CLIFF KAIN SR. of West Memphis died Friday at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis. Services were at 10 a.m. today at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. Mr. Kain, 68, retired foreman for St. Francis Levee District, was a member of Rosewood Methodist Church. He was past president of the West Memphis Jaycees, past JCI State Senator, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Order of Eagles. He was the widower of Marion Josephine Kain and leaves one daughter, Susan Weaver of West Memphis; one son, Cliff "Bud" Kain Jr. of Jonesboro; one sister, Dorothy Sims of Lake City; one brother, Shirley Kain of Glen Burnie, Md.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

CLIFF “BUD” KAIN JR., 45, of Jonesboro died Monday, Feb. 9, at St. Bernard's Medical Center. Born in Memphis, he was a resident of the Jonesboro Human Development Center and was a Baptist. Survivors include a sister, Susan Weaver of West Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cliff Kain Sr. and Marion Nevans Kain. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Emerson Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro. Burial will follow in Crittenden Memorial Park at Marion. The widow of Dolton Kelley, she leaves three daughters, Shirley Chrestman, Patsy Foster and Carol Barlow, all of Marion; four sons, Jay Kelley of Benton, Jim Kelley of Southaven, Miss., and Morris Kelley and Gary Kelley, both of Marion; three sisters, Inez Lowery of Trumann, Lois Petit of Kosciusko, Miss., and Katheryn McCoy of Michigan; two brothers, Junior Berry of Black Oak and Bill Berry of Newbern, Tenn., and 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. JOSEPH F. KENNEDY was the husband of Katherine Walls Kennedy.  He had one daughter, Erma Kennedy Bailey, and a foster daughter, Linda Youngblood. Joseph Kennedy lived in West Memphis and was a cook on a river barge.  He drowned when Hurricane Betsy hit the New Orleans area in 1965.  He is buried in Section 2 along with his wife, Katherine Bell Kennedy, who died in 1984.

MRS. MILDRED GAY WATSON KINDREX, age 89, of Groesbeck, Texas, died Sunday at the Limestone Medical Center in Texas. She had been in the hospital for the past two days. Mrs. Kindrex was born September 30, 1913, in Beebe, Arkansas, and was the daughter of Henry Luther Watson and Daisy Estelle Campbell Watson. She lived in St. Francis and Prairie Counties most of her life. She had worked as a Dietitian for the Elementary Schools in Forrest City, as a Seamstress for the Sewing Company in Forrest City, and at the Vending Company in Forrest City. She had served as a Foster Grandparent for the Mexia State School in Mexia, Texas, and was a Baptist.  Mrs. Kindrex married Lindsay 'Penn' Penick Kindrex on October 5, 1929, and he preceded her in death on August 14, 1981. She is survived by six daughters, Barbara Davis of Groesbeck, Texas, Clara Hood of Bryant, Arkansas, Lorine Mason of Dothan, Alabama, Joneth 'Joni' Hilton of Grantsburg, Illinois, Linda Gilmore of Allen, Oklahoma, and Jannie Jones of Jasper, Texas, one brother, Johnny Watson of Rochelle, Illinois, two sisters, Joyce Colbert of Elkton, Florida, and Earlene Johnson of Rochelle, Illinois, one step-daughter, Gladys Gilsdorf of Florida, twenty-nine grandchildren, forty-six great-grandchildren, eighteen great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Three children preceded her in death, Ruby Puckett, Henry Kindrex and Tillman Kindrex. She had nine brothers and sisters who preceded her in death, Bertha Smith, Ozie Cavaness, Vida Watson, Modean Harris, Lois Crouch, Bessie Nell Finney, Faye Burton, Leroy Watson, and J. W. Watson. She had two step-sons, Delbert Kindrex and Eligah Kindrex who preceded her in death, and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who also preceded her in death. Services for Mrs. Kindrex will be held at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 1:00 p.m., Thursday with burial in Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery in West Memphis. Visitation will be Wednesday evening 6:00 till 8:00 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home with Stevens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was a retired customer representative for Williamette Industries and was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5225 of Marion and West Memphis. She was of the Baptist belief. Survivors include two sons, Wendell Lamar King of Memphis and Carroll Edward King of Collierville, Tenn.; two daughters, Karen Hardin and Robin Swiatkowski, both of Marion; two sisters, Betty Sitz of Jonesboro and Myrtle Downing of Weiner; one brother, Earl Walker of Weiner; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vera Gosney and Edward Walker, one sister and one brother. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis. OSCAR J. O. J. LANGLEY – Oscar Joshua Langley was the son of John Langley and Zellar Culvar. He was married to Julia Belle Nichols and they had five children: Betty Marcelle Langley, Jo Ann Langley, Oscar James Langley, Alan Jay Langley and John Braxton Langley. John Langley and Zellar Culvar (daughter of William and Olga Culver) had 2 children … Oscar Joshua Langley, and a daughter possibly known as Bessie Bethania Langley who died when just 22 mos old. John Langley’s parents were Noah Jim Langley and Fannie Moore. Noah Jim Langleys parents were Lock Langley and Lucinda Sanders.  John Langley was born 1887 and died Jan 15, 1948 Monroe County, AR. He is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Moro, Lee County, AR.

