Bogart Genealogy from Holland to Kingston, Ulster County, New York

Vianen is a district in the eastern province of South Holland. Its principal city is Vianen, on the river Leck, 7 miles southwest of Utrecht.

The river Leck is actually known as Lek. Lek (river), is an extension of the Neder Rijn (Lower Rhine) River, flowing westward through the Netherlands and emptying into the North Sea. The Neder Rijn, which is formed when the Rhine forks near Milligen, becomes known as the Lek as it passes near the town of Wijk bij Duurstede in Utrecht Province. It merges with the Noord River 10 km (6 mi) east of Rotterdam to form the Nieuwe Maas River. Navigable along its entire course, the Lek is a main link in the extensive river system that connects inland central Europe with the Netherlands coast. Cities in the Netherlands and Germany are connected to Rotterdam by the Nieuwe Maas, the Lek, the Neder Rijn, and the Rhine, which together constitute one river extending 1,100 km (700 mi) from its source in the Swiss Alps to its mouth. A canal called the Nieuwe Waterweg (New Waterway) extends from Rotterdam to the sea and flushes away the silt at the outlet of the Lek.
