Mansson and Cajsa Eriksdotter, on 25 September 1820 at Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden. Magnus was living at Hammar and Marja was living at Hammargrinden.³ Marja Magnusdotter and Magnus Pärsson appeared on the church records of Lindås, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden, between 1831 and 1835. Magnus's wife Maria and son Erland both die during the period.^4,5 Marja died on 26 March 1835 at Väse, Värmland, Sweden, at age 47. Her age on the death register is given as 43 years. She died of a fever..^6,7 She was buried on 4 May 1835.⁶

D. 1934, intestate; that the said Andrew Ekstrom was married once and only once and then to Emma Gustafson, who departed this life September 14th, 1933; that there were born of this marriage eight and only children, namely: Edith, Ada, Pearl, Alfred, Everett, Bessie, Edith, and Gladys; that the said first above Edith Ekstrom departed this life in early infancy, unmarried and childless; and long prior to the death of her said father; that Ada is married to Arthur Peterson and lives with her husband at Lostant, Illinois; that Pearl is married to Joseph Stenzel and lives with her husband, whose Post Office address is Rutland, Illinois; that Alfred Ekstrom is a bachelor and lives in Peoria / Illinois at 1026 North Glendale Ave; that Everett Ekstrom, this affiant, is married to Ardell Boshell, and lives with his wife at Rutland, Illinois; that Bessie is married to William Smith, and lives with her husband at Minonk, Illinois; that Edith is married to Edgar Duden, and lives with her husband at Dana, Illinois; that Gladys is married to Max Rauscher and lives with her said husband at 7550 Blackstone Avenue, Chicago, Illinois.

August Ekstrom
Funeral services for August Ekstrom, 88, were conducted Thursday, April 15, at 1:30 p.m., at the house and at 2 o'clock at the First Lutheran Church, the Rev. Paul V. Nelson, pastor of the church, officiating. A quintette composed of Rev. and Mrs. Nelson, daughters, Lorraine, and Ruth, and John Boose, sang "Under His Wing." "Beyond the Sunset" was sung by Pastor and Mrs. Nelson. Miss Florence Gustafson accompanied both numbers. Mrs. Nelson sang a Swedish song at the home.
There were many beautiful floral offerings, as well as monetary gifts to the Bethphage Mission at Axtell, Neb. The pall bearers were Mauritz Stromgren, Jalmer Hultgren, Clarence Nott, Ed Benson, Ralph Gustafson and Herbert Extrom. Burial was made in the family lot at Salem Cemetery.
Mr. Ekstrom was born in the village of Vasa, Varmland County, Sweden, July 19, 1859. He was born on one of the many islands in that county, on a small farm, and as he grew up he assisted his father in that line of work, which he continued to follow after arriving in America in 1882.
In 1881 he was married to Caroline Larson, who with their first son arrived in America a year later. The child died shortly after their arrival. Their second son, Albert, age 11, died in 1896. Mr. Ekstrom worked on farms near LaRose for a time, moving to Magnolia, where he attended school for a year, laying the foundation for his knowledge in English. In a few years he started farming on his own account in the vicinity of LaRose, later moving near Magnolia and finally to a farm about six miles west of Varna, where he lived until he retired in 1914. Since retirement he has resided on Walnut Street, across from the Varna Grade School. After his wife died, December 29, 1929, his daughter, Anna, has kept house and cared for him.
While in better health, before retirement, he served several years as director of the Lacon State Bank at Lacon. He was also a director of the Tax School, Hopewell Township and after moving to Varna was a member of the Town Board a number of years. He was a faithful member of the First Lutheran Church, serving as deacon many years and at one time taught a Sunday School class.
HIs health had not been the best for some years and last February he was taken to the Methodist Hospital in Peoria, where he was a surgical patient for three weeks. The last six weeks he was tenderly cared for in his home by his three daughters, until his passing Monday, April 12, 1948, at 12:45 noon.
Surviving him are three daughters, Anna, Mrs. Maude Hultgren and Mrs. Signe Nelson, all of Varna and George of Madison, Wis; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was the last of a family of four brothers and one sister.
Relatives and friends from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. George Extrom, Madison, Wis; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Ekstrom and Miss Minnie Falk, Peoria; Mrs. Nancy Harpestad, Metamora; Mr. and Mrs. Milton Hultgren, Kewanee; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stencel and daughter, Marjorie, Rutland; Mrs. Ray McFadden, Streator; Mr. and Mrs. Athur Peterson, Mrs. Ellen Olson, Mrs. Minnie Mulvihill, Wenona; Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Broddus, Ansel Hexter and Joe Allen of Lacon; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Modro and Forrest Hoffstetter, Toluca.. His body was interred on 15 April 1948 at Swedish Cemetery, Varna, Marshall County, Illinois.¹⁰
In the Marshall County Court in Probate proceedings filed 26 Apr 1948, was the Order Declaring Heirship of the Estate of August Ekstrom. The order reads: Now on this day this cause coming on for hearing on the application of Oliver B. Extrom for an order finding and declaring the heirship of the above named deceased, and the Court having heard the evidence offered in support thereof and being now fully advised in the premises, doth find:
     1. That August Ekstrom departed this life on the 12 day of April, 1948, at Varna, Illinois, leaving a Last Will and Testament. That at the time of his death, he was legally domiciled in the Village of Varna, Marshall County, Illinois.
     2. That he was married once and only once; his wife predeceasing him. That of said marriage there were born the following named children: Oliver B. Extrom, George P. Extrom, Anna E. Extrom, Maude Hultgren and Signe Nelson, all of whom survive and are of lawful age and under no legal disability. That no other child or children were born of said marriage and that said decedent never adopted any child or children but left him surviving as his sole and only heirs at law his five children above named.
     That the family name was always spelled EKSTROM and was so signed and used by the decedent in his entire life. That for some unexplained reason, when the children started attending public school the spelling of their name was changed to EXTROM and as such has been followed and used by said children as their name all their respective lives, but that the children above named with their names spelled as such, are the legally born children and the sole and only heirs at law of the above named decedent.
IT IS, THEREFORE, ORDERED, ADJUDGED AND DECREED BY THE COURT that the five children above named, who are al of lawful age and under no legal disability, are hereby found and declared to be the sole and only heirs at law of August Ekstrom, deceased. /s/ D M Gregg / Judge.¹¹

