Ivy Chandler married Sarah A. Griggs in Lauderdale County on 10-Apr-1844.  Four of the older Chandler children were obviously from a previous marriage.  The three Griggs children appear to be those of Sarah Ann Griggs Chandler, from a previous marriage. The two younger Chandler children appear to be those of Ivy and Sarah Ann Chandler. The three Lunsford children belong to William and Mariah.  The last two individuals appear to be boarders.

*In 1840, Ivy Chandler was living in Hardeman County, page 287A. (As was Aris and Ephraim Lunsford) Ivy Chandler was between the age of 20-30, engaged in agriculture, with a female in the household between 20-30. He had 1 male 5-10, and 1 male under 5. Also in the household was 1 female 5-10 and 2 females under 5.

*Note: The 1850 census of Lauderdale County shows an Arthur Totty, age 92, living in Civil District No. 3, along with his wife Rebecca, age 63, and an 11 year old female named Melinda Nevils. All three were born in Virginia. On 20-Mar-1855, Arthur Totty married Mary C. Lunsford in Lauderdale County. It is not known if this is the same Arthur Totty, or the age of Mary C. Lunsford. Could this be the same Mary C. Nixon who married Thomas Lunsford in Hardeman County, Oct. 1847?

** The 1840 census of Lauderdale County shows the household of Arthur Totty, page 3, with one male between 60 and 70, and one female between 50 and 60. The age of Arthur Totty in 1850 could possibly be 72, but appears to read 92.

First Theory: On the 1860 Census of Lauderdale County, 6th Civil District - J. W. Norris and Cordelia Norris are living next door to William Ryan and family. Both are age 22, born in Tennessee. This would be the correct age for Jane Lunsford, daughter of William and Mariah Lunsford.

Second Theory: Another possibility - - - On 12-Sep-1852, William Lunsford married Cordelia J. Osteen. On 24-Mar-1857, J. W. Norris married A.N.C. Jane Lunsford. The A. N. C. Jane Lunsford who married J. W. Norris could have been the same wife (widow?) of William Lunsford.  If so, this would put her at about age 14 when she married William Lunsford and age 19 when she married J. W. Norris. In 1850, Erinaranth (?) C. J. Osteen, age 13, was living in the household with Hardy and Elizabeth Lunsford Osteen. This could be Hardy's younger sister, and would be of the age to be the same Cordelia Jane Osteen who married William Lunsford. If this is the case, it appears that William Lunsford died at an early age.

Based on Research, the second theory has been proven.

Page 275B, residence 388:
Osteen, Hardy R. 26 M Farmer AL
Elizabeth 23 F NC
Wm Carroll 2 M TN
James J 1 M TN
Mary 59 F NC
Wm R. 15 M TN
Erinaranth C J 13 F TN

Mary appears to be the mother of Hardy, Wm R. and Erinaranth, his siblings.

---

William R. Osteen, likely brother of Hardy, married Celia A. Lunsford on 11-Aug-1852. Celia A. Lunsford was the daughter of Henry and Catherine Lunsford of Dyer County, older brother of William Lunsford.

Joseph L. Osteen married Amanda Lunsford on 26-Jul-1855. Based on research, Sophronia Osteen, born 1854, who married Jacob Green Keltner, is the child of Joseph L. and Amanda Lunsford Osteen. The marriage record for Joseph and Amanda lists the groom as J. L. Osteen.  The book, "Keltner Family", shows the father of Sophronia Osteen to be Joseph Osteen.  No further record is found on "Joseph Osteen" in Lauderdale County. There appears to be possibility that this was actually J. J. Osteen, older brother of Hardy Osteen, who married first Malinda Bowman, then Priscilla Keltner.

Prescilla Keltner was the mother of Jacob Green Keltner, and the mother-in-law of Sophronia Osteen Keltner.

In the 1870 Lauderdale Co. Census
On page 585A, District 6
Singleton, William, Age 68 (Link to Singleton Genealogy)
Singleton, Cordelia, Age 30 (born abt 1840)
Richardson, George, Age 12
Osteen, Mary, Age 78
Acuff, James, Age 12

Based on the 1870 Census, Cordelia Singleton previously married J. W. Norris, previously married William Lunsford. With 78 year old Mary Osteen living in this household, I feel that this proves that the wife of William Lunsford was Cordelia Jane Osteen, sister of Hardy R. Osteen.

+ 8 M    vii. Stephen T. LUNSFORD was born in 1835 in most likely Hardeman County, Tennessee and died between 29 Jun 1880 And 11 Oct 1881 in most likely Dyer County, Tennessee.