Former Rebel Golf Great Dr. Cary Middlecoff Passes Away Tuesday

Middlecoff was a 1939 All-American and a two-time U.S. Open champion.

CARY MIDDLECOFF, a two-time U.S. Open champion and winner of the 1955 Masters, died Tuesday of heart failure. He was 77. A former dentist, Middlecoff won 40 professional golf tournaments and is tied for seventh on the PGA's career victory list. When back surgery forced Middlecoff to retire from competitive golf in 1963, he had about $290,000 in career earnings and was among the sport's leading career money winners. "Now they make that much in a week," Middlecoff once told reporters. He won the U.S. Open in 1949 and 1956. "He's the greatest player we've ever had and his record bears that out," Dick Horton, executive director of the Tennessee Golf Association, told The Commercial Appeal of Memphis. "In these modern times with so much parity, I don't think anybody could ever equal the record he had."  Middlecoff considered his 1956 U.S. Open title at Rochester, N.Y., as "probably my greatest accomplishment in golf." But he had no greater appreciation for a site than Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters, where he also was a two-time runner-up. "I still love the place," Middlecoff said in 1994. "I dearly loved playing there."  Middlecoff had been in poor health for several years. A fall at his home in 1993 resulted in a severe head injury. He had not played golf, even casually, since the early 1990s. After more than 15 years as a touring pro and another 10 years as a television commentator, Middlecoff preferred privacy.  "Even if I could play real well now, I wouldn't play the Senior (PGA) Tour," he said in 1994. "I'm just traveled out."  "He was a long, straight driver and long-iron player and a great putter," recalled Tommy Bolt, 82, who played on the tour with Middlecoff. Born in Halls, Middlecoff attended high school at Memphis Central and Christian Brothers and was an all-America golfer at the University of Mississippi. Inducted in 1992, Middlecoff is a charter member of the Tennessee Golf Hall of Fame. He won the Tennessee Amateur four straight years, starting in 1940. On the PGA Tour, he was the leading money winner for the decade of the 1950s. He won the Vardon Trophy in 1956 for the lowest average score on tour. In 1986 he was inducted into the PGA World Golf Hall of Fame. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Ark. Middlecoff, who died at Allen Morgan Health Center, leaves no immediate survivors.

FLOYD NAYLOR, the son of the late Harmon and Willie Young Naylor, was born in Finger, Tenn., on July 28, 1916, and died at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter on Sunday, June 13, 2004, at the age of 87. He was first married to Kathrine Clydell Brock in 1939. She preceded him in death. He was then married to Lorraine Hardin in 1981. NETTIE MANCHESTER NICHOLSON of Marion died Saturday at her home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roller-Citizens Chapel with burial following in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. Mrs. Nicholson, 86, a retired grocery store clerk, was a member of Crawfordsville Baptist Church. The widow of Nick Nicholson, she leaves a brother, George Douglas Manchester of Earle. The family requests that memorials be sent to Earle Baptist Church.