     Carl Gustaf Magnusson was born on 29 December 1849 at Hoflanda, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden, son of Magnus Magnusson and Cajsa Stina Gustafsdotter; He was baptised on Jan 1, 1850.^2,3 Carl Gustaf Magnusson appeared on the church records of Hoflanda, Väse, between 1866 and 1870.⁴ He and Johan Magnusson appeared on the church records of Hoflanda, Väse, between 1871 and 1875. Carl left for America and Johan moved in 1873.⁵ Carl immigrated on 22 September 1871. From Väse he went to the Port of Gotëborg where on September 29, 1871 he was transported on to Hull, England, by land to Liverpool and again by ship to Boston. How and when he moved to Illinois is unknown..⁵

Oklahoma, no profession..¹² Carl died on 4 April 1933 at Pond Creek, Grant County, Oklahoma, at age 83.¹³ His body was interred at Pond Creek Cemetery, Grant County, Oklahoma. Charles Ekstrom is believed to be the first of his family to immigrate to this country. He left his son Gust who was born 3 April 1871 in Sweden. Gust's mother died at an early age and he was raised by his paternal grandparents. His daughter Nettie said her father had no memories of his mother and did not know her name. It is probable that Gust's mother had died before Charles came to the USA. He applied for citizenship on 27 Oct 1877 and was granted citizenship on 27 Aug 1880 at Lacon, Marshall Co., IL. He returned to Sweden in the early1880s but returned to Illinois in 1882 with his son Gust and others. Tradition says that seven came together. This may have been Charles, Gust, Charles parents, his brothers August and Andrew and Charles wife to be Sophia Larsen. Gust although only eleven remembered the day they arrived at his Uncle John Peter's home in Varna, IL as June 29, 1882 because it was the day his cousin Ellen Extrom was born. In a biography of August Extrom it is stated that he emigrated to North America on May 26, 1882 and his wife and son arrived later. In 188? Charles moved his family to Nebraska. Whether he went with his brother John Peter or followed is not known. Some of his children were born there with at least the twins Dell and Bell born in the same sod house as John Peter's twins Maude and Harry. John Peter returned to Illinois before 1894. Charles did not return but moved to Oklahoma Territory at the same time and remained there until his death. At least his son Gust returned to Illinois instead of going with his father's family.

