 - -  Mrs. J. G. Keltner Dead - -

Mrs. Sophronia Keltner, widow of the late Green Keltner, died of typhoid fever at Coop's boarding house near Gibson Wells Monday.  Her remains were brought home and laid to rest at New Hope Tuesday afternoon.  Mrs. Keltner was 61 years of age and a splendid woman.  She professed religion very young and joined the Methodist church at New Hope, where her membership remained all her life....She was the mother of twelve children, seven of whom survive, all being heads of families.

It was while on a visit to one of her daughters near Gibson Wells that she was

taken ill, the day after arriving there. Her children, Mrs. Alice Thompson of Curve; Mrs. Lillie Weaver, Mrs. Irene Grammer, and Dr. T. Bun Keltner of Arp; Mrs. Elnora Keltner of Dyersburg; Mrs. Viola Austin of Alamo, and Mrs. Elvie Morris of Ashport were by her bed constantly....Mrs. Keltner had been a widow for six years.  She had many friends at the Wells, where she had been spending

summers for several years.

[Tombstone at New Hope Cemetery reads date of birth as April 9, 1854.  Based on the 1860 and 1870 census of Lauderdale County, and the marriage record of her parents, she was born in 1856.]
