LOIS KING FAIR of Marion died Friday at Johnson-Hobson Health Care in Marion. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. today at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home-West Memphis had charge of services. Mrs. Fair, 93, a homemaker, was a member of Marion First United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Harley A. Fair and Lawrence P. King. Mrs. Fair leaves two daughters, Josephine Carlson and Nancy Ragsdale, both of Marion; a son, H. Andrew Fair of Little Rock; a stepson, Morris Fair of Memphis, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to Marion First United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

MORRIS HARLEY FAIR of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of West Memphis, died Wednesday in Memphis. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel in Memphis. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral with burial in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. Mr. Fair, 74, was dedicated to public service throughout his life. When living in West Memphis, he was an active member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church and Meadowbrook Country Club and served the community in numerous ways. After moving to Memphis, Mr. Fair served on the Boy Scouts of America Executive Committee, Shelby County Board of Commissioners, Chickasaw Basin Authority, Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau and also served as a member of the Trinity Health Care Advisory Board. Mr. Fair leaves his wife, Diane Fair; four sons, Ronnie Fair of Heber Springs and Greg Fair, Lance Fair and Jason Fair, all of Memphis, and five grandsons and two great-granddaughters. The family requests that memorials be sent to Holy Cross Episcopal Church in West Memphis or the University of Arkansas Alumni Foundation, Morris Fair Scholarship Fund, P.O. DORTHY "GRANNY" FARR of Proctor died Sunday at Crittenden Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Roller-Citizens Chapel with burial following in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. Mrs. Farr, 83, a homemaker was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School class at West Memphis First Baptist Church for 50 years. She leaves a daughter-in-law, Linda Farr of Proctor; one grandson, Charles Farr of Proctor and two great-grandsons. The family requests that memorials be sent to West Memphis First Baptist Church.

"PUD" WALTER WILLIS FARRIS, 84, of West Memphis died Jan. 27, 2002, in Memphis.  Born Aug. 21, 1917, in Ash Flat, he was the son of Allen G. Farris and Minnie Lee Overton Farris. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sue Farris; a sister, Clara Paysinger of Salem; three stepchildren - Leon, Sherry and Martha; and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Bill Farris; and a sister, Bessie Ann White. The funeral was Jan. 29 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel in West Memphis with Gary Hair officiating. Burial followed in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion.

JENNIE LEE FLOYD, 90, of West Memphis, cafeteria worker for West Memphis School District, died Tuesday at her home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis with burial in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in West Memphis. Mrs. Floyd, the widow of W. T. Floyd, leaves two daughters, Cordelia Lee of Tyronza, Ark., and Janelle Stewart of West Memphis; six sons, Milton Floyd, Ellis Floyd and Delmer Floyd, all of West Memphis, Bobby Floyd of Jonesboro, Ark., Elmer Floyd of Marion and Lavelle Floyd of Conway, Ark.; a sister, Maybell Haynes of Dumas, Miss., 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. JAMES ROBERT FOGARTY, 69, of Heth, Ark., retired supervisor for the Postal Service after 26 years, died Thursday at his home. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in West Memphis, where he was a communicant, with burial in Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery in Marion. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis has charge. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Laon Air Police Association and National Association of Letter Carriers. Mr. Fogarty, the husband of Jean Fogarty, also leaves three daughters, Cynthia Lucento of Kaiserslautern, Germany, Julia Ferguson of Casper, Wyo., and Melanie Fisher of Heth; a sister, Mary Samantha 'Sue' Meachum of Walls; a brother, Troy Wayne Fogarty of Bullhead City, Ariz., seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. Mr. Fowler, 81, a retired retail manager for Sears in West Memphis, was a member of Hughes Presbyterian Church, a World War II Army veteran and past commander of VFW Post 5225. Mr. Fowler, the widower of Dottie Fowler, leaves two sons, Craig Fowler of Heth and Wally Fowler of Marion, and three grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to the American Heart Association.

