A. R. LUNSFORD

DIED SUNDAY AFTERNOON

A. R. Lunsford died at his home in this city Sunday afternoon at 3:45 o'clock following an illness of pneumonia and a complications of maladies incident to old age from which he had been suffering for several months.  While his death came not unexpectedly to the family and host of friends, who for so many weeks have feared that the end would come at any time, nevertheless news of his death spread rapidly casting a shadow of sorrow over the entire community.

Squire Lunsford was one of the best and most favorably known citizens of Craighead County, having resided here for some fifty years.  He was 87 [*note] years old and a model type of a Christine gentleman, having a strict adherent to the fine old Presbyterian doctrines.  In his death the entire community sustained a great loss.  Old and young sought the counsel of Mr. Lunsford and he never tired of rendering his service.  He served the people well as Justice of the Peace and his administration of dealing justice was highly satisfactory.

The deceased is survived by his second wife, three sons, John and J. R. Lunsford of Monette and Dr. Jason Lunsford of Etowah, and three daughters, Mesdames Maggie Haynes and M. A. Usery [Ussery] of Monette and Sarah Markin (Markham) of Nettleton.

The funeral was conducted ___day morning at the Christine Church by Rev. T. N. Threl____ of Heber Springs.  The large crowd which attended the service attested the popularity of the deceased.  Burial at Macey Cemetery.

Note* Aris Riley Lunsford was born January 23, 1844 in Lauderdale County, Tennessee to William Lunsford and Mariah Norris Lunsford.

He was age 77 at the time of his death in 1921.