     Erland was born on 6 October 1828 on a farm called an unknown place . He was christened the next day.¹ Erland died on 25 May 1834 at Lindås, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden, at age 5.² He was buried on 1 June 1834.²

     Hindrick was born on 29 April 1801 at Hammargrinden, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden. He was christened on May 3.¹

     Jan Petter Magnusson was born on 20 November 1855 at Hoflanda, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden. He was christened on the 25th.¹ He and Christina Moblad appeared on the church records of No. 168 Staden, Karlstad, Värmland County, Sweden, between 1877 and 1880. There are 100 people living at this address, including about 25 families with about 25 children. It appears there are about 35 apartments in the building. Christina is living with 6 other females and Peter is living with two other men. There is also a Gustaf Moblad, not further identified, living there.² Jan Petter Magnusson emigrated on 23 February 1880 from Karlstad, Värmland County, Sweden,The ship and route that he took has not been found. He is not the J P Magnusson age 24 who travels from Gotenburg to Fredrikshamn, Denmark, on the ship Avanti, as this one has a wife and 6 month old son.

He married Christina Moblad, daughter of Erland Moblad and Kajsa Olsdotter, on 4 November 1881 at Varna, Marshall County, Illinois. They were married by G. O. Gustafson, Minister of the Swedish Lutheran Church in Varna.⁴
Peter farmed near Magnolia until 1883 when he moved the family to a farm on the outskirts of Loomis, Phelps County, Nebraska. A census listed John as head of household on 18 June 1885 at Centre Township, Phelps County, Nebraska. 1885 State of Nebraska Agriculture Census. The census shows that Peter was renting for a share of the products, was farming 100 acres of improved land and 60 other acres. The farm land and buildings were valued at $2500; farm implements were valued at $800, and livestock at $500. Estimated value of all farm products for 1884 was $500. There were 2 horses, one milk cow, which had been purchased in 1884, and one calf. Fifty pounds of butter had been made in 1884. There were no sheep on the farm, but there were 44 swine and 24 head of poultry which had produced 100 dozen eggs. Crops grown in 1884 were 28 acres of Indian corn producing 700 bushel, 10 acres of oats producing 200 bushel, 30 acres of wheat producing 578 bushel and 10 acres of broom corn producing 4000 pounds.⁵ He is listed in the Nebraska Gazetteer Business Directory and farmer list for 1890 - 1891 for Kearney County as being in Minden.⁶ John was listed as the head of a family on the 1900 Census at Evans Township, Marshall County, Illinois. Peter Extrom, aged 90, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ellen Olson, Tuesday morning at 7:15 o'clock, of old age and complications. He had been in failing health for some time.
He was a son of the late Magnus and Stina Extrom and was born in Varmland, Sweden, November 20, 1855. He came to the United States in 1879 and located in the vicinity of Varna. On November 4, 1881, he was united in marriage with Miss Christina Moblad, and to this union 9 children were born, Ellen Olson, Wenona; Selma Swanson, Saskatchewan, Canada; Charles, Salem; Harry, Downers Grove; Maude Snyder, Storm Lake, Iowa; William, Chicago; Mabel McFadden, Streator; Berdie Marland, Dwight; Lloyd, Los Angeles, California.
Following his marriage, they resided for a few years near Magnolia, then moved to Nebraska, where he engaged in farming for 9 years. Returning to Illinois he located in Munster where he also engaged in farming for 25 years. In 1919 he retired and moved to Wenona, where he has since resided.
He was preceded in death by his wife 20 years ago and by three brothers Charles, John and Andrew, and one sister, Louise.
He is survived by his children, 32 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren, and one brother, August, of Varna.
Funeral services are being held today (Thursday) at 2:30 o'clock from the Bethany Lutheran church of which he was a member. Rev. Kenneth Farb of Peoria, a former local pastor, officiating. Two songs were sung, "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages" by Edwin Lindgren, with Miss Blanche Lindgren at the organ.
Burial took place in the Wenona cemetery. Pall bearers were grandsons of Mr. Extrom. Friends and relatives attended from Varna, Streator, Dwight, Chicago, Downers Grove, Moline, Peoria, Salem and Storm Lake, Iowa.^11,12

His body was interred on 14 March 1946 at Swedish Cemetery, Wenona, LaSalle County, Illinois.