MRS. BRENDA JOYCE LEWIS FRANKLIN, age 57, of West Memphis, died Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. Mrs. Franklin was a survey nurse for the Department of Human Services and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Bill Franklin of West Memphis; one daughter, Julie Ingram of Brighton, Tenn.; two step-daughters, Carmen Wheeler of Southaven, Miss. and Jenai Franklin of Arlington, Texas; one son, Bernie Lewis of Memphis; one step-son, Brock Franklin of Southaven, Miss.; two sisters, Zelma Smith and Thelma Woods both of Forrest City; two brothers, Fred Bowman of Eugene, Ore., and W.D. Bowman of Boise, Idaho, and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both her parents, Floyd E. and Oma F. Bowman and a brother, T.A. Bowman. Funeral services for Mrs. Franklin will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis. Burial will follow in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion.

Mrs. Franks, 98, a retired writer for the Evening Times, The Commercial Appeal, The Memphis Press Scimitar and the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, was the oldest member of Earle Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the Town and Country Garden Club and The Happy Hour Club. Mrs. Franks, the widow of Grady N. Franks, leaves two daughters, Sue Ann Elms of Earle and Ardelle Gennings of Jonesboro, ten grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. LEONA GERTRUDE FRANKS, 93, of West Memphis, mother of Nelda Dean of Greenbrier, died Monday (Feb. 26, 2001) at Crittenden Memorial Hospital.  Born May 13, 1907, in Corinth, Miss., a daughter of the late John and Callie Stewart Morgan, she was a housewife and a member of the Church of Christ in Corinth. She was the widow of Grady Franks.  Other survivors are two other daughters, Betty Downey of West Memphis and Rachel Henson of Hinesville, Ga.; a son, Robert Earl Franks of Memphis; and three sisters, Leotie Plaxico of Corinth, Ruby Merryman of Hornbeak, Tenn., and Birdie Mae Fulks of Marked Tree (Poinsett County). Funeral services were Thursday (March 1) at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis with Bob Warford officiating. Burial was in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion.

He leaves a daughter, Sydney Maryam Franks of Jonesboro; his parents, Curtis and Betty Franks of Tyronza; a sister, Maggie Franks of Tyronza; a brother, Andy Franks of Lepanto; and his grandparents, Joe and Bettye Bramucci of Earle. MARY FRENCH FULLWOOD, 93, of Searcy, formerly of Earle, died Monday, Jan. 13, at her home. Born at Harrisburg, she served as head teller and vice president of Earle State Bank for many years before her retirement. She was a longtime member of the Earle Baptist Church, where she served as organist and pianist. She was a member of the music and garden clubs at Earle for a number of years before moving to Searcy about three years ago. She has no immediate survivors. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward "Jimmy" Fullwood; and her parents, Charles Richard and Mel Albright French. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Earle Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery at Marion. Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of Wynne is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Earle Baptist Church or First Baptist Church in Searcy.

ROBERT ARTHUR GAMMILL SR., 87, of Tyronza died Thursday, Aug. 11, at NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro. A retired farmer, he was a member of Whitton Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Clara Bullard Gammill of the home; a son, Robert "Bobby" Gammill Jr., of Tyronza; a sister, Ora E. Heindale of Tulsa, Okla.; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher Carlos and Oneita Sharp Gammill. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis, with Tim Mills officiating. Burial will be in the Crittenden Memorial Park at Marion. Active pallbearers will be Greg Jackson, Andy Jackson, Kenneth Gammill, Michael Gene Gammill, Greg Heindale and Eric Heindale. Honorary pallbearers will include Billy Ingle, Chauncey Ingle, Leslie Price Jr., Jerry Price, Robert A. Jackson and Frank Waggoner. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Local businessman JOE GARRETT, 80, dies . Long-time West Memphis businessman Joseph "Joe" E. Garrett of Memphis died Wednesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital East. He was 80. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home-West Memphis. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Roller-Citizens Chapel with burial following in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. Mr. Garrett, owner and operator of Garrett Hardware Co., was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, past State Commander of Arkansas VFW and past commander of Post 5225 Marion and West Memphis VFW and a World War II Army veteran. He served in the Pacific Theater and received three bronze stars. He was also a member of the local American Legion Post and in 1963 was the All American Commander of the VFW. Mr. Garrett leaves his wife, Elisabeth Garrett; a son, Joseph E. Garrett Jr. of Memphis; a brother, Ernest E. "Boe" Garrett of West Memphis and a grandchild.