ORVILLE NIX was born 27 February 1922 in Ripley, Mississippi, the fourth child of Charles and Evie Childers Nix. He grew up with one sister, Valerie, and four brothers, Leslie, Shannon, Sammy and Ralph. He and his family moved to Arkansas when he was a small child and he attended the Parkin High School. Orville was inducted into the Navy 7 September 1942 and took his boot training at Great Lakes, Illinois. He was trained as an assembly and repairman and served 16 months in the South Pacific. He was the Store Keeper, as a part of a Supply Depot on Guam. Orville was discharged 10 December 1945 at Millington, Tennessee. Orville married Pauline Cook and they were the parents of three sons: Jerry, Barry and Dennis. After his military service, he was employed as a Lineman with Arkansas Power and Light Company. His hobbies were fishing and square dancing. Orville Nix died 10 July 1995 and was buried in Crittenden Memorial Cemetery, Marion, Arkansas

SHANNON CHARLES NIX, 84, of Wynne died Wednesday, March 16, at CrossRidge Community Hospital. Born in Ripley, Miss., he served in the Navy during World War II and was retired after 25 years in the Soil Conservation Service. He served as the Cross County surveyor for 25 years. He was a sponsor of the Crowley Ridge Girl Scouts Council, a sponsor of the Arkansas Officials Association for 28 years and a former coach for American Legion and Pony League baseball programs. He was a Member of a Veterans of Foreign Wars post and attended Wynne Church of Christ.  Survivors include his wife, Jerri V. Nix of the home; three daughters, Rosalind Cothran of West Memphis, Candice Minnich of Little Rock and Dee Whalen of Sherwood; a stepdaughter, Juanita Vickers Hilliard of New Mexico; a brother, Sammy Nix of Hot Springs; six grandchildren, Mary Margaret Cothran, Shannon Carroll, Laura Beth Minnich, Parke Minnich, Will Whalen and Mitchell Whalen; two stepgrandsons, Jay Hilliard and David Hilliard; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret "Sis" Nix; his parents, Charles Franklin and Evie Childers Nix; two brothers; and one sister. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Church of Christ in Wynne, with Fred Strasser officiating. Burial will follow in Crittenden Memorial Park under the direction of Kernodle Funeral home of Wynne. TOMMY LEE NORRIS of Proctor died Wednesday at his home. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at Roller-Citizens Funeral Chapel in West Memphis. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. Mr. Norris, 46, a farmer, was a Baptist. He leaves a daughter, Candace Milner of Burlison, Tenn.; six sisters, Vivian Malone and Rosemary Barrow, both of Proctor, Edna Barrow of Earle, Betty Ann Gardner of New Boston, Texas, Cathy Barrow of Caulfield, Mo. and Carol Norris of Marion, and a brother, Joe Norris of Hughes. The family requests that memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Oden, the widow of Thomas Oden, leaves two daughters, Barbara Ann Cockrill of West Memphis and Linda Roberts Davis of Hernando; a son, Robert Donald Oden of West Memphis; a sister, Annie Moore of Nesbit, and three grandchildren. IRMA GREER O'NEAL, (Mother of Marie Greer Baker-Ferrell), 94, of Earle, died January 9, 2005 at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis. She was a retired grocery clerk for Daniel's Grocery in Earle. Services were January 10 at the Earle Baptist Church where she was a member, with burial at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. She was the widow of R. C. O'Neal. Besides Marie, she leaves a sister, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Marie Greer, class of '49 first married Charles 'Popeye' Baker, classmate of '52. Sometime after his death, she married James Ferrell, classmate of '50. James and Marie live in Earle.

JAMES CLINTON ORMAN, 85, of Crawfordsville, Ark., farmer, died of cancer Friday at his home. Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis with burial in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Ark. He was a member of Shell Lake Baptist Church. Mr. Orman, the husband of Georgia Pauline Orman, also leaves a daughter, Shirley Arms of Marion; two sons, James Orman of Jackson, Tenn., and Paul Orman of Crawfordsville; a sister, Allie Mae Bright of Vanndale, Ark., three grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Shell Lake Baptist Church.

JOHN TRAVIS ORMAN, 59, of Wynne, formerly of Parkin, died Saturday, Dec. 18, at his residence. Born at Texarkana, he attended school at Parkin. He served in the Air Force for four years and was of the Baptist belief. Survivors include his wife, Linda Hudson Orman; two daughters, Johnna Long and Hooey Orman, both of West Memphis, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Hester and Jewel Gertrude Waits Orman. Funeral services will at 2 p.m. Monday at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of Wynne, with the Rev. Ray Dean Davis officiating. Burial will in Crittenden Memorial Cemetery at Marion. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