     Johan Magnusson was born on 9 October 1852 at Lervik, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden. He was christened on the 17th.¹ He and Carl Gustaf Magnusson appeared on the church records of Hoflanda, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden, between 1871 and 1875. Carl left for America and Johan moved in 1873.² John immigrated, on 6 April 1881. He left from the Göteborg port by the steamship "Mursdin" for Hull, England. His brother August accompanied him. There they traveled overland to Liverpool where they boarded the steamship "City of Rome" for the trip to New York City. They arrived on April 23, 1881..^3,4 He was naturalized on 20 September 1886 at Lacon, Marshall County, Illinois. His surname was spelled Ekstrom on the form.⁵ He married Malinda Gorby, daughter of Thomas Wilson Gorby and Cynthia Wade, on 26 February 1888 at Varna, Marshall County, Illinois.⁶ John was listed as the head of a family on the 1900 Census at Evans Township, Marshall County, Illinois.      Lars was born on 26 September 1804 at Hammargrinden, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden. He was christened on the 27th.¹

     Magnus Magnusson was New Tag between 1821 and 1830. He was born on 3 May 1821 at Lindås, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden.¹ He married Cajsa Stina Gustafsdotter on 27 July 1849 at Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden. He was listed as living in Lund, while Kajsa was living in Hoflanda.² Magnus Magnusson and Cajsa Stina Gustafsdotter appeared on the church records of Hoflanda Lervik, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden, between 1871 and 1875. Jan Peter leaves home in Nov 1873 followed by his brother August in Oct 1875. They still live within the parish. Johan returns home 4 Nov 1873 but leaves again in 1875.³ Magnus Magnusson immigrated on 26 May 1882 to Varna, Marshall County, Illinois. Magnus, wife Kajsa, daughter Anna Lovisa and son Anders, accompanied by son Carl and his son Gustaf, and daughter-in-law Karolina Johansdotter, wife of August, and son Karl Ferdinand left Väse on or shortly after May 26, 1882. They traveled to Gothenburg, where the boarded the steamship "Argo" which departed for Hull, England on June 9, 1882. They probably arrived at Hull, England on the 11th, as it was a two day journey across the North Sea. They moved overland, probably by railroad to Liverpool, England. There they boarded the steamship "City of Rome" for the Atlantic Ocean crossing to New York. They arrived at the New York Port on June 26, 1882. Carl's future wife Sophia Larsson was also on the "City of Rome" and probably had accompanied the group from Gothenburg. The ship's manifest does not appear to list Magnus's daughter-in-law and her son, nor does it list Carl's son Gustaf. Years later Gustaf recalled to his daughter Nettie that seven of them arrived at Peter Extrom's home on the 29th of June, 1882. As Karolina and her son would of went to her husband's home, the seven could have been Magnus, Kajsa, Anna Louisa, Anders, Carl, Gustaf and Sophia Larsson. Gustaf although only eleven at the time clearly recalled the date as it was the day that Peter's first child Ellen was born. He and Cajsa Stina Gustafsdotter immigrated on 26 May 1882 to Varna, Marshall Co., IL. Magnus died on 3 July 1901 at Wenona, Marshall County, Illinois, at age 80.⁴ His body was interred at Swedish Cemetery, Varna, Marshall County, Illinois.⁵

     Olof was born on 15 August 1794 at Hammargrinden, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden. He was christened on the 16th.¹

     Sven was born on 20 April 1789 at Hammargrinden, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden. He was christened on the 21st.¹

     Maria Mallsdotter was born in 1743.¹ She married Nils Nilsson, son of Nils Errsson and Margareta Hallorsdotter, circa 1772.¹ Maria Mallsdotter and Nils Nilsson appeared on the church records of Björkhöjden, Bjurtjän Parish, Värmland County, Sweden, between 1775 and 1780. Nils and wife Maria return to his father's household by 1775 with daughter Maria. The daughter dies but two sons are born during the time.¹

     Ingeborg Mansdotter was born in 1743 at Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden.¹

     Ingre Mansdotter was born in 1741 at Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden.¹

     Maria Mansdotter was born in 1751 at Mällby, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden.¹

     Pehr Mansson was born on 21 July 1745 at Mällby, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden, son of Måns Pehrsson and Karin Johansdotter. He married Cajsa Eriksdotter, daughter of Erik Ragvaldsson and Ingiärd Olofsdotter, on 26 June 1774 at Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden.² Pehr Mansson and Cajsa Eriksdotter appeared on the church records of Väse, Värmland, Sweden, between 1782 and 1786. The survey shows Mangus and Cajsa family and four oldest children. It indicates that the family moves to Goranstorp. The survey at Goranstorp shows the family and the addition of daughter Anna along with the death of son Mangus. Daughter Joan is not shown.³ He resided on a farm called Görantorp, at Väse, Värmland, Sweden. Pehr died in 1801 at Göranstorp, Väse Parish, Värmland County, Sweden.⁴