Ms. Gates, 61, a retired LPN from Crittenden Memorial Hospital, was the church historian at Victory Church of the Mid-South in West Memphis and was a health care and nursing home volunteer. She leaves two daughters, Libby Jackson and Ronda Jackson, both of Marion; two sons, Nils Foster of Missouri and Mark Foster of West Memphis; a sister, Harriett Wright of Memphis and six grandchildren. EZEKIEL CANDLER “E. C., TOOK” GATHINGS, US Arkansas Representative, b. November 10, 1903  d. May 2, 1979, a Representative from Arkansas; born in Prairie, Monroe County, Miss., November 10, 1903; attended the public schools and the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa; was graduated from the law department of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1929; was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced practice in Helena, Ark.; moved to West Memphis, Ark., in 1932 and continued the practice of law; served in the State senate 1935-1939; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-sixth and to the fourteen succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1939-January 3, 1969); was not a candidate for reelection in 1968 to the Ninety-first Congress; resumed the practice of law; served as a member of West Memphis, Ark., Port Authority; resided in West Memphis, Ark., where he died May 2, 1979; interment in Crittenden Memorial Park, Marion, Ark.

Mr. Gibbs, 72, a retired Earle police officer, was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas, and an Army and Air Force veteran. He was the widower of Charlene Gibbs. ATWOOD "A.E." GILSON was born in New York to mother Anna ?  and father Clyde.  Atwood was the husband of Bronnie Lou (Meeks) Gilson of Tenille, Ga.  They resided in Marion, Arkansas for many years before and at the time of their deaths.  Atwood also attended and was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church on Missouri St.  in West Memphis.  He was also a Free Mason.  He was initiated February 3, 1977.  He was still a member when he passed April 3, 1993.  Atwood left behind one son, Clyde Gilson.  Also left behind were his two grandchildren Clyde Atwood "Woody" Gilson the 2nd and Courtney Gilson.  Bronnie and Atwood are missed dearly by both family and friends.

BRONNIE LOU GILSON was born in Tenille, Georgia to Ollie (Hooks) Meeks and James Albert Meeks Sr.  Bronnie's sisters and brothers include Margaret Meeks, Doris Meeks, Genine Meeks, Billy Meeks, and James Abert Meeks Jr.  Bronnie was the wife of A.E. Gilson.  She resided in Marion, Arkansas at the time of her death.  She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church on Missouri St. in West Memphis.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star affiliated with Robert E. Spillman #550 in West Memphis from a chapter in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 16, 1973.  She also served as Worthy Grand Matron.  She left behind one son, Clyde Atwood Gilson.  She also left behind two grandchildren, Clyde Atwood Gilson the 2nd and her "star," Courtney Gilson.  Bronnie's husband, Atwood "A.E." Gilson later followed in April of 1993.

Dr. Hammack served as President of the national Oral History Association and as President of the Coal Miners Research Association, was a member of the Faculty Advisory Committee of Kentucky Council on Higher Education and was the only faculty member elected to two consecutive terms on the Board of Regents. Dr. Hammack was the author of a book and several academic articles. He leaves his wife, Charlotte Mills Hammack; a daughter, Amanda Hammack Crain of Marion; a son, James Wallace Hammack III of Murray and one grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Andrew and Rose Johnson. HELEN SULLIVAN JOYNER, 88, of Wynne died Thursday, Aug. 14, at her residence.  Born in Hilleman, she had lived in Crawfordsville and moved to Wynne 15 years ago. She was a member of Wynne First United Methodist Church and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years before working for the school system for 10 years. She retired 15 years ago.  Survivors include one son, William "Bill" Sayles Joyner Jr. of Marion; two daughters, Mona Dallas of Wynne and Pamela Harper of Redlands, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Barbara Burks of Mercer, Tenn.; two sisters, Jackie Morin of Donaldson and Nancy Bray of Pine Bluff; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Sayles Joyner; her parents, Ira Drury Sullivan and Mary Lorena Chadwick Sullivan. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Wynne First United Methodist Church, with Fred Strasser and the Rev. Bill Eason officiating. Burial will follow in Crittenden Memorial Park at Marion under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of Wynne. Active pallbearers will be William "Trey" Joyner III, Jerry Dallas, Kelly Dallas, David Dallas, Jeff Joyner and Tom Burks Sr.  Honorary pallbearers include Tim Burks, Tom Burks Jr., B.J. Burks and Phillip Burks.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Independent Living Services, P.O. Box 1990, 615 Independence, Conway or First United Methodist Church of Wynne.
