1880 census he lists his birth place as Canada. We believe he drove mules during the Civil War. There is a family story of him being at Lookout Mountain during the war and how they once ran away with him down the mountain. He may have served as a civilian as efforts to get his service records were unsuccessful.
He is buried in Highland View Cemetery, Cleveland with his wife.
In the 1880 Cleveland city directory his residence is given as 26 Blossom Street. Death record lists him as living at 2266 E 79Th .
My cousin Richard Heiser did genealogy on this family and says that the name may be spelled Clazie, Clazey, Clasie, Classey, Clacy, Claysey, Cleazy, Clizzee and even Glassie. Richard thinks that the family was illiterate and thus the name could be spelled any way. Further he has found the name in Berwickshire in outhern Scotland. Richard has collected Civil War records the includes Report of Persons and Articles employed and hired at Chattanooga, Tenn. These list George A Clezie as a Joiner employed to repair steamboats and barges and putting up buildings. The entries start Aug. 22, 1864 and go through Feb. 1865.
On his death certificate he is buried in Highland Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio. At time of death he lived at 2266 East 79th St. in Cleveland.

Gertrude lost her hearing at age 19 and was completely deaf the rest of her life. She read lips very well and her 'handicap' was but a small limitation in her life. Her son, Elmer, recalls her teelling about going to a doctor who operated upon her ears and her going home from his office with heavy bleeding.
Before her marriage she worked as a seamstress in Cleveland for the Wagner Manufacturing Co. They were at 1207-1211 Euclid Ave. in Cleveland in the 1903 City Directory. They describe themselves as; "Dealers in Canvas, all widths and weights, awnings, frames of every description. Waterproof horse and wagon covers, canopies and tents for rent."
She is buried in the cemetary in the center of North Royalton, Oh. Parents: George Alexander CLEZIE and Margarette MAGERTH.
