Mrs. Ulrich, a Homemaker, was of the Baptist Faith. She is survived by her companion, William Cotton of Dyess, AR; two daughters, Elaine Holt of Chelford, AR and Wanda Tubville of Lawrenceburg, TN; two sons, Danny Porterfield of Chelford, AR and Paul R. WILLIE MAE UPSHAW, 92, of Turrell, Ark., retired teacher and librarian from Turrell School System after 41 years, died Monday at Lawrence Hall Nursing Home in Walnut Ridge, Ark. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis with burial in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. She was a member of Turrell First Methodist Church, former Turrell postmaster and former petroleum distributor. Mrs. Upshaw was the widow of Royce Upshaw.

WILLIE MAE UPSHAW, 92, of Turrell died Monday, May 5, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Home in Walnut Ridge. She had worked as a teacher and librarian at Turrell, as acting postmaster in Turrell and as a petroleum distributor in Turrell. She was a member of Turrell First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Royce Upshaw, and her parents. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis, with Jimmy Dale Thesher officiating. Burial will follow in Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include two daughters, Chloe Hoppe and Piper Hoppe, both of Lebanon, Tenn., and an uncle and aunt who raised her, Larry and Debbie Morris of Marion. Graveside services were held Thursday in Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery at Marion, with the Rev. Tom Buchanan officiating. Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola was in charge of arrangements.

DOROTHY A. WALKER, 72, Independence, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit. Mrs. Walker was born Sept. 15, 1928, in Caney, Okla. She married Bearnard Walker on June 3, 1946. She worked as a nurse’s assistant at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., for many years. She was a member of the Grain Valley Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bearnard Walker, on Sept. 23, 1976. Her survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Voyles, Nashville, Tenn., and Penny Sparks, Independence; two sons, Bernard Walker Jr., Pryor, Okla., and Jeffrey Walker, Independence; three sisters, Betty Tuell and Chris Clark, both of Memphis, and Elwanda Tatum, Heber Springs, Ark.; one brother, Ted Umber, Flint, Mich.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. Burial will be in Crittenden Memorial Park, Marion, Ark. EWELL WILLIAM "BO" WESTMORELAND was born 8 March 1919 in Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, the son of Andrew M. and Mary A. Patterson Westmoreland. There was four other children in his family: Woodrow, Hessell, Mildred and Orlean. Bo attended school at Parkin, Arkansas and worked as a farmer . Bo was inducted into the Army 22 January 1944 at Camp Robinson, Arkansas and was trained as a rifleman. On 3 November 1944, he left for Europe where he spent the next ten months. He participated in the Adrennes, Central Europe and Rhineland Campaigns. He was discharged 6 January 1946 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri having earned three Bronze Stars for the Ardennes, Central Europe and Rhineland Campaigns, the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign with two Overseas Bars and the World War II Victory Ribbon.  Bo married Dorothy Cothran and their children are Harold, Bobby, Donna and Wanda. He was employed as a salesman. Bo's daughter, Wanda, remarks, "My dad kept a diary from 29 October 1944 to 29 May 1945. The book came from the Post Exchange at Camp Shanks. I have this diary, My dad never spoke of this war to me except of places he went I read it when I feel sorry for myself because a movie couldn't cover this about a man who loved his God, his family and the men he served with. The man in this diary, I loved very much, but this is a side of him I didn't know I have a son that served in the Gulf War (Bo's only grandson). I know he would not have wanted this or any more wars. All of us should be very proud of these men and women." Ewell William Westmoreland died 2 March 1981 and was buried in Crittenden Memorial Park, Marion, Arkansas.

CAROLYN ANN WOOD, 45, of Kansas City, Kan., hotel manager, died Sunday at Kansas Medical Center University in Kansas City. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis with burial in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. She was a Baptist. She leaves a daughter, Stephanie Proffitt of Kansas City; two sons, Timothy Telles of Horn Lake and Jayson Telles of Walls; her mother, Earline Wood of Osawatomie, Kan.; a sister, Connie Wood of West Memphis; three brothers, Danny Wood of Olathe, Kan., and Ronnie Wood and Michael Wood, both of Osawatomie, and four grandchildren.

JAMES R. WOOD, 75, father of Joel G. Wood III (class of ’69), and Ava Wood Edwards (class of ’72), a retired farmer of Parkin died May 1, 2000 of heart failure at Cross Ridge Hospital in Wynne.  Mr. Wood was a former Mayor of Parkin, Shriner, and a 32nd Degree Mason.  Services were May 2nd at the Parkin First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, and burial at Crittenden Memorial. Joel lives in Germantown, and Ava lives in Tchula, MS. Mr. Wood also leaves two sisters, two brothers and four grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanine Wood of Marianna; two sons, Aaron W. Wood of Jonesboro and Chad A. Wood of Hernando, Miss.; his parents, Wayne and Doris Wood of Jonesboro; a sister, Sharon Gregory of Edmond, Okla.; a brother, Chris Wood of Jonesboro; and three grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Marianna, with the Rev. Steve Walter officiating. Burial will follow in Crittenden Memorial Park at Marion. Mr. Woods, 54, was owner and operator of Woods Construction Co., a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, the Design and Review Board of West Memphis and past director of the West Memphis Boys Club. He leaves his wife, Dale Woods; a daughter, Dawne Elizabeth Woods of West Memphis; a son, Denton Edward Woods of West Memphis and two brothers, Darris Woods and Dennis Woods, both of Kingsport, Tenn. The family requests that memorials be sent to Holy Cross Episcopal Church.

JOHN D. WOOTEN was born 5 August 1918 at Parkin, Arkansas.  He worked as a farm hand after he completed school. He entered the Army 13 June 1941 at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. John qualified for the Combat Infantryman's Badge.  After basic training, he was assigned to Company A, 63rd Infantry and sailed for the Asiatic Pacific Theater 21 July 1943, arriving there 9 July 1943. As a Squad Leader, John participated in the New Guinea and Luzon Campaigns.  During the invasion of Luzon 10 April 1945, he was wounded.  He received the American Theater Ribbon; the American Defense Ribbon; the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon; the Philippines Liberation Medal; the Good Conduct Medal; the Victory Medal and the Purple Heart. John returned to the States 13 November 1945 and was discharged 17 November 1945 at Fort Bliss, Texas. John D. Wooten died 25 March .982 and was buried in Crittenden Memorial Cemetery, Marion Arkansas.  The above information was taken from his discharge filed in the Cross County Courthouse and the Cross County Cemetery Records, page 131.  Any information about his family, would be appreciated by the Cross County Veterans Memorial Committee.

ARVIL DAVID WRIGHT of Marion departed from this life on January 13, 2007 at the age of 60, at his residence. Mr. Wright worked in the maintenance for Best Western Hotel in Marion, Arkansas. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and was the Chaplain for the Faith Truck Stop Ministry. Survivors include his wife, Jettie Wright of the home; his adopted parents, Roscoe and Mary White of Searcy; two daughters, Deborah Kelly of Marion and Darlene Fenster of Oakland, Tennessee; one son, John Wright of Marion; two sisters, Linda Canfield of Searcy and Brenda Moreland of Fort Smith; one brother, Larry White of Conway; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 16 at the Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis. Interment followed in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Memorials may be sent to Faith Truck Stop Ministry or Cornerstone Baptist Church.
